Obi-Wan Kenobi - Part V [1x5] ✦ YouTube Edit

Oh boy, it has been a week. 😭 I hope you all are doing well! It is time for my edited reaction to Part V of Obi-Wan Kenobi. I'm so sorry that it took so long to get this out (and also apologize for The Prestige not being out yet). It's been a hard last half of this week.

Here is the direct link to the reaction.

Enjoy! Can't wait to chat with you all about this episode and our predictions for the finale.

Hey, Kaiielle. I appreciate your thoughtful reply and do hope a Qui-Gon or Ahsoka appearance in the finale recontextualizes this entire show which DID start promisingly. Ewan McGregor is giving it all he's got! I've been a Star Wars fan since 1983 and have been through all the ups and downs. You will find that no one is more critical of the franchise than its most ardent devotees because they want to see the legacy honored. Aside from the first episode, this show keeps disappointing me yet I keep pointing out what appeals to me each week. The most perplexing thing is that Disney made a big show of eradicating the Legends comics to replace them with their new Marvel comics. The Obi-Wan comic is set during this period of Kenobi's sojourn on Tatooine with each issue intercutting with flashbacks to his past as a youngling, a Padawan, a Knight, a Master while he deals with present-day threats to his vigil. A character you've yet to meet from another series has a fateful encounter with Kenobi at this time as well. It was believed that was the show we would be getting. A character study that intercut with flashbacks to the past. Think of how much more Hayden we would have gotten! Instead, Kenobi has taken a back seat to a cute tyke and a paper tiger villain whose motivations are muddy at best. Hence, my disappointment. I envy you your hopefulness and pray you are correct. I provided a link in my comment to "The Deserter" episode of "Clone Wars" that will show you some amazing speeder bike footage from New York. My comments to "Grievous Intrigue" and "Lightsaber Lost" also provide some info you might find interesting on the character of Sora Bulq and the film "Stray Dog". Please check them out. "Clone Wars" is Star Wars at its best!

Hi Alex, like I replied to you on YouTube, I hope you enjoy nitpicking. I'm gonna expand on my other reply here. I firmly believe that just because you are able to ask questions about an episode or a movie does not make that a "plot hole" in said episode or movie. An interesting and entertaining story will often have things about it that don't always make logistical sense. I think you can nitpick nearly every single movie that's ever been made the way you are nitpicking this series and this episode specifically. The story is not falling apart for many of us out there. There are many of us who don't think it's lazy or inept. This show IS about Obi-Wan. But it can't feature JUST him, or that would be pretty boring. Hence the heavy featuring of Leia, Reva, Vader, the Grand Inquisitor, and Tala. Do you really want a show where Kenobi just kept watching Luke from far away through binoculars and went to work every single day to cut up meat? Except you would dislike a series like that too because there's no action and excitement. There's no story. Anyway, I'm gonna wish you well on your nitpicking and I'm gonna continue to enjoy this show and the story it's giving us.

Hey, Kaiielle! I replied to your comment on YouTube. I'll repost it here. Lol. All those questions are from this episode alone! I shouldn't have that many questions if the script were tight! If characters don't behave in a rational way that matches their motivations and/or personality, it just ejects you from the story. Reva is under the gun to impress a choke-happy boss so every exit should be covered otherwise her opportunity to murder Vader will be lost. She is doubly-motivated to bring Kenobi in. So, why does she send him into a rebel-controlled cave with two troops he could mop up himself when he has already surrendered before her legion of men offering even to lend a hand against her boss? The answer is sloppy writing. She wouldn't do that. She'd keep him close and use him to distract Vader. That's what we were just told. So, when the opposite happens for no reason, you the viewer are taken out of the tension-filled moment and are left scratching your head. Why was everybody waiting around when a perfectly good shuttle could have airlifted all the refugees before the Empire's arrival? How could Bail Organa be so dumb as to contact an agent he believed compromised? How could a spoiled child fix heavy duty electronics? Why is Reva killing so many Jedi if her beef is really with Vader for killing so many Jedi? If these basic things don't make a lick of sense, then the story falls apart and the tension evaporates. Things happen on this show 'just because'. That's lazy and/or inept. I pointed out the elements I enjoyed but this isn't the show we were sold. This is supposed to be about Obi-Wan. Not Reva. Not Leia. All they have to do is follow the current comics Disney are publishing to tell a story centered completely on Obi-Wan as a compelling character study. Those comics are Disney-published and canonical! They're not Legends material from the great Dark Horse days. They already pulled this stunt on another Star Wars show by reducing the role of the lead and having him make ridiculous choices that defy common sense. Major disappointment. But who knows? The finale might salvage this misbegotten enterprise.

That would be a good order for things, for sure!

You make some great Points Kaiielle! I am 99% sure we will see Obi Wan and Vader fight again, but I don’t know how to get to that Plot Point. Reva almost certainly is Goong to Tatoowein, she met Owen in episode 1. THOUGH, “the children” she might not price together as Anakin’s, because Bail is Lieas father and there are no records of Anakin having children/Padme giving birth. Everyone assumes that Anakin, Padme, and Anakin’s child (because Anakin didn’t know Padme was having Twins) died in Revenge of the Sith. I feel like Vader can’t step foot on Tatoowein (in connection to his kids) that wouldn’t work well. I really hope that maybe we start the episode with Liea getting home safe, but then Ben rushes to Tatoowein where he confronts Reva, they fight, but then team up to leave and set a trap for Vader. And maybe the Grand Inquisitor and Reva get to fight while Obi Wan and Vader do. Then we end with a Qui Gon conversation as a reward to Ben for reconnecting with the Force.

These are all great points! Thanks for sharing. I will say that to your Imperial March comment, that song is heard in both AOTC and ROTS, so it wouldn't feel off to hear it in this series, imo.

kaiielle

I think your predictions make sense. Another fight between Vader and Anakin is inevitable, the ship Kenobi and Leia are on can't jump to hyperspace said Roken so they are gonna get caught. I suspect the Vader and Reva part of the finale will be completely disconnected until the last few minutes. What will be the ultimate fate of Reva is really hard to tell depending if there is a s2, a spin off or nothing after that. I know we all want the Imperial March in this show, but surprisingly it was not created until the empire strikes back so musical continuity would more likely point to the A new hope Vader theme. Not sure if Vader let Reva survived on purpose, like during Order 66 she survived because of her will to get revenge. It is a recurring capacity of users of the Dark Side of the Force in a lot of SW stories. That is how the Grand Inquisitor is still alive, same thing for Anakin after burning to death on Mustafar. Why they did not made sure she was finished ? I think in their mind they don't really care. I hope next week will be easier for you, thanks for the reaction and looking forward to the finale.
