Rebels: Rebel Resolve + Fire Across The Galaxy [1x14 + 1x15] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Right, I keep forgetting about Ezra's birthday! Great reminder. And thank you!

kaiielle

A good way to remember how much time has passed between the end of the Clone Wars and Rebels is Ezra himself, since he was actually born on the day that The Republic became The Empire. Which also means he is actually older than both Luke and Leia by a single day! Anyways, fantastic reaction as always. I can't wait to see what you think of season 2!

Melody Dia

Yep, that's my hope too. But I'm kinda biased as well because my entry into the Star Wars universe was Knights of the Old Republic, taking place around 4,000 years before the events of the prequels. 😅

kaiielle

I agree, I am not gonna be picky, I don't need an appearence from any character from other shows, and I will not complain if we don't get even a mention, I just think that acknowledging that things from other shows happen would make sense, but regardless, Andor will be great. Also, I agree, if we take Obi-wan's words in New Hope about the Jedi serving the Republic for a 1000 generations as accurate, then the Jedi and the Republic should be at least 25000 years old, which was very much the case in Legends. That's a lot of time to make stories in different settiings, and even in Legends, most of that timeline was unexplored. And in the Disney Canon they have even more freedom to explore any timeline, which I am very much on board with, while hoping they try to honour some of the most iconic ideas from Legends.

Thanks so much for your thoughts! I am not gonna be picky on Andor S2 mentioning anything from other shows. I actually like that Andor feels a bit more spaced out from what we know, you know? Even though I love seeing people we know, as I'm making my way through all of this, my dream is for Disney to make something Star Wars related that is SO incredibly spaced out from everything else, which we are going to get with The Acolyte. This universe and timeline is so massive that I'm ready for us to move away from this general timeline and either go back hundreds/thousands of years, or forward hundreds/thousands of years from the Skywalker timeline. I think this is one reason why I'm enjoying Rebels so much. This Ghost crew is all new people! New for me. I can understand how it would feel harder to get into back then when you first watched it, but I'm loving it.

kaiielle

Great season finale. Obviously, Ahsoka's reveal is a highlight, but people have already commented onn that, so I'll focus on something else. Season 1 of Rebels was ok to me, but at the time I didn't feel like the main crew's characters and story was amazing, good enough to keep watching, but even if season 1 of the Clone Wars (and Clone Wars as a whole) was quite inconsistent, on average I still think I was more interested and hooked by season 1 characters and storylines than season 1 of Rebels. But while the main storyline and crew of Rebels season 1 was good but not great (in my opinion), what I really enjoyed about Rebels was the worldbuilding, seeing on screen how was the life under the mid-to-late empire, and seeing, specially in the last episode, glimpses of the wider rebellion. I liked a lot the thought of a transition from a few, loosely connected cells with a lot of secrecy, to a more cohesive, united and open rebellion, and that everyoe on the Ghost except Hera didn't know anything about other cells. Having watched Andor recently, I can't help but noticing an interesting parallel: Ezra's transmission of hope bringing a change to how the rebellion operates strikes me as having a very similar effect then Marva's funeral message. It also kind of makes sense, as I think they are happening more or less at the same time. Obviously, Rebels couldn't reference anything in Andor, because it was made way before Andor, but I do hope that Andor season 2 at least acknowledges some of what happens in Rebels. I am fine with Andor season 1 not mentioning anything from Rebels, focusing on entirely different characters worked great, and it sort of makes sense because of the secrecy of the early rebellion that nothing about the crew of the ghost is mentioned in Andor. But season 2 of Andor will be a different story, as it happens when the rebellion has already established itself openly. If the creators of Andor don't want Ahsoka or other main characters from other shows to appear, great, no need for that, but to me, it wouldn't make sense to not even hear about Bail Organa, as together with Mon Mothma (and now we know of Luthen), he was one of the main leaders of the rebellion. Obviously, that's my opinion, and I am sure Andor season 2 is gonna be great whatever they do with it. But going back to Rebels, it is nice to rewatch Rebels with you, I did watch Clone Wars a few times fully and also many youtube reactions, but with Rebels, it is my second time wattching it. Looking forward to season 2.

Oh yeah, I definitely missed that detail even though I know what Ahsoka's face markings look like LOL. I'll have to go back and watch that part! And thanks so much.

kaiielle

Now that everyone has weighed in with their Fulcrum stories I just have to add one more. When Hera and Sabine go pick up supplies from Fulcrum at the abandoned base, the crates have Ahsoka's face markings on them. I was really worried you would pick up on that, because at the same time someone shared their Ahsoka snowboard with the same pattern in the Discord and then the rest of the season wouldn't have been such a mystery! Really enjoyed your reaction to the first season, looking forward to more!

Kerelon

That's so cool!

kaiielle

Bail showing up had me CONFUSED LOL. But in the end, I knew I was right! So excited for more.

kaiielle

Man, I was so impatient at finding out who Fulcrum was at this point, the moment we had that scene I just had to try and figure it out and pay attention. Everyone talks very unique with their voice (and even with text conversations too) so it can be easier to spot it. It just sounded like her to me!

kaiielle

The hidden TIE coming back was very cool indeed! I can see how it'd be tricky to get into this show at the start, for sure. But I knew it would be worth it and I'm so looking forward to more!

kaiielle

Thanks Sean! Super good finale and thank you for clarifying the age!

kaiielle

When you watch this show for a while you can start understanding what Chopper says. Dave Filoni was his voice also which is awesome. Chopper is my favorite droid for sure.

Keeley Thurman

I love how you were breaking down the Fulcrum voice patterns and comparing it to Ahsoka's speech patterns, then the Senator Organa fake out you were very confused and disappointed, then excited and vindicated once Ahsoka showed up. Love that fake out, so well done by them.

Andrew Sitek

Same! Back when this came out the possibility Fulcrum could be Ahsoka was just not on the radar for us. I thought it might be Mon Mothma back then or someone like that.

Keeley Thurman

C1-10P (CHOP) also became my favorite droid because of this series. Great pick up of Ashley’s cadence and inflections, Kaiielle! I didn’t pick it up that fast until a rewatch about a year ago. Because of the release order, many of us who were NOT as fast as you, got to pat ourselves on the back in Clone Wars: Season 7 when Admiral Yularen tells Anakin that “he’s received a transmission from someone using your subspace frequency ‘Fulcrum’.” We were like “Yeah! We know who that is!” So, for a brief period… we Kaiielle’d that shit!

Ike

Like Sean said, Ahsoka is 32 in Rebels! I Sobbed the first time I saw the Ahsoka reveal! Because for me in 2012 I believe, Ahsoka had just left the Jedi order, Clone Wars ended and I was left without any Star Wars for 3-4 years until the end of 2015/2016 with Rebels. I was in my early teen years so I didn’t put together Fulcrum possibly being Ahsoka at the time. So when I heard her voice and saw her climb down that ladder I SCREAMED, then Cried😅. I love Ahsoka SO MUCH! But enough of Ahsoka time to talk about Rebels! The season 1 finale was really great! The lightsaber duel was creative yet similar to the Duel of the Fates with Maul, Obi Wan, and Qui Gon. I noticed the callback to an officer telling Tarkin to abandon ship for his safety! Because he survived by leaving here, but didn’t leave the Death Star when he was told to and died for it😅! I love Sabine’s paint job on the tie! And also I know you noticed it this episode, but all the lightsabers in this show are animated with a thinner blade and POINTED tip, whereas Clone Wars had thick blades and pointed tips and the movies Rounded tips I think. The Grand Inquisitor dying was really well done I think, it’s rare for a Villain to essentially “Give Up” but with the alternative being VADER I get it😨! Chopper slayed as always too! Love rewatching rebels with you!

Justin

The Grand Inquisitor dying just in time so Vader can enter the show for season 2, funny how that worked out haha. Great end of season 1, i enjoyed the payoff of the hidden TIE from way earlier in the season, it is good writing and give more value to past episodes. Like Sean said, Ahsoka is a lot older around 31 or 32 so the voice adjustement was a good call by Ahsley. I think i said it in my comment of the pilot, but i had a hard time getting into this show at the time of the release but by the end of season 1 i was invested. Looking back, i was not really fair to this show honestly, season 1 is better than i remembered. Thanks for the reaction, and looking forward to season 2.

Guiguioh

I LOVEEDDDDDD this finale so much! So many surprises and wholesome moments AAAAA! By far my favourite part was the Ahsoka reveal but that’s purely because she’s my favourite character lol I must say though, I did find the inquisitors death very sudden, but that last line was honestly chilling, like you said he’s clearly talking about Vader and palpatine and when the grand inquisitor is scared of Vader, that’s when you KNOW Vader is no joke. Also, with Ahsokas age, she was 17 at the end of clone wars and is 32 in season 1 of rebels (: Loved this reaction, KL! I am beyond excited for your reaction to season 2, it is INSANE.

Sean H

I appreciate you sharing this! I must tell you though, that you are telling me information that I talked about in this video. It was the very first topic I discussed as soon as the finale was over, because I let the credits play to check who voiced Ahsoka. Saw it was Ashley, talked about it for a bit, even mentioned how she is probably just adusting her voice for an older Ahsoka. 😊

kaiielle

Season 2 is gonna blow your mind! And I don't know if you've looked it up, but Ashley is actually voicing Ahsoka for this one too, she's just making her sound more grown up :)
