The Clone Wars: Dooku Duology [016-017/134] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Thanks for the info! It's interesting that they didn't show the drugging and instead you see that in a comic. Feel like that was a bit of a misstep there.

Hey, Kaiielle! DOOKU CAPTURED: The first season was accompanied by a WEB COMIC prelude to each episode that set the stage for the story. They were all collected into a trade paperback. Even though Anakin's undercover mission to be captured without his lightsaber by Dooku was shown in the comic, the brief prologue using footage from the animated movie is sufficient explanation. The introduction of Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka! You've seen Weequays before manning Jabba's skiffs in "Return of the Jedi". Instead of a parrot, Hondo's pet is a Kowakian monkey-lizard which you've seen in live-action as Jabba's pet in "Return of the Jedi". The design of the Weequay vessel is so odd in that it resembles a quaint, disc-like UFO almost as if the animators just threw up their hands and said, "Screw it, somebody's got to tool around in one of those!" Although Gundarks have been mentioned in "Attack of the Clones" and "The Empire Strikes Back", this is the first time they've been visualized! As they have four arms, there's an Edgar Rice Burroughs quality to their design. The planet Vanqor was the gray, rocky world with the gaseous cave. The planet Florrum was the semi-arid world with the boiling geysers. Notice that Palpatine is no hurry to claim Dooku for the Republic since his apprentice is his Separatist counterpart necessary for continuation of the war! I like how Hondo regales the Jedi with the daring capture of Dooku by his bold men when they're all slumped over the table like slovenly drunks. You didn't seem to see Anakin and Kenobi Force-swap their spiked drinks with their neighbors which is why the guy on either side of them passes out! Anakin's jalopy from Teth, 'The Twilight', makes a return appearance in this episode. THE GUNGAN GENERAL: The only WEB COMIC that is essential is the one between these two episodes. It's entitled "SWITCH" and shows how Anakin and Obi-Wan get drugged despite the viewer witnessing them Force-swap their spiked drinks with those of their tablemates in the last episode. Basically, Hondo's pet Kowakian monkey-lizard sees that they've dodged the drug and tries multiple times to knock them out. The Jedi foil each attempt. Exasperated, he tips a keg of the powdered drug into the ventilator system spreading the sedative throughout the hall and knocking out the entire room! Voila! Three-eyed Senator Kharrus is from a species called Gran. BJ Hughes voiced Jar Jar in this episode rather than Ahmed Best. "Bombad Clankers" is Jar Jar-speech for "formidable technology". I like how the pirate pegs Jar Jar exactly correct: "He's no Representative! He's a plague!" The dream team you never knew you needed: Anakin, Obi-Wan and Dooku! I love the exchange between Obi-Wan and Hondo about reprisals and the respect Hondo affords his former captives. Our heroes make good their getaway in Anakin's jalopy from Teth, "The Twilight".

To this day I'm so confused as how they were drugged when they swapped drinks.

Johnny Wade McFalls JR

The banter is strong in this duology. 😄

"You'll be seeing him throughout" - it's nice not knowing if someone is a one-time character or if they make regular appearances. I know it's not a huge spoiler, but it's still nice not knowing.

kaiielle

Was that a spoiler? Sorry

Please be mindful of commenting expectation spoilers. ☺️

Get used to Hondo (the main pirate), you’ll be seeing him throughout Clone Wars. They are Weequay. First introduced in Return of the Jedi in Jabba’s palace.

Absher

Gotta love Hondo. One of the best non-jedi characters in Star Wars

Andrew Sitek

Love me some Star Wars Pirates! “Weequay” is the species that Honda and the Pirates were in this episode btw. There are non Pirate Weequay obviously too, some in the background of Courisant and Tatoowein especially

Justin

I must have! But now that I think about that scene again, it makes sense.

kaiielle

I think you missed them using the force to swap the drinks with the people they sat next to lol
