The Clone Wars: The Mortis Trilogy [060-062/134] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Comments

It's kinda nice when things are kept a bit secretive.

kaiielle

The other point is this arc is a real mystery in that the guy who wrote it with George has kept the meaning behind it a secret. Gotta love Filoni tho he's great!

Jam

Right, okay. I've heard about all this before, I just didn't know that's what you were talking about. The whole legends vs. canon thing must be frustrating for a lot of people because what they grew up with now "doesn't count". Honestly I don't even really care if something is "true" or not. It's still good info to know either way, and at the end of the day it's all just fantasy land stories and entertainment for us. Also, Alex's comment at least made it clear he was referencing Legends stuff.

kaiielle

Legends is in reference to the old extended universe that were sorta cannon, but George Lucas said anything in the movies or shows always overruled it. For example if a character died in those books or comics then appeared in say clone wars then the book no longer counted as canon in Star Wars. There were levels to this canon, but George never really acknowledged them officially. When disney bought Star Wars they realized a lot of the old extended universe didn't line up and contradicted each other. They said it was no longer canon and is now referred to as legends. Disney restarted the canon with books, comics, and video games to make one universe. If you ever get into the books or comics and see a legends label then it is no longer canon in the Star Wars universe. While many of those stories are great and beloved they are no longer recognized. Many fans can't let go of them and still cling to them as true. Others will say in legends to let you know this is not recognized in the canon of Star Wars.

Jam

Can you be more specific so I know exactly what you're referencing?

kaiielle

Ppl will tell you this or that about what this all means and tbh its all bs. Dave Filoni has been very secretive about it and never revealed any meaning behind it or any information about it, with all do respect to some of these other comments they aren't true at least in cannon. Legends info doesn't count anymore.

Jam

Yeah, this one will probably be a top arc for me all the way through to the very end of the series.

kaiielle

Easily the best arc so far in the series. Just wow. The lore in this one. 🔥 Clone Wars is so good, loved every minute of that one!

Absher

The Force lore is so good!

kaiielle

This arc always makes me wish for more of this trio together. I love getting to see the lineage of master and apprentice! Also, I love weird Force lore (and wish there was more of it) so this is a favorite!

juliachristine

Thanks!

kaiielle

So good! Didn't realize that Ahsoka had actually died. I like this outfit of hers too!

kaiielle

Thank you!

Hey, Kaiielle! OVERLORDS: The beginning of the most metaphysical arc of the series which heavily involved George Lucas' input! LIAM NEESON returned to voice Qui-Gon Jinn and PERNILLA AUGUST returned to voice Shmi Skywalker! SAM WITWER, who later voices Darth Maul, voices The Son. Since they respond to a 2,000-year-old Jedi code, it implies that The Father was once a mortal like Anakin who accepted the charge of the previous Father to maintain the balance between the avatars of Light and Dark. I loved Ahsoka's long lekku in the vision of her adult self! THE MOTHER is the subject of a nine-volume book series in LEGENDS entitled "Fate of the Jedi" occurring forty years after "Return of the Jedi" and centering on Grand Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in the wake of an extragalactic invasion by a deadly species known as the YUUZHAN VONG. The New Republic was hard-pressed to defeat this species from beyond the Star Wars galaxy that utilized organic technology to terraform entire worlds with blitzkrieg-like bombardments. The only solution was to form a GALACTIC ALLIANCE with the Imperial Remnants and their Star Destroyer fleets to defeat this common enemy! The newly unified galaxy was just staggering to its feet when ABELOTH escapes her ancient prison. Originally a mortal woman who attended the Father of a 100,000 years ago and his Son and Daughter on a jungle planet where the Children first manifested, she became the fourth member of the family. First she was THE SERVANT and later became THE MOTHER. However, she was mortal and her family was not. Stooped with age, she partook of the energy sources from which the Children had sprung but her frail mortal form was twisted into a perverse monstrosity with deep-set black eyes, tentacled fingers and a hideously huge mouth! Horrified, the then-Father declared her to be ABELOTH, an abomination of bottomless need and anguished loneliness. He fled from her reach with the Children and took shelter in the MORTIS MONOLITH. The Son and Daughter seized the hive-mind of a Force-sensitive species to construct a megastructure known as Centerpoint Station which trapped Abeloth on the Childrens' homeworld surrounded by a ring of artificial black holes! Periodically, she would escape whenever there was a temporal disruption but the Children forced her back. In the wake of the Mortis Encounter with Anakin, there were no beings left to subdue her and, in 44ABY, she escapes enslaving many Force-wielders to her side and creating multiple avatars that infiltrate the nascent Galactic Alliance government. One such avatar even gets elected Chief of State controlling the galaxy! Grand Master Luke hunts her and her avatars across the galaxy until he has no choice but to make a pact with the the greatest Sith Lord of the post-Rebellion era, Darth Krayt, the former Jedi known as A'Sharad Hett! Only together on a psychic battlefield known as the Realm Beyond Shadows, can the two mighty Force-wielders put an end to Abeloth's reign of terror! Exciting stuff! ALTAR OF MORTIS: Very important episode for AHSOKA. She actually dies! Her resurrection through the transference of life energy from The Daughter makes her an avatar of sorts of the Light Side of the Force. In the canon novel "Ahsoka" which occurs after "Revenge of the Sith", she defeats an Inquisitor and purifies his cracked kyber crystals through sheer will. She uses them to power her own lightsabers which thereafter glow pure white. This is a function of the pure Light Side energy that resides within her from the transference. At the end of the "Fate of the Jedi" book series, Luke dispatches his Jedi Knights to search for the Mortis monolith in hopes of recovering the DAGGER OF MORTIS to use against the eternal Abeloth in the future. The death of The Daughter represents the future fall of the Jedi Order which throws the Force out of balance. GHOSTS OF MORTIS: LIAM NEESON again returned to provide the voice of Qui-Gon Jinn! Anakin is shown his tragic future by the Son in one of the series' best moments as he falls to his knees crushed by destiny beneath the shadowy visage of Vader. The deaths of The Son and The Father represent the future assassination of Palpatine by Anakin at the cost of his own life thereby restoring balance to the Force. It would have meant leaving Padme but we now know that Anakin was born to replace The Father. By rejecting his cosmic role, he seals the fate of billions. Yet who couldn't sympathize? It's a big ask! "The time is out of joint! O cursed spite! That ever I was born to set it right!" Was it all just a dream? Lol. Awakening in the cockpit makes you think momentarily that's where the story is going but Filoni plays it straight. I like the twist of time being relative in Mortis so that the entire arc took place in the space of a few moments for everyone outside the monolith. Filoni has commented that there was an additional scene of Anakin interacting with Force-ghosts of legendary ancient Sith from the Expanded Universe named DARTH REVAN and DARTH BANE! Revan was from the Old Republic era who flip-flops between Light and Dark while Bane was from the High Republic era who instituted the Sith Rule of Two. However, Lucas cut it because their appearance contradicted his principle that the Sith could not persist in the Force beyond death as individual consciousness.

Alex Vazquez

"The chains are the easy part...it's what goes on in here that's hard" is a quote to remember. Ahsoka did die and the daughter transferred the light to Ahsoka and now lives in her. Side note: that Ahsoka outfit is one of my favorites, didn't mention it before. I commented on the nightsister trilogy about people using the force in different ways, and this is another example of it. We're so used to just jedi and sith, and Anakin/Obi-wan both mentioned it multiple times in the trilogy. The Son and Father both try to explain to them that their black and white view of the force is so simple but it's all they (and we) have really known to this point. Ahsoka fixing the ship is a nice subtle nod to her learning from Anakin. The master/apprentice relationship is more than just about being a jedi, and you see that in her personality as well, but this is a nice subtle touch. This is definitely a top arc of the show, but there are still more to go that are generally ranked higher, so buckle in

Andrew Sitek

One might ask where is the mother in all this. Answer is simple. 100,000 years earlier Abeltoh, the mother was consumed with the fear of herself dying and losing her family that live much longer than her. She became courrupted with power that gave her the same long life. She was then locked away by her family and others and is contained in a prison. One creaited at the certer of the Maw Cluster. The blackhole cluster was specifically made to contain her and stop her from spreading pure chaos with her mastery of of all sides of the force.

Oh my gosh, so many questions, I am overwhelmed! All really good questions though. The Force in this trilogy was crazy good and so interesting and unlike what we've seen before. And these characters too! Ahh, just such a good trilogy all around.

kaiielle

Mortis is definitely a Weird one! It has SO MANY Implications as to we view the force! Crazy to see Anakin turn to Vader Early for a second, AND to see What Ahsoka could end up like if she follows in Anakin’s footsteps! I do love how Anakin and Ahsoka both are INTENSELY guided by the dark side, BUT are still themselves, like Ahsoka saying that she hating being called Snips I feel is probably some that Actually gets on her nerves and now we know😂. Very interesting ARC. I want to pose some food for thought questions to you, the father disappeared when he died but the Son and Daughter didn’t, what does this mean?🤷‍♂️ Also was the Son alive without the Daughter being alive, long enough to strengthen the Dark side in the Galaxy, or not? What does it mean for Ahsoka to have been “revived” useing the Daighter’s life force? 🤷‍♂️ Will Obi Wan be more Warry of Anakin after seeing him engulfed in the Darkside? Or will he just think that a Similar corruption happened with both Anakin and Ahsoka? 🤷‍♂️ Was Qui- Gon actually Force Ghost Qui-Gon here? Because everyone got a “Vision”, was Anakin’s the only fake vision, or were they all just the Farher, Son, Daighter? 🤷‍♂️ Ok I love how Ahsoka is a mechanic, like all the Jedi seem to have some extra skills, Obi Wan is Charming and and a great Negotiator, he clearly took the Public Speaking and Negotiations class in Jedi School, Anakin is kinda just GIFTED, and Ahsoka is a Mechanic. Though Anakin did build a Pod-racer, so it’s funny that he didn’t help Ahsoka fix the ship. 😅 It’s Interesting how the Chosen One is portrayed in these episodes. Like they ALL know about it, that Anakin is 99% the One, BUT Obi-Wan and Anakin doubt it. Also I BELIEVE, but may be mistaken, that George Lucas was MUCH more Involved with this ARC than any of the other ones. Excited to see you see more of Clone Wars!!! The ARCs are getting Longer and the Plot THICKENS!!!
