see the issue about Sugar is, her fruit power makes it to if she touches you at all you turn into a toy. Fighting her especially close range is just too risky, cause of she managed to even tug at your arm or leg, you're done. It HAD to be ussop, and she HAD to be defeated unconventionally, unless one of the powerhouses like Law or Zoro delt with her from a range, Ussop is really the only strawhat that could do anything Z(Nami could if she were here though).

Everyone always says the worst things about Usopp, calling him names but tend to forget he's the personification of bravery. We idealize this word, thinking that in order to be brave you have to do things without showing any sign of weakness but to actually be brave means you must feel fear and challenge yourself. He's just a human being amongst these strong superheros with special ablities and despite that he always seems to get the job done and break off his fears. Oda-sensei really encompasses all facets of the human being in this masterpiece...SO GO USOLANDOOO!!!!!!

Usopp was acting out of line for sure but after Robin got turned into a toy, its pretty much like if enies lobby didnt happen for him, so that can possibly mean that the whole Sogeking arc and Sanji telling Usopp to do what he can that the others cant also didnt happen. I know its a stretch and it doesnt excuse him, and honestly the Toei pacing made it even worse but there is *some* logic for him choosing to run away. What i still cant forgive tho is Oda just not having Usopp snipe the tabasco ball into Sugar's mouth after the Tontatas failed the first time. Oda rarely misses but here the outcome of the fight really feels forced.

Usopp’s dream to be the bravest warrior of the sea and he gets to write his story everyday with these adventures. The moment he left Syrup village his dream was already 90% achieved. He just doing his thang being a guy with his slingshot riding for his best friends. Sogeking doesn’t miss his mark!

Not gonna lie, I was annoyed with Usopp in this moment but not to the point of hating him. Gotta remember that Usopps character is not about how often he runs away, but instead how often he turns right back around despite his fear "Do it, and if you're scared, do it with fear, but do it" Also let's not forget Robin was erased from his memory so everything related to Sogeking was also probably erased since Robin is the reason sogeking even exists in the first place and the Anime really dragged this moment too. Can't hate Usopp when he's literally just a guy with a slingshot in a world full of monsters
