Ooooh, good prediction though! The speculating is so fun.

That's a great point about Tech, it was so great to really see him be himself here.

kaiielle

Prediction: Because Tech won the race and his face was on the big screen, he is recognized by either the Empire or Cody. IF the Empire then what Meleshi said come into play. Rampart would worry about word getting out that they weren't dead. He'd come after them with Cid getting caught up and having to make a choice of helping them or helping herself?🤔 IF by Cody, then (I dont want to say anything in respect if anyone wanted to stay away from ANY kind of SPOILERS but if you watched the trailer then you understand😅) But then again this just 4 episodes in so trying to make a prediction this early is a liiiiiittle bit of a stretch.......doesnt mean its not fun to still do so😄

I loved this episode so so much! I’ve seen people point out how all of the Bad Batch bois are professionals at thier respective skills, and because they are Soldiers especially CLONES they don’t really get praise for doing incredible things because it is ALWAYS expected from them. So when Tech this season got praised for fixing the Serennean data box and winning this Race his initial response was “of course I did”. But we are seeing him slowly learn that it is ok to feel proud of himself! I love that SO MUCH! And this was definitely a PODRACING callback that was very fun! I think that PODRACING might actually still be more dangerous though. Because PODRACING you have a rickety wagon strapped to JET ENGINES!!! Whereas Riot Racing you have a fully speeder equipped with shields. Also I love that Tech was the only human just like Anakin! And that was morbidly hilarious when a spectator just keeled over and died from a rogue blaster bolt😅! Fun fact time! Meleshi’s species was first introduced in the Force Awakens, the bad guy racer’s species is from the podrace in the Phantom Menace, and the 2 guards are a Gamorian (Jabba’s pig guards) and a Trandosian (Bossk&Cid’s race). So Meleshi’s whole crew mixes aliens from all 3 MAIN Star Wars Eras, which is really nice

Glad you enjoyed it! A lighthearted episode was definitely good fun.

Truly so sassy, with a smidge of annoyance LOL.

IMO there is always character development in filler. I define "filler" as something that happens that doesn't really impact the overall story that goes through the season. I'm sure by the end of this season, we could take out this episode and the overall story happening this season will still be the same. Interesting prediction about Cid! Excited to see if that's the case or not. And completely agree about the droids.

kaiielle

Filler is definitely not bad! And I love Tech!

I think (quite wisely) they are adding a few dimensions to what used to be a one-sided character - an aloof technician and soldier with a high IQ. — So far this season, we’ve seen Tech’s commitment to Omega’s education and his own dedication to fight even when injured. Yeah, it’s filler - it’s that dark loaf of bread at a nice restaurant before the main course, lol … (all shows have them) but not a waste and still enjoyable. We all love these stories.

I think the concept of fillery is an interesting label. Afterall, some of the most successful TV shows of all time are 100% fillery episodes, in the sense that there's not really an overarching story throughout the show (the Simpsons comes to mind, but there are many more). Does character development count towards not being a "filler"? I am not saying I disagree entirely about this being a bit filllery, just thinking out loud. About a few details from the episode: in Star Wars, when a droid exhibits a strong personality, it's usually as a result of operating without memory wipes for too long. At least in Legends (not sure about Canon) it was considered dangerous for droids to not have their periodical memory wipe because it could end up in true santience and rebellion. I wonder if all of the droids with strong personalities that we have seen recently (B2, Chopper, and now TAY-0) are like that for the same reason as R2D2m not having their memory wiped. Also, my prediction is that Sid won't do anything actively bad to the Bad Batch, not of her own initiative, ut she will be placed in a tight spot where she'll have to risk a lot (her life, her freedom, maybe all her money) in order to save The Bad Batch, and the big question will be: has she really changed enough to care for someone else when her skin is on the line?

That episode flew by, like it was in a race to the finish line... kinda 😂 TAY-O must be the most sassy droid in the history of television. It was funny but like you said, it would quickly get annoying. I love the way he could just vertically flip his head around though.

As a Phantom Menace fan, this episode was right up my alley! Such a chill, nostalgic and fun episode as a prequels fan. I'm glad we got a lighthearted episode this week, I'm more than ready for more fun SW at this point after the Andor series.
