After editing, my feelings around this movie didn't change all that much. I definitely have a much clearer understanding of the story and I feel a bit better about the soundtrack, but I still hold my main opinions that I had immediately after watching.

2023-02-21 15:41:39 +0000 UTCJust caught up with this reaction… For me, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY reminded me of one thing, STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE. It felt very much to me like an update of the rag-tag sensibility of 70s Star Wars. In that way, I think the soundtrack of songs of that period added to my enjoyment. That said, being a Marvel comics nerd definitely helped going in. Knowing who Ronan is. Knowing who the Kree are. Knowing who Thanos is. Knowing what the Infinity Stones are. Even knowing who The Collector and Howard The Duck are. That’s all well helpful when you see GOTG for the first time. For me, the first Guardians movie is good, fun, and good fun. It’s not A Great Movie for me — CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is — but it’s a serviceable chapter in the overall book of the MCU.
