Andor: Announcement [1x07] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

This makes sense. Thank you!

kaiielle

Oh, thanks for the info about Ord Mantell, definitely didn't catch that.

kaiielle

I am not going to repeat all the info that has been given to you in the previous comments, just point out something: from conversations between Luthen and Kleya and Luthen and Mon Mothma and the overall way Luthen acts, we know secrecy and keeping in place the deception is extremely important for Luthen. Out of the whole crew on Aldhaani, Vel was the only one who was aware of Luthen, while Luthen recruiting Cassian for the job was seen as an extreme risk, specially because Luthen recruited him personally. Luthen deemed it an acceptable risk and it did pay off, but now that he has done his job, having Andor know Luthen's identity is a loose end. Vel seems to have been working with Luthen for a very long time, they know she's all in for the cause, while Cassian, well, while they know a lot of information about him, they don't really trust him enough, and I think they are right, Cassian at this point in the story is a survivor first, he may not like the Empire, but if it came to it, he'd definately reveal Luthen's identity to anyone in order to save himself. The only reason Andor hasn't revealed anything yet is because he probably doesn't know how valuable Luthen's identity is and also because speaking out would be admitting he himself was involved in Aldhanni. But, ruthless as it is, from a purely strategical point of view, getting rid of Andor makes sense for Luthen. I am totally loving all of this depth of characters and the contrast between Luthen and Mon Mothma, while Mon Mothma is all in in the rebellion, she is much more idealistic, while Luthen is pragmatic to the extreme.

A great episode. The Mention of Ord Mantell by Major Partagaz to one of the Officers was cool, Ord Mantell is where CID and althe Bad Batch have been hanging out. Though these 2 shows are roughly 15 years apart from each other so the Bad Batch PROBABLY aren’t there if I had to guess but 🤷‍♂️lol. Also the Shore trooper that harasses Cassian at the end is played by the Voice actor for Darth Maul in Clone Wars AND Solo. In Solo Ray Park was in the Makup, but Sam Whitwer did the voice. I actually Really Enjoy Dedra, like a lot, also I think that there actually is another Woman in the ISB conference room but she is always blurry and never speaks. But MON MOTHA IS FABULOUS. Like ALL of here outfits are on point, and her saying that she LEARNED from watching Plapatein was really interesting. And then the big ISB guy was Yularen from Clone Wars and Vel was talking to Luther’s assistant which I think Guiguioh and Andrew mentioned already.

Did you have a similar reaction to me? 100% thought we were about to meet K2 and not just a random droid.

kaiielle

Great episode, seeing live action clone troopers in that flashback was so cool but sad ): And bro my first reaction when I saw those K2 esc droids was priceless😭

Yes, so good! Thanks for the info.

kaiielle

Yeah, the flashbacks are wonderful!

kaiielle

OH HER ASSISTANT LOL I didn't even realize it was her! Thank you.

kaiielle

I forgot to talk about the flashbacks, i really like that his show is giving us just enough to understand but let us connect the dots. Clone Troopers working for the Empire ( so not long after episode 3) came to Ferix in the past and hang Clem his adoptive dad ( making his false name means so much more.) We see young Cassian attacking the clones for revenge, explaining why he was send to a youth prison when he was 13 for 3 years, an info we got in conversations with Luthen and Skeen in past episodes. I guess to prison again it is for Cassian, this time for just being a tourist. It sucks but the line was funny.

The woman talking to Vel was Luthan's assistant. She looks very different with her hair down and different makeup/clothes. Also, the white haired imperial speaking at the ISB at the beginning was Admiral Yularen who we know from the clone wars. He wasn't specifically named but that's who it was. He's the head of the ISB at this time.

That was a very cool transition episode, a lot of stuff happened. The women in red you did not recognize is Kleya, Luthen's assistant that he sent to meet Vel in his place. With her hair done differently, i understand why you thought it was a new character. Speaking of new character in this show, the ISB chef that did the speech at the start was actually someone you know. It is Colonel Yularen ( ex Admiral, he has a different rank in the ISB) who was working with Anakin during the Clone Wars. I agree Mon Mothma is great in all of her scenes and her side of the plot is finally starting to take form. It is not easy for her, she can't trust her husband, Tay is obviously a new risk. But she seems to know what she is doing. Cassian has been sentenced to prison, Karn feel like a prisoner in his new cubical job, i like that parallel to end the episode and go in a new arc.
