Tales of the Jedi (2022) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Hey everyone! Here is my full-length reaction to all six episodes of Tales of the Jedi! This watchalong reaction is a bit different to ones I've done in the past. In this reaction, you will see the same thoughts and review for each episode that will be going right into the YouTube edits, as that saved me time. The YouTube edits will be split into two videos with Episodes 1-3 in the first video and Episodes 4-6 in the second video. Not sure on release dates yet, but very soon! I'll share the edits for early access for those of you in those tiers as soon as they're copyright cleared. 😊 [Direct link here.]

Really looking forward to talking about this show because I feel like there is so much to talk about! 🥳 And please let me know your favourite episode!

Tales of the Jedi (2022) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Comments

Oh yeah I know wanting an 8 year old Ahsoka episode would have meant having her be a youngling, but I still would love to see that. I genuinely can't remember Yaddle in The Phantom Menace and I've seen it twice now. I'll have to go back and pay more attention.

So good and it makes me want MORE.

Life and Death- A Beautiful introduction to our favorite Jedi. So masterfully done with the animation and pacing. I was really feeling the spiritual vibe of her people and yes, definitely emotional. When she rides in on that creatures back, chill bumps. Choices- Fuckin Mace is right. So cool to get more insight on why Dooku turned away from the Jedi. Filoni is so good at adding the lore. His take on SW without George is the best. It never feels forced or out of place. The Sith Lord- This backstory is amazing. It answers a question I always had, who deleted the Kamino files. Also didn’t realize that Dooku was in the Jedi order during Phantom Menace. Super cool to see the era between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. The music in this episode was phenomenal. Practice Makes Perfect- The shot of Anakin and Soka in front of that window 3 minutes in is just beautiful. So good, and yes, all the feels in this one. Just wish he would have called her Snips once. haha Resolve- I love how Bale was still talking to Ahsoka while talking to the guards. Great to see what Ahsoka is doing after Clone Wars. The artwork in this episode was my favorite. I love how that inquisitor looked so badass and Soka made such quick work of him. As a whole, Tales of the Jedi took me by surprise. I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was. Some of the best SW content this year for sure. I hope they continue to do these shorts.

This show was a true Delight! All the Dooku stuff was incredible!!! Seeing him as a Jedi and what drove him to distrust the Jedi and search for other means to help the galaxy in Palpatine was really interesting. The Ahsoka episodes were also incredible! The first one was really simple and cute. Episode 5 WAS JUST AMAZING! And the Sixth Episode was a mixed bag for me, it was really good, and the Funeral and Design of the Inquisitor were great! But there is some stuff that I can’t mention without spoilers so I won’t. The Fall themed Planet in episode 3 was the Separatist Capital of Raxus which was also in a resent Bad Batch Episode! And you mentioned Ahsoka before the Jedi took her, and they Jedi almost always take Younglings in when they are like 2-4ish. There are a few exceptions like Luke, Anakin, and Rey, because Qui-Gon pushed for it and it was his last wish for Anakin to be allowed in. And there were less that a handful of Jedi when Luke and Rey were allowed in. But in the Clone Wars there is a small scene where we see Plo bring like 3 year old Ahsoka into the Jedi. Oh and YADDLE is actually in the Phantom Menace during the Council scenes. It has been a mystery for YEARS on what happened to her, and now we know💔😭.

Episode 4: Yaddle was in the phantom menace but didn't have a speaking part, so this was sort of a big deal for some hardcore fans. Since she's the only other canon example of Yoda's species, there was always so much speculation around her. The battle between the light (yaddle) and darkness (palpatine) in Dooku during that fight was great. Getting crushed by that door would've been a bad way to go, but for them to bring her back trying to bring the light back to Dooku only for him to kill her with his own hand is a great moment. Episode 5: "Practice makes perfect" seems like such an innocent episode title until you realize what the practice is. Once you realize that time jump too and how long she'd been practicing that, it's pretty crazy. They really know how to hit the feels in these animated shows Episode 6: Last episode ends with feels, this one starts with them. This episode was loosely based on the Ahsoka novel where she goes to a farming community for an "honest living". She uses the name Ashla which is one of the moons from the Jedi "home planet" of Tython. Ashla was the light moon, Bogun was the dark moon. Ahsoka learns the lesson that fighting isn't always the same. She had always fought for the jedi and the republic since she was a youngling and she thought that was the only way to fight. Seeing other people dealing with the empire and saving the people rather than serving the republic/council, she realizes that fighting for the people rather than serving a larger order is the right fight.

Episode 1: It's great to see the community when Ahsoka is born, but it hurts more when you think about how they had to give her up because she's force sensitive. That's something that gets touched on occasionally through star wars but not really enough. Episode 2: Dooku is similar to Anakin in that he's not a BAD person to start with, he just starts doing the wrong things for the right reasons. Similar to how obi-wan and ahsoka keep Anakin in line, qui-gon kept dooku in line. His novel goes more into it but basically between the corruption in the senate and council and him finding out about his family (becoming count), he sees the wrongs in the galaxy and isn't wrong about "corruption like yours must be eradicated", but the way he goes about it is wrong. Episode 3: Now we see why Mace got a place at the council. *small development happens* Mace: "we should take this to the council". More corruption and views of the jedi and senate from people outside of the jedi's coruscant bubble. The contempt in Dooku's "how kind of you, master jedi" is so palpable.

I'll check out the novel one day! And great comments about Dooku.

First episode is just wonderful. Showing the Togruta tribal society, in touch with nature. Such a stark contrast to the action packed Clone Wars. The image of baby Ahsoka touching the creature's nose is poster/wallpaper material. So beautiful. In regards to your comment on Ahsoka's childhood. I don't think there would be much to show as she was around 3 years old when Plo Koon collected her for the Jedi order. However it could be cool to get a better insight into the teaching and training of the younglings at the temple. My impressions of the Dooku episodes is that he initially has his heart in the right place and is someone who is inherently good (a parallel to Anakin). As time pass he becomes more and more disillusioned with the Jedi order as it does not represent what he (and I for that matter) feels the Jedi Knights should be. Protectors of the people. (I'll derail myself a little here and draw a parallel to the movie Kingdom of Heaven, which is centered around the crusades. In particular the Knight's Oath in that movie. It perfectly represents what a Knight should be and you can easily see where the Jedi falls short, with their close ties to the political elite. If you haven't seen it I'll recommend it. It's unfortunately not very historically accurate, but visually it is one of the most beautifully shot movies I've seen). Dooku's hatred for corruption and injustice is what makes him loose control from being an otherwise calm and rational man. I think with his groing distrust for the order, he would have switched sides anyways, but had he not been corrupted by Palpatine I think he would have been a good representative for the seperatists and not just their top villain figure. Practice makes Perfect... Yes, yes, yes. My favorite episode as well. When I binge watched the show I just had to rewatch that episode before moving on to the last 🥰 Anakin's fear of losing those he loves is what drives him to fall to the dark side, yet that same fear is his motivation for making an "imposible" test for Ahsoka to overcome. And it payed off. The self-proclaimed non-Jedi survived while the Masters were gunned down. The last episode very loosely dips into the Ahsoka novel, where she also use the name Ashla (which I understand also is an ancient word for The Force). While cool to actually see Ahsoka living in hiding I still have the novel vividly in the back of my mind and that is a very different story. I still highly recommend the novel/audiobook.

Yeah, so stoked Liam came back! And that's cool his son voiced younger Qui-Gon, I love that.

kaiielle

I was really moved by the whole show, it was a great surprise that it was so good with such short runtimes when it was released. I guess my favourite episode is episode 4 because i was always intrigued by Yaddle since she appeared on the Jedi Council in episode 1 but was never seen again in the movies and she was indeed missing at Qui Gon funeral on Naboo. Well, now we know why. She is not talking in reverse like Yoda so that also new info, Yoda is just a weirdo i guess. :D The whole Dooku story arc was a welcome addition to make his story more nuanced. Liam Neeson voiced Qui Gon in episode 4 and his son voiced the younger version of the character in episode 2, it was a really smart choice. Episode 5 is second favourite, very emotional stuff with Anakin in a way training Ashsoka to save herself from Order 66. And episode 6 was great to project the character in her post episode 3 life that i won't comment more on.

If they ever release an animated show that covers some of that 30 year gap in between ROTJ and TFA that answers key questions from the sequels, I will be so happy.

kaiielle

Oh yeah and something else id like from this show if it got a second season, Is to see episodes take place in the original trilogy and sequel trilogy, maybe an episode about Luke training Leia after ROTJ, or Luke training Ben Solo. And then maybe one that takes place in between the last Jedi and rise of Skywalker where Rey gets taught by leia or maybe sees someone’s force ghost or something, idk🤷‍♂️ I’m not a fan of the sequels but I’m always up for expanding upon already existing content to make it better, they did it for the prequels with clone wars so I don’t see why they can’t do it here (:

Sean H

I agree with you on what you'd like to see!

kaiielle

Definitely didn't notice that Jedi! So cool.

kaiielle

My biggest hope is that we get more Tales of the Jedi but in the regular Clone Wars format. I remember when this released it was one of the most in demand shows of the year or something along those lines. It was above Andor and ranked 4th overall I think, under Stranger Things and a couple other shows. They could do so much with it though, especially if they crossed the Saga. I'd absolutely love some themed around the Nightsisters/ Dathomir Witches, formation of the Inquisitorius, the first days of Anakin being Vader based off the Darth Vader comics where no one knows who he is yet, some Luke, Leia, and Han adventures post A New Hope, etc. They have refined their animation so much, it's so much more cinematic and detailed. In one of your Bad Batch reactions you talked about how excited you were to see the visuals for season 2 and I'm right there with you. I think Tales of the Jedi looks even better than Bad Batch S1 does lol. Anywho, glad you enjoy the mini series!! I don't know if you noticed but the Padawan that was watching Ahsoka train was the same Padawan from the beginning of the Bad Batch. I love how the shows like to leave little connective nuggets.

Volume

This show is just peak fiction, having this come out the same day as an episode on Andor was just >>> So much peak Star Wars in one day! But yeah this series was phenomenal, it totally changed my view on dooku and made the scene in attack of the clones where dooku is talking to a captured Obi Wan really sad, especially with dooku saying ‘I could use his help right now’ and ‘I wish he was still alive’ when referring to Qui Gon like AWWWW 🥲 Also of course the more ahsoka stuff, the better. She’s my favourite character and I will never get enough of her. Also that little jedi watching ahsoka train in the Jedi temple in episode 5 is the same Jedi from the start Bad Batch that Hunter lets escape (: I’d give this series a 9/10, lovedddd it. Loved your reactions as always, KL 😁
