Rebels: The Siege of Lothal [2x01 + 2x02] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

I def think Hera's life as a child influenced how she is now as an adult and it's great to see! Completely agree with you about Vader.

Wow! I didn't remember these two episodes were so great this early. As I mentioned in previous comments, the world-building around the empire and the early rebellion is to me one of the best and most enjoyable parts of Rebels (not that other things are bad, it's just one of my personal highlights). And as such, these kinds of episodes where the Ghost crew fights directly as part of the Rebel military are one of my favorites. To see all those classic rebel ships, such as the A-wings and CR90s. I also love commander Sato: his first impulse was to stay with the ship, but once he realised the ship was doomed, he ordered to abandon it, both things speak of his quality as a military leader. Also, it is interesting to see how well Hera works inside the military structure, when the rest of the Ghost crew is, to put it mildly, lacking military discipline. Perhaps, being the daughter of Cham Syndulla makes her more militarily minded. Also, in my opinion, they did a great job at portraying Vader as menacing. While he is clearly playing with them, it is also very clear how any of them don't stand a chance against him. Plus, singlehandedly decimating a whole squadron of A-wings (which are actually superior dogfighters than the X-wings) and disabling a frigate is what we would expect from the best pilot in the galaxy, but still very impressive.

Such a good point!

While there's no real "arcs" like clone wars, there are a number of two parter episodes in this series. Probably put a list on discord or something

We've seen it ever since the original trilogy that Vader loves to play with his food. He gets a kick out of being much more powerful than his opponents and he wants them to know it. Against Luke, Reva, Obi-wan (the first fight in Obi-Wan), now Kanan and Ezra. To be fair, it's probably pretty boring being the best fighter he comes across so he's got to entertain himself I guess.

Thanks Sean! So heckin' good.

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy my questions and speculating, so excited to find out!

Loved the reaction! I’ve been excited to watch these episodes again!!! Season 2 episode 2 is INCREDIBLE!!! The first episode is also great but that second episode is just FIRE!🔥! Vader is SO MENACING, but in a slightly different way hear. He is designed leaner and taller which is really fun! And I also think that the shot of him force lifting the flaming Walker over himself was EPIC! I really love the fight both in Space and on the ground. The discussion on whether to Join the Rebels or not is great! And Vader and Ahsoka sensing each other is incredible! Vader’s “The Apprentice LIVES” is bone chilling! Which is on theme with Vader’s presence emanating a COLD AURA to Force Sensitives🥶. Fun Fact Time- 1. Hera and Kanen talking in the hallway with Rebels having to shuffle between them is a direct reference to Han and Liea in the Hoth Echo Base in Empire Strikes Back! 2. Palpatein says “if he lives” in regards to Kenobi. But Rebels takes place AFTER the Kenobi show meaning that Palpatein is 1000% Gaslighting Vader😂, because last time either Sith Lord checked, Kenobi was alive. Kenobi and Rebels Season 1&2 are between 4-5 Years apart 3. The Tracker on the Ship is what Reva basically did to Lola in Kenobi, and what Vader did to the Falcon in A New Hope. WHICH Leia calls out in A New Hope, because she personally encountered that trick with Reva and the Rebels would know of it via this show! There’s more, but spoilers so in do time! Also if it helps the next 2 episodes are a Part 1&2 as well. I checked and there is a “To be Continued…” in there between them😅

I love your reaction and theories! Especially since you got to experience the end of Clone Wars, it's so interesting seeing your perspective and theoretical spin on things. Also I'm really excited for the Mandalorian whenever that comes in the future (definitely don't burn yourself out to get us there, your health and wellbeing are very important.) <3 Can't wait for next weeks reactions.

These episodes are so much fun, it is like the show is opening to a larger world suddenly. I really like your open questions about what Kanan and Ahsoka do know about Vader. No comment of course. I find they striked a good balance in the fight with Vader. He obviously was going easy on them and he had a tracker already in place in the ship so it was kinda the plan ( or the backup plan at least.) You have to wonder if letting Rebels go to catch more of them was an idea he copied from Reva from Kenobi. Rebels was created first, Kenobi later, but it is fun retro continuity. Great reaction, i am looking forward to more of season 2 in the coming weeks.

I have not watched these episodes since they first aired. And they're as good as I remember.

This was such a great start to season 2 OMG! So many great moments, I really love the line from Hera ‘alright kids do mom and dad proud’ so wholesome! 😆 I also agree with you on the visuals so far, there’s many great shots In these two episodes, I love myself some dope cinematography! Can’t wait for the next episodes!
