Iron Man 3 (2013) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Comments

im glad you enjoyed it as much as I did, it had a mixed reaction on release but i always loved it, Iron man was always my favourite in the MCU but before it was because he was funny and ive always loved tech based super heroes, but this movie he became my favourite because of Tony, as someone who has major issues with Anxiety and panic attacks, seeing my favourite hero suffer from the same issues definitely meant a lot, i love that the fact he suddenly was faced with "gods" and aliens and war affected him, i love that it was never just left behind, such an impactful moment where he was willing to sacrifice himself affected him and his character. i also love we got to see Tony be a hero rather than just the suit i personally loved the Mandarin twist especially with the times it was released, i felt it was a great commentary while still being comic booky, fans of the villain were less pleased because apparently he was a villain in the comics, so i can understand if that was the case some might be disappointed (i also love Trevor haha) also what is cool is a lot of those suits at the end are from the comics, which is a nice nod to fans overall this is one of my favourite MCU movies, especially of the single hero movies anyway, great reaction, cant wait to see the next!

Thanks Bryan! Glad you enjoyed it.

Great reaction. I thoroughly enjoy this film. I think it works as a great epilogue to The Avengers and the character we’ve been following now for 4 movies. I liked seeing Tony emotionally grapple with the events and decisions of his life. I do wish we had devoted 45 seconds spit seeing him help Pepper recover from Extremis vs a quick narrative resolution. Other than that this is well paced, I like the characters, the script, & (the first time) enjoyed seeing where the story took me. Glad you enjoyed it too KL. Looking forward to your edited thoughts on YouTube.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised that they dove into how the events of The Avengers affected Tony. I don't know that I would have really expected it. Ben was great. After watching last night, I kept thinking about how he looked somehow both so much like himself, but also nothing like himself. I think that's why I had a hard time being so confident that it was him while watching. Once the English accent came out in Trevor then I felt a bit more confident.

That's hilarious that you don't watch the IM movies because TS is so much like your hubby, I love that. TBH, I haven't seen any other RDJ movies! Just these ones. I'd definitely like to watch more so please make sure to suggest them on my form (linked in my pinned post). Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.

After recording this part and before I started recording my thoughts for the edited version, I sat and thought about it for a bit and I would place this as my #2 movie so far. I still prefer The Avengers just because it brought everyone together, but this is easily my favourite of the "hero by themselves" movies.

That was a fun watch. As the first movie following The Avengers, it‘s so good to see that such an experience as what happened in New York actually leaves a mark and that it’s not just business as usual following that. Makes the character more real and relatable. RDJ really shine in this one. Now, I’ve never seen Ben Kingsley in a role that he hasn’t been absolutel fantastic at, and this is no different. Just love the contrast between “The Mandarin”, who is so menacing and Trevor who is a complete airhead. Yeah, kinda feel bad for him to that he got arrested, but then there wasn’t much of an option really.

Glad to see you enjoyed this one. The Iron Man movies are not my go to MCU watch anytime movies. Of the 3 films, depending on the day, I would tell you 2 & 3 are equally my favorites. I am a fan of Trevor for sure, Ben Kingsley killed it. RDJ, especially as Tony Stark, reminds me to much of my husband to be a “go to” escape from my own reality viewing experience 😆 Must be why I enjoy the Norse gods and America’s Golden Boy so much! I do agree that RDJ does get to flex more of his acting skills in this film. I need to check what RDJ films you have seen and suggest a few🤔 For now, onward to The Dark World and see what the aforementioned citizens of Asgard are up to. Have a good week, looking forward to the edit for YouTube of Iron Man 3 and your collected thoughts!

That was fun! Thank you!

This is one of my favourite MCU movies. As I never read any of the comics I had no previous knowledge of the Mandarin character so didn’t negatively affect my view of it. I love Tony’s vulnerability in this movie, and his interactions with Harley are great. There’s also some of my favourite hero moments too. Nerd alert - I have a big soft spot for the Mk42 suit as it was my first sixth scale diecast figure. Thanks for your reaction.

I honestly really love this movie, it’s got its faults and the villain is a bit too much at times but I can’t help but love it. Everything you said in your brief thoughts section I completely second, this is one of RDJ’s best iron man performances for sureeee. I do personally prefer iron man 1 but this movie is still quite close. A great start to phase 2 in my opinion and a really good reaction, KL! Also if I may ask, how would you rank this one overall in the MCU so far? I’d guess maybe second place just below avengers?
