The Mandalorian: The Gunslinger [1x05] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Comments

Oh if that was in KOTOR it's not something I remember! That's so interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I love how clueless Mando is sometimes about raising the Child. A tough and not very social Mandalorian being forced into the role of a parent is a pretty hillarious thought, He has a lot to learn, but he cares a lot for the Child. And about the Sand People, I am not sure if it came up somewhere in KOTOR or I know it from SWTOR, but in Legends, the Jawas and the Tuscan Raiders were once one species, before the Rakatans bombarded the whole planet turning it into the desert planet we know. After the bombardement, the survivors split and evolved into the two native species of Tatooine.

Completely agree with you! That was really nice to see.

One thing I really loved about this episode was showing a different POV of the Tuscans. I feel like up until this point we've only seen them from a biased standpoint, usually from Tatooine locals. I enjoyed seeing how they are reasonable people once they are given respect by outsiders and how they were willingly to trade for safe travels through their lands. It goes to show that it isn't always best to judge people by how they are seen by one group of people. Excited to keep watching your reactions to this.

I caught the Corellia thing too, just didn't say anything. I should have LOL. I still like Fennec too!

kaiielle

Yes, that is exactly where Han sat in ANH and that character said he was from Corellia, Hans home planet. I actually never caught that until this watch through. I love Peli! Such a great character, adding the humor. She’s played by Amy Sedaris. I know her from Starngers with Candy, amazing show. I think that’s were Stephen Colbert got his start years ago. Love that this episode shows that Tuscan Raiders can be negotiated with. It humanizes them in a way. Even though she failed to capture Omega, Fenic is still a badass in my book.

I love that they used the same droid, that's awesome! Yeah, seeing a live action Fennec was great for me having done all this in timeline order. Gives me a backwards experience compared to most of you who watched in release order, but that's okay!

kaiielle

Yeah this is a great example of where the things I say because of my watch order choice will be different from most of you. This is like the opposite of me meeting Kanan first as Caleb in Ep 1 of The Bad Batch, when that was a flashback for you all. And this is me already knowing Fennec when this was all your first time seeing her. ☺️ Makes for a fun time I think!

Find it interesting how Season 1 Episode 5 directed by Dave (Also his first live action role as director) is regarded as one of the weaker episodes of Season 1 while Season 2 has an episode also directed by Dave that is regarded as one of the best episodes in the whole series. I actually enjoyed EP5 for the most part minus the gunslinger character. Seeing Mos Eisley again was a blast with Mark Hamill even voicing the droid bar keeper, big change from the whole "No Droids" bar we saw in A New Hope. Also love the small appearance of R5-D4 the droid Jawas attempted to sell to Owen Lars, but R5 purposely malfunctioned his motivator so that Lars could purchase R2-D2. Pretty much he's a hero of the rebellion without even knowing so I'm happy this episode confirmed that R5 is still around. And of course Fennec Shand who was introduced in this episode but you of course met her in Bad Batch. Ming-Na Wen also voiced Fennec as well in the show so it's cool that you're meeting her in live action here.

I'm not sure if you realised this, it wasn't clear from your reaction, but in terms of release order this was where Fennec Shand was introduced. I instantly liked her character at the time just because I already liked her actress.
