Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Hey all! Here is the uncut version of my reaction to The Force Awakens. Believe it or not, this might be the movie that I ended up cutting out the MOST stuff I had said. I never want my YouTube edits to be more than an hour long, and because the edit for this one had a much longer intro than normal and a bit of a longer thoughts/recap section, I felt like there was so much I ended up chopping from the movie to get the whole video under an hour. Click here to watch the edited reaction on YouTube with my full thoughts and review at the end. Let me know what you think in the comments below! [Direct link here.]

So tonight was the next step of this SW journey. I remember really enjoying this when it first came out. Watching it a bunch of times after it was available in digital format. Not really being overly concerned with it's obvious rehashing tropes and flaws. It was a fun time and I was just happy that the dialogue and acting wasn't as clunky as some parts of the prequels were. Visually it pushed all the right buttons, and nostalgically it served to obscure the developing issues. There were so many fun and engaging moments that it was just a fun ride. Kylo Ren was an interesting character. My very first impression wasn't too possitive. Oh, we just doing a straight up unimaginative Vader ripoff. Subsequent views, I have grown to really appreciate the complexity of is character in this first movie. As the norm, he stands out against the other dark side users in the films. His imbalance and violent outbursts of untempered rage, are for me, a sublime character choice. I find it easy to except that's the way a force user who relies on their passion, aggression, and hate might act. The punching of his wound to feed his anger and aggression is one of my all time SW moments. It feels like a great expressive visual que that he is battling with his light side leaning. We can agree that it is toxic. Behaviour as an alternative word to masculinity, would be my personal choice. I personally find the growing popularity of that often devisive and occasionally weaponising expression, troublesome. Although, far from as common, destructive behaviour can be exhibited from us all. Male disillusionment amongst many of societies complex, but far from singular issues. I don't find certain oversimplified language all that helpful myself. It's just unfortunate for me that that moment stayed with me towards the end of the film. As much I did enjoy you enjoying all of the many aspects and moments throughout the film.

To be fair, I didn't have as many patrons back then. 😊 This is also on my list to re-edit so that I have the timer!

Also noticed that I didn’t heart this one, meaning I didn’t watch the full length. Looks like I only did the edited version

Only 3 comments on this one? I think it’s time I revisit. Unlike most, I’m hyped for a new Rey movie. Comments to follow.

Haha, that meme is awesome 😂. While I sorta agree with what you said about Rey, I felt her character was still too good too quickly compared to other Jedi characters in the past. They all still need to train to control their powers & learn to fight against their enemies, or they can be tempted to the dark side. I felt like it was a bit too easy for Rey. That being said, I still enjoyed the sequel trilogy even though I don't agree with certain things related to the OTs. 😊

Great point about Rey! I love that. And that meme, oh gosh. Hilarious and terrible all at once. 😂

So two things for you 1st I have always loved the way Rey instinctively understood the thing that Yoda wasted the last of his force energy trying to pound into Luke's stubborn head ... the key Rey to being able to channel her force abilities without ANY knowledge or training was her instinctive ability to CONTROL HER EMOTIONS 2nd Barely minutes after The Force Awakens finished it's very first showing in theaters there was a meme circulating on social media of Rey holding out Anakin's light saber to Luke with Luke saying "there was a hand ... did you bring the hand"
