The Bad Batch: Spoils of War + Ruins of War [2x01 + 2x02] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

I'm super excited to find out!

The fact that Rampart thought the Bad Batch all died on Kamino makes me think that either Crosshair lied about what happened, or he never actually joined back up with the Empire. Super interesting either way. 🤔

Those are great questions about Omega that I haven't really thought of, so thank you for sharing! It would be cool if this season did explore that more for us. And to your point about the antagonists, YES! It feels like the storm troopers in this season so far are still very "clone-like" in their competency and smarts and we aren't yet at the "silly stormtroopers can't aim" level of trooper. 😅

I could be wrong, but I feel like these two episodes did set up one of the main "conflicts" for the season. Hiding from the empire (what Hunter leans towards, mainly for Omega's sake) or fighting against the empire (as Echo wants). Could Omega really have a normal childhood, being a clone of Jango Fett? The clones were bred for war, and in most of them you can clearly see that, with how they act (even cut, when protecting his family is very much into the good fight). While I think I remember in season 1 they mentioned Omega is an unaltered clone, how much of Jango's adventurous and martial traits are in her? Also, something that, as a biologist, puzzles me is how an unaltered clone of a male can turn out to be female? To make you biologically a female, you need to lose the Y chromosome and replace it with a second X chromosome... it's possible, yes, and easier than making a male from female genetic material, but wouldn't it that count as an alteration? xD, am I overthinking it? Perhaps human genetics work different in Star Wars. Another mystery is what is special about Omega? Did the kaminoans want her only because she is a good repository of Jango Fett's unaltered genetic material? Or is there something more to it? She seems to have some very exceptional skills, very perceptive and analitical. Boba, who is also an unaltered clone of Jango Fett, is on his own right capable beyond the average of his age (in the Clone Wars at least), but Omega is on another level. So, was there some modification to Omega, and maybe they were only talking about aging when they said she was unaltered? I don't know, but I am excited to see if we find out more about Omega and what's special about her, as in season 1 they did tease us quite a bit with that. On another note, one thing I loved about these two episodes is that we got some very competent antagonists, more so than in most of Star Wars. Releasing the escape pods as soon as they knew they had guests aboard was a level of competency we seldom see in Star Wars antagonists. And overall, the actions of the clones loyal to the empire in these two episodes seemed very logical.

Love those little details! Totally agree with you.

I REALLY ENJOYED these episodes! The second one was WAY better than the first but they were both incredible, nothing to complain about from me! Wilco is the first Clone in a LONG LONG time to be an officer without custom markings, which signifies to me that the Clones are definitely being treated less as individuals and more as a part of the war machine of Palpatein. Fun fact in the first shot of the inside of one of the shipping containers, we can see some pillars, pillars that we last saw Dooku and Savage lifting as part of Savage’s Force Training. We also hear Omega talking about 2 shuttle types, the Delta and Lambda types. Delta being the one from Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith that Palpatein would take to visit Maul on Mandalor, and to bring Anakin to the medical facility to get his Vader Suit. And Lambda being the standard Imperial shuttle that we see Vader, Palpatein, and most Imperial officers use in Rebels and the OG Trilogy. I mention it because it’s another small detail of the Empire moving away from Republic Era ships and Troops. After Nemmik in Andor getting crushed by a heavy thing, I was ACTUALLY Nervous for Tech this entire 2nd Episode! And it was really really nice to see Echo be more front and center for once, he’s always around but often has the least to do, or the fewest interactions with Omega. So the groupings we had this time were a lot of fun! Love Romar! And I CANNOT BELIEVE THE DISRESPECT FROM CID. After an entire Season without a Nickname for Echo and she calls him KILLJOY😂😅😂😅. And Romar calling Tech ACE was adorable

The Dad Batch 🤣🤣 I love that so much. I hope we do see Crosshair next week! And yes a few months makes sense, but not sure if we will get the timeline confirmed or not. Either way, just so hyped! And thank you for watching.

I am very happy that we have the dad batch back on our tv screens. The last scene was very interesting and i definitively want to see Crosshair next week to learn what the heck he said to Rampart. As far as how much time has past since the end of season 1, the official synopsis of the show Disney put out indicates it has been months without any more precision. So less than a year is what we got, maybe we will learn more in the episodes at some point. Great reaction, i love your speculative brain going to work with ideas. That is the fun of watching week to week for sure, regardless if we are right or wrong. ps : More Echo in this show, finally !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahh such great points, I love it! Thanks for sharing.

Not a lot of story progression in this one but still a lot to talk about They delayed the release of this show, and while it could be production related, I have to imagine part of it was so that it came out A) after andor, B) after Tales of the Jedi, and C) after the holidays. Having this come out after Andor and Tales of the Jedi makes so much more sense. In Tales we see Dooku struggling with the jedi not dealing with corruption, wanting to kill a senator that is stealing from his people, and then in bad batch we hear from one of his people that Dooku was stealing from them as much as other planets. In Andor parallels, we get the same theme of the desire to just get enough money to disappear like Cassian originally wanted to do, and we immediately have Cid say they'll get to you eventually, which is what Cassian eventually learned and made him want to fight. I have to imagine the difference with Echo wanting to fight for others and Hunter wanting to disappear is just as much about Echo serving under Anakin and Rex as much as Hunter wanting to protect Omega. We see Echo cares about Omega too and sees the real picture that the only way to really save her from the Empire is to get rid of the Empire.

Yeah I figured Cody was the one talking to Crosshair. Super excited for that, whenever it comes! Wilko still interests me, but he probably is for sure dead now. Guess we'll see!

kaiielle

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, I knew Omega was older, which is still fun to wrap my head around. Yeah, a lot of these shows are going to be rewatched on my TV. I don't have a good one, but bigger than my PC monitor and getting to relax on the couch is a nice plus!

kaiielle

Wanda Sykes as Phee. Haha that’s awesome she’s in it. Don’t forget, Omega is older than the rest of the batch. I don’t think much time has passed, probably less than a year Great to see Cid Damn! Dooku was rich! Haha! What a cool idea for a mission, love it! It does look like Cody but I’m not convinced it’s him. I feel like the animation took another step forward. You could see it in the shadowing. I’m watching on a Sony 4K OLED and it looks incredible. HDR makes a huge difference too. Nice little touching moment between Omega and Echo at the end. Off to a great start. Thanks again for sharing your reaction!

I'm assuming you're giving us permission to talk about the trailer, based on what you've said in the end review of the episode: Wilko isn't Cody, but Cody is in the trailer. He's the one talking to Crosshair. You might be able to recognize his helmet and armor and jetpack, it's grey instead of orange but it has the same distinct custom patterns. Wilko just had regular unmarked Clone armor with a pauldron.
