Andor: Narkina 5 [1x08] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Hey everyone! Wow, this episode was really uncomfortable for me to watch a lot of the time. This episode was definitely the peak of showing just how ruthless the Empire is. [Direct link here.]

Let's chat about it!

I doubt we're getting an explanation but maybe they'll show a scene of those parts being installed so we as the audience can be like OH. Either in eps 11/12 or maybe even next season.

I really like the idea for this Prison, it is REALLY EFFECTIVE AND SCARY. Very Fascist indeed. I’m not sure what they are building but if I had to guess, each floor and or prison building on Narkinna 5 probably build different things. But as for what Andor’s floor is making I’d guess, parts for Tie Fighters or Walkers, they look like big Cogs ⚙️.

Oh right, I totally forgot Andy Serkis was Gollum in LOTR. 😂 SPACE IKEA LMAO. I love that. Maybe we get to see what those items are for in the finale or next season. I agree with you about Syril. Will be interesting!

Kino Loy: "You're mine now..... my own.... my preciousssssssss" Sorry, I just had to 😂 I remember how excited I was when he showed up in this episode. The Narkina 5 prison factory is a truly scary facility. The whole set-up with the competing tables within the level and all the levels competing against each others on top of that. The winners get flavor to their "food" and the losers gets punished. The place is clean but also designed in a way that is just sterile and cold. Kinda strips your soul away over time. I have no idea what they are assembling (there was no Allen-key so it's not from space-IKEA...), but seems the Empire needs a whole lot of those things. With Deadra and Syril meeting this episode it is interesting to see that they are more or less one and the same, but while Deadra is in a position to succeed, Syril is not and he is constantly being kept down. I'm curious to see where that will lead. If he will find a way to prove his worth or if maybe he'll be stepped over enough to turn against the Empire.

Yeah, this prison and the episode in general is very oppressing. They are not pulling any punches. Seeing Saw is great of course. There is also another Rogue One character introduce in that episode. Melshi, one of the prisoner who works at Cassian table. It is the minor character Rebel Sergeant Ruescott Melshi ( played again by Duncan Pow), he is with Cassian freeing Jen from Prison at the start of Rogue One and on the ground on Scarif at the end. I really like that type of connection, not too big to make it the story but something that makes sense. Forest Whitaker, Stellan Skarsgård, Andy Serkis. The casting for this show is incredible. It is so dialogue heavy they had to get top performers but they are really delivering. The arc for this story is episode 8 to 10. This show already did a heist so now we are doing the prison break like you said at the end. And what a prison, it is like right out of the first George Lucas movie, THX 1138.

Like I’ve said before, this show is so raw and grounded, I adore it. The brutality of the prison is genuinely haunting at times. That conversation between Luthen and Saw was so well written and acted, top marks!
