Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Hello everyone! Continuing through Phase Two and it's time for the next reaction. Y'all, it was so JARRING going from something omega serious like The Winter Soldier to... this. 😂 I won't spoil my reaction, but I am very much looking forward to editing this one for a few reasons.

And I'm very curious to know who your favourite character in this movie is, because I feel like there's so many characters that could be people's favourites. So let me know below. [Direct link here.]

Thanks for watching! 💚

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Comments

I'm very sorry to hear that you're only going to watch reactions to stuff that I enjoy. Personally, I love experiencing reactions where the person feels differently than I do about the film/TV show, because it gives me a different perspective and some greater understanding. But to each their own. I will never fake a reaction just so people will watch it.

kaiielle

Thank you for your brutal honesty about your feelings towards this movie, I think everyone appreciates that. I waited to watch this one until I was in the mood for something fun. Oh well. I am slightly surprised some people saying they hadn’t picked up on your feelings during the reaction, it was all too clear for me. I watch most reactions with a slight delay on the reactor, so when anything interesting happens I can look across to my iPad and see the full reaction happen. Anyway, at pretty much every little quip or joke that made me smile or laugh I looked across expectantly and was greeted with a blank look across your face. This is not a criticism just an observation, if you’re not enjoying it then I get it. I thought it might change as the movie went on but nope. I was about to abandon it half way through but decided to finish watching the movie anyway. I really enjoy the different tone to this one, and personally feel the soundtrack is one of the best parts about it. At least I know for future favourite movies to watch your end thoughts before sitting down for a full watch along. I love so many different types of humour, and silliness will always have a place in my heart. Shame you didn’t enjoy it, but everyone’s different.

James Hadden

I second this! The variety of storytelling styles and characters in the MCU is definitely one of its strengths and staying power as a franchise. There truly is something for just about everyone, and if there isn’t yet, just wait, Papa Feige is working on it, he’s only one man 😜

CheshireKat528

One of the things I love about the MCU is that it brings something for everyone. There is both the serious films, the silly ones and those in between. Sure not everything resonates with everyone but there are so many movies that there are plenty to pick from when looking for your favorites. Personally I like most of them, regardless of tone. The silliness here I think is nicely balanced. But I have no problem understanding that it didn't resonate with you. For GOTG Vol 1, I'd say Rocket is my favorite character.

Rune

Thanks Tommy! Def feeling very Game of Thrones like with so many names but I'm sure as I get more into it, it'll be fine.

kaiielle

Thanks for another great reaction. Totally get where you're coming from with your closing thoughts, the tone of this film is really jarring when you look at the films preceding and following it. The cosmic side of the MCU can feel a little silly, especially when compared to movies like Iron Man and Captain America that are relatively grounded in reality. There's a lot of groundwork being laid in this film for later entries, and remember being quite overwhelmed with names and places on my first watch. You may end up looking back on this one more fondly with time. Can't wait for the next one :)

Tommy Pitts

Maybe. Time will tell.

Karl 70

I'm glad you love it! The humour is definitely for certain types of people and not knocking that at all. And I'm still excited for future Guardians movies and other movies they'll appear in.

kaiielle

Oh interesting! No need to apologize on not finishing a reaction, that's totally fine. 🤣 Perhaps you're subconsciously comparing to better MCU films that have a bit of a different tone to them?

kaiielle

Sigh, yeah. We'll see how the comments go. 🤣

kaiielle

I didn't love this movie... 🤣 You watched the whole video right?

kaiielle

Thanks Kat! I'm glad you enjoyed that I didn't fully enjoy it LOL. Rocket is great, I'm still blown away by Bradley Cooper's voice acting.

kaiielle

That's cool! I'll pay more attention in editing on that.

kaiielle

It might be better after a few more viewings, and with added context of later MCU films!

kaiielle

My wife had almost the exact same reaction to this film. Didn't enjoy it at all. Mainly I suspect because there's so much to remember. Planets, characters and allegiances. She enjoyed it more the second time around and now its one of her favourite films. She's not alone, a lot of people find this film grows on them with multiple watches. I'm interested to see if your view changes after a second viewing. Personally this is one of my favourite movies. But regardless you honesty is appreciated as ever. I'm glad you don't fake it.

Karl 70

This movie definitely isn’t for everyone, and I completely get why you wouldn’t like it and I respect your opinion but me personally, I adore it SO MUCH! I’m a huge James Gunn fan and just generally love the vibe of this movie, I think it’s better in hindsight after watching all the MCU. I’m not gonna go into a load of detail but this movie just resonates with me so much (:

Sean H

I liked this movie a lot when it first came out, but on this rewatch (which I actually didn't finish, sorry!) I didn't finish. I got to the battle in Knowwhere and was just kinda bored. I'm not really sure what changed my tastes, but I definitely understand your reaction to this movie.

Keeley Thurman

Oh boy, the YouTube comments on this one are going to be fun 😂 Thanks for your honest thoughts KL. Even though this is one of my favorite MCU movies, I can definitely see how it might not land with everyone. Looking forward to Age of Ultron.

Trey Gibbons

Definitely Rocket but Drax is also very special. I knew you would love it.

Curaitis

“Ain’t no thing like me, except me.” One of my favorite lines in the MCU. Rocket is my favorite Guardian, there is a close second, but they are a spoiler 🤐😉 I was overjoyed to finally see someone else NOT be blown away by this movie on the first watch. Don’t get wrong, the Guardians have grown on me over time, but they are far from my favorites. The humor just doesn’t quite hit for me. To be fair, I have always preferred dark comedy, drama, and trauma topped off with a thick layer of sarcasm. No surprise that Rocket is my favorite of the group. I have come appreciate the GOTG for the levity they bring, even if I don’t personally enjoy it most of the time. I do enjoy the universe building these movies provide, it is a lot to take in on the first watch, by the end of phase 3 you will be a pro 😁 The post credit scene with Howard The Duck was a treat for me. I am not familiar with the comics, but as a child in the 80’s I loved the movie and watched it regularly. It is not a good movie by today’s standards, maybe not even by 80’s standards 😆 but to a 7 year old it was gold! If you want to deep dive into how far Marvel movies have come I recommend giving it a watch, to my knowledge it is the first Marvel comic to be made into a theatrically released movie. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Looking forward to the edit!

CheshireKat528

each song used told a story about the nature of the scenes and the story of peters relationship with his mom

Joel

Thanks Rhys! Like I said, really looking forward to editing this to see if my opinions adjust at all through that experience. If they do, I'll definitely be laying it ALL out in my thoughts and review, but if not then I'll just be honest like I always am and will prepare for the hate comments. 😂

kaiielle

Yeah it seems I'm in the minority group with this movie, which should make for a fun YouTube comments section on this video. 👀 Oh well, I went through some hell on Man of Steel and Pulp Fiction, so we'll add this one to that list. 🤣 Still glad I watched it of course, and excited to continue. Especially since another Avengers movie is next!

kaiielle

So interesting how your initial thoughts are the opposite of most people, really interesting how people view movies so differently! loved hearing your thoughts.

Rhys

This movie was about a bunch of characters nobody really knew. They took a chance and threw it out there. Nobody thought it would do good and it became a huge success.

Jam

Thanks Jim! It was definitely comic relief, that's for sure! Just felt a bit too much for me, I guess. But still so many movies to come.

kaiielle

Excited to get there when I do!

kaiielle

This is one of my favorites in the MCU. According to Rotten Tomato scores, it's also a top ten among fans. GotG Vol 2 is also a very good film, in my opinion.

MotoDork

Sterling reaction, as usual, KL. I was not that surprised by your disdain, based on your previous reactions to MCU humor. I've always regarded this as a bit of comic relief after the previous film. I'm confident that you'll digest the valuable parts in time. Howard the Duck is a silly MCU character that had an underwhelming film in the mid 80s. Looking forward to your thoughts on the second Guardians entry.

Jim Schmitz

It was pretty overwhelming, but I know there are more Guardians movies to come, so we'll see how the rest land for me. AND we'll also see how I feel through editing this as well.

kaiielle

Name vomit is an issue in this movie, and I get why they had to do it, but you are very right that they throw a lot at you in a very short order. I hope you enjoy the other MCU movies coming up more.

The Dingo

I was surprised too, but then when I think back she didn't laugh at a lot of the jokes that I found funny, so I shouldn't be surprised. This movie is a departure from the rest of the MCU - big tonal shift just like Winter Soldier was, but in a different way.

The Dingo

Loved the reaction! Super surprised to hear it was your least favorite, you def didn't let it show through in the reaction itself. 🤣 This is def a LOT of peoples favorite Marvel movie, but for sure the humor is different from the previous movies, and won't hit for everyone.

Melody Dia

Looking forward to watching this tonight!
