I feel like the only one that could stand to Akainu is Whitebeard and Jimbei. I feel like this is why Oda handicaps us by having Jozu frozen and Marco handcuffed. Anyone else would've just been clapped. And also, WB is all of their pops. Akainu's words probably got them boiling too. As someone who didn't care about this series most his childhood, I already knew this death was coming and rightfully made fun of it. However every moment that we witness luffy get through and the entire event that was the war makes it feel like there's a chance that Ace can actually survive this. And then Oda goes and does this. You feel betrayed, angry, confused, sad among other things. Not even to glaze? Narrative aside, to illicit such a response is really hard. It feels like hope was ripped out of your hands, much like how this moment felt for every character involved. Oda setting this unnatural precedent that characters can survive no matter what works so well in this moment because it feels like this could be one of them, but much like it is a wake up call for Luffy, it is one for us! Oda CAN strip anyone away at any second as long as it serves to evolve another character/push along the narrative. And like others have pointed out including myself; Shit's been too sweet for too long for Monkey D. Luffy. He needs to get stronger.

Every reason as to why what happened happened was laid out right infront of us from the reason Ace left out, the reason he got caught, and the reason for his departure. Another thing I hardly see anyone bring up is the contrast between Luffy and Ace's upbringings. Luffy was taught very clearly by Shanks what something like this gets you, as we see the consequence Luffy earns from doing so. Someone who hates themselves as much as Ace only has one saving grace and that's the man who gave him worth, so him more than anyone would perish for such a "stupid" reason. Fire reactions nonetheless, looking forward to the next set!

He even stood up for Hachi and broke the promise he made to him as well as risked everyone's lives for it. When Ace does the same thing and loses the fight you get angry? Even throwing dirt on Oda's name is crazy and mad disrespectful. This story isn't all rainbows and sunshine, it's meant to piss fans off and also get them feel certain way, but honestly, I'm not with you guys with this one. Otherwise good reaction and it cut deep for everyone and so did for you. Still going to stay as member, it's really rare for me to differ from your opinions and point of views, you make the show hype asl and only peak is coming for 700 eps straight so I want to tune in.

2025-01-09 07:29:03 +0000 UTCits this lesson he needs to learn thats been a theme for a few arcs now: Luffy needs to get stronger in order to even stand a chance anymore. in order to protect the ones he loves and make good on his dream, he has to level tf up. he's largely been low-mid diffing living legends since the East Blue but thinks New World is gonna be a cake walk as long as he has his determination. but not even in the new world yet, he has his entire crew taken from him. that still wasn't enough. against everyone's advice, he rushes straight into impel down without a second thought, pulls the hail mary of all hail mary's off rizz alone, and is barely living by the time they get to marineford. if we read the writing on the wall, why would we think he's just going to clutch this on sheer luck and willpower? we said it ourselves when we saw the three admirals, warlords, sengoku and navy fleet: we don't belong here. doesnt matter that its Ace, Luffy still must learn this lesson and now he must learn it the hardest way of all. in order to become the king of the pirates and protect his treasure (his friends) he has a long long way to go, and thats just the brutal reality. If Ace of all people, who's had some of the biggest feats so far, is one shotted by Akainu, what does that say about the gap between Luffy and his dream? If Sabaody wasn't the wake up call, this is.
