Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) ✦ YouTube Edit

Hey everyone! Here is the early access for my reaction to The Rise of Skywalker. If you've already watched the uncut reaction, then feel free to skip ahead to my thoughts & review. I definitely didn't ramble as long as I did in The Last Jedi, but still had criticisms to share and things I very much enjoyed.

Here is the direct link to the reaction.

Please enjoy!

Star Trek is not on the list any time soon, but thanks for this list.

Now that you've "completed" the Skywalker Saga, if you have not already gotten into it, you should check out the Star Trek universe so you have a full frame of reference for the Star Trek - Star Wars "wars"🤣 But, if you've never seen any of the Star Trek television series(es), before you jump into the "movies" I would recommend that you check these episodes from Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation Prior to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan • ST TOS Season 1 - Episode 22 : Space Seed (Feb 16th 1967) Prior to Star Trek III: The Voyage Home • ST TOS Season 2 - Episode 10 : Journey to Babel (Nov 17th 1967) Prior to Star Trek: Generations • ST TNG Season 1 - Episodes 1 & 2 : Encounter at Farpoint (Sep 28th & Oct 5th 1987) • ST TNG Season 2 - Episode 1 : The Child (WTF is Whoopi Goldberg doing in a STAR TREK episode/movie🤣) Prior to Star Trek: First Contact • ST TNG Season 3 Episode 26 / Season 4 Episode 1 : The Best of Both Worlds (Jun 18th & Sep 24th 1990) Prior to Star Trek(2009) • ST:TOS-Space Seed • ST II: TWK • ST TNG Season 5 Episodes 7 & 8 : Unification (Nov 4th & Nov 11th 1991) And if you'd like to see Spock's Father Ambassador Sarek later in his career • ST TNG Season 3 - Episode 23 : Sarek (May 14th 1990) And if you didn't recognize her (and why would you?) the actor who always plays Spock's Mom was Jane Wyman who was the former Mrs Ronald Reagan (from 1940 to 1949) before actor Nancy Davis became the permanent Mrs Ronald Reagan (from 1952 to 2004) One of the funniest things Chief Engineer Montgomery (Scotty) Scott ever did • ST TOS Season 1 - Episode 15 : The Trouble With Tribbles (Dec 29th 1967) And one of his most AMAZING engineering hacks • ST TNG Season 6 - Episode 4 : Relics (Oct 12th 1992) And a couple with my all time FAVORITE Star Trek character EVER •ST TOS Season 1 - Episode 6 : Mudd's Women (Oct 13th 1966) • ST TOS Season 2 - Episode 8 : I Mudd (Nov 3rd 1967)

So I have heard you comment so many times throughout your Skywalker Saga journey how good the music was. Here's a couple of my favorite YT videos on the subject This one describes John Williams has redefined the art of motion picture music for generations to come over the last 50+ years https://youtu.be/QY6I_PE3Ad8 This one is a "technical" explanation of the brilliant musical theory, with score and sound in sync, for the genius behind the scores for some of the most memorable and emotionally captivating sounds of Star Wars https://youtu.be/v5ysBKUC4-w

Just to explain how Palpatine was able to return was that when Vader lifted him to throw him down the shaft in the Return of the Jedi, he transferred and connected his soul to Darth Vader's helmet (because Palpatine had it constructed) and the body that Palpatine was in in Rise of Skywalker was decaying because it couldn't hold all of the power of the Sith. That is why Palpatine wanted Rey to kill him (out of anger and hatred) so that he could transfer his soul and the power of the Sith into her. Now if you watch all the episodes with the idea that Palpatine is looking for a force powerful body to transfer his soul and power into...then all the movies will make much much more sense.

I have very little to add that I have not already said before. A few notes though - while I’m sure the backlash against Last Jedi had an impact, I think Carrie Fisher’s passing had equal a hit. We really don’t know how different this movie would have been had Leia been fully involved. No one likes talking about it but all the Star Wars movies made under Disney, save for The Force Awakens, have had behind the scenes production problems: virtually none of the footage shot for Rogue One in the trailer are in the final movie, both of the original directors for Last Jedi (Josh Trank) and Rise of Skywalker (Colin Trevorrow) needed replacement for various reason and Solo’s original director team were fired and about 90% of the movie reshot. Needless to say, it has been a bit of a mess getting the recent Star Wars movies made and not having a unified vision is a problem. Now, having said all that… That I still enjoy all of the new stuff as much as the old means either I’m biased as hell (possible) or it’s all just background noise (also possible). The fact that I can still find joy in picturing a child holding a hairbrush in their hands and making a small humm with their mouths or equal joy in watching anyone’s eyes just shine getting to see what I have cherished for so long is the best of all things. Why I’ve always seen myself as a guide on the path, smiling when someone chooses to walk. No walls, no gates, just a hope that someone comes down the path and I can guide a few steps, then watch them take off on their own. That’s Star Wars to me. And it’s a privilege getting to share it all over again. Now, of course I have just as strong feelings about Batman, as you’ll soon see. And he’s not even my favorite! For my favorite, it’s again a hope that when we’re done in Gotham, there may be another adventure as long as someone is willing to look… up in the sky.

I personally like the Last Jedi the most when it comes to this trilogy but I have Massive problems with it too! For me Episode 7 is a bit boring but still fun. Episode 8 is really mixed message filled and continuity breaking but interesting and different. And episode 9 is Super continuity breaking and irritating for me, with a coat of beautiful visuals on top. I am someone who really loves Finales so Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi are my top 2 SW movies and movies in general. My first SW movie that I got to see in Theaters was the Clone Wars film, and so I am a Prequel kid myself. So I went into this with so many thoughts and intrigued about how Kylo will be as a villain and so much more from episode 8 that just seemingly was ignored by JJ. I love Ian’s acting and lines but I was hoping and expecting when we heard him in a trailer for the film, that Palpatine’s spirit would be trapped in Vader’s mask or as a Cameo in the Death Star 2 Wreckage. But instead Palpatine was alive the entire time with a son and managed to build 10,000 Star Destroyers with Tiny Death Star Canons. And then the entire Galaxy seemingly shows up to help which C-3P0 could probably tell us is HIGHLY improbable that that many ships could be there on either side. And the Sith and Jedi don’t really pass on into the next Jedi or Sith, or they didn’t used too not literally anyway so I really disagree with JJ having Rey and Palpatine act like all the Jedi and Sith’s Souls were in them. This movie retcons things from established Canon books, Comics, Movies, and shows which is annoying and I disagree with but for me they didn’t change the story in a well written or meaningful way with the Retcons either. Rules about the force or technology in the universe that I grew up learning in the Clone Wars and Rebels and episodes 1-6 also just were ignored at some points. For example General Pride says fire Ion Canons and then the Star Destroyers fire GREEN Turbo Lasers. In ALL other SW media Ion blasts are always Blue or Red with blue auras and they are EMP shots. The turbo lasers fired just destroyed ships 🤦🏻‍♂️. Granted I am one of the Star Wars fans who struggles with feeling a need to gatekeep or be a know it all so I definitely am knit picking. I could go on for way too long so I’ll stop. I am glad that you liked the movie though at least a little, no one should have to feel bitter about the movie like me 😅. Thank you for the great reactions and reply’s! And I know you plan to watch Mando and Clone Wars and Book of Boba I think, I definitely definitely recommend Badbatch and Rebels if you like Clone Wars at all and if you need a game to play Fallen Order is incredible! Kenobi is also one that is coming up that would be super relevant!
