Arc flash breaker failure autopsy
Added 2025-01-09 19:05:00 +0000 UTCA properly obliterated circuit breaker that gave someone a burn when it failed in an industrial environment.
My apologies to those who don't like the auto dubbed speech when it is applied by default. If the video is viewed on YouTube you can manually select your preferred language.
I'm giving it a test to see if it makes my videos available to non-English speaking countries. (Especially for those who speak Spanish and Urdu.)

My son does conference media and the subcontract company promised subtitles but what they delivered was only 90% there. It's a royal PITA to get right ... but so important.

2025-01-11 20:21:34 +0000 UTCI just watched a technical video that had been machine translated German to English. There were a few incorrect words there too but it was mostly understandable. Machine translation has come a long way! Like all audio dubbed videos though, the experience is somewhat jarring, and the AI voice doesn't help.

2025-01-10 15:54:20 +0000 UTCCould be, but I am not sure they would watch them at all. Clive, your original videos have lots of entertainment value, the dubbed ones don't. By the way, "Leitungsschutzschalter" is the correct technical term for these circuit breakers, but most people here would just call them "Sicherung" (fuse) or "Sicherungsautomat" (automatic fuse). Not sure the general German population would even know what a "Leitungsschutzschalter" is.

2025-01-10 08:19:11 +0000 UTCBut it did not get all the terms right: Sometimes, "Leistungsschalter" (high-power switch) for "breaker". The correct term would be "Leitungsschutzschalter". Or "bio-metal" instead of "bimetal". The biggest problem is that the German version is absolutely no fun to watch, boring and dull at best, even confusing and wrong at some points.

2025-01-10 08:03:25 +0000 UTCFor me as a native German speaker, there were some problems. The translations got some techincal terms right, like "Kriechstrom" for "tracking", impressive. But it alters the meaning at some points. For example, at 1:19 the translation says that the resistance keeps increasing over time, so the complete opposite of what is happening and what Clive mentioned.

2025-01-10 07:17:17 +0000 UTCMy late stepfather worked as industrial electrician. He told of a log that was kept in each panel when a breaker was reset. This allowed tracking (no pun intended) between different personnel/shifts of problematic circuit and/or breaker. If a breaker was reset “some number” of times (ten?), it was preventatively replaced. This avoided becoming slowly damaged by successive arcing internally. Don’t know if this would avoid cascade failure described here or not.
