The Mandalorian: Guns For Hire [3x06] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Hey all! Here's the next episode of Mando for you. I neglected to mention this in my thoughts section during/after the credits because I actually didn't consider this until the video was already exporting. This episode felt like a side quest to me, like from a video game. I think it was my mentioning Mass Effect during this reaction that probably made me think of that. 😂 [Direct link here.]

Looking forward to your comments! Thanks for watching.

Also sorry I had to put myself over Grogu in the thumbnail. 😢

Cheers,

I have played Andromeda and I enjoyed it! Not as much as the trilogy though.

Yes very sidequestable episode... Anyways i completed all ME games but not the third game it crashed weirdly and i lost all the saves... can't remeber how it actually happened, but it really sucked. You spoke of trilogy have you not played 4th game. I think it was very good despite many people thought it's bad.

i was so psyched they were delving into droid culture.. but then, ugh. star wars just cannot get their droid personhood stuff right. "that droid attacked us and then ran away! after din physically assaulted it several times! they're out of control!" and even worse still.. "we droids like being slaves. it's the least we can do." and mentioning that organic life spans are so short compared to them. since when? we see modern droids scrapped or in junk yards all the time. their deaths are usually played for laughs. r2 and chopper are notable exceptions in regards to getting their memories wiped routinely. they're slaves, and star wars still just doesn't know how to handle that fact. hopefully one day they'll do better with it..

Yes, I knew about Jack and Lizzo but had no idea about Chris! Such a great surprise. Agree with you on the lush and prosperous planet. It was fun to see so many aliens together having a fun lunch/dinner and everyone all dressed up and seemingly just having a good time.

I remember the first thing that popped into my head the first time I saw Grogu getting knighted was "Hence forth you shall be known as Ser Grogu - The Adorable" (in a sort of Revenge of the Sith / GoT / Holy Grail mix sort of way 🤪) Good thing you at least got the surprize of seeong "The Doc" without already knowing he was in this series. I quite enjoyed this episode, as it gives a lighthearted break from everything. Just some fun and goofy side quest. We had lots of those in Clone Wars so I don't see what's wrong with having them here. Also, it's nice to see a lush and seemingly prosperous planet in the outer rim, which previously have mostly portrayed lawless or somewhat impoverished worlds

A lot, a lot, a loooot of people don't like this episode because 1) filler and 2) the celeb cameos. However I loved it! It felt a lot like a clone wars episode, it was fun which gave a nice storytelling rest before the big end of the season and I think putting the distracting celebrities (lizzo, jack black) in a flamboyant environment lessened their distracting qualities-- because everything about that party was a lot (in a cool, fun way I thought). I thought it was so cute that Grogu stayed with the Duchess for food and he was cheating for her haha. I think also having all the celeb cameos in one episode slightly filler episode was a good call also so it's not overshadowing the rest of the bigger story of the season. I agree this "mandalorian" focus is definitely Bo. I think it's kinda cool shift tbh, the previous main character still having tons of input, still being kinda the person we are following, but being more Side Kick. Kinda like Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes almost-- John watson was the narrator, we followed him, but the main focus was definitely Sherlock. I loved the duchess's holographic dress train thing. That seemed like a really cool and fun society to have a vacation in and I would 100% go there. I really thought that bringing in the Amnesty Rehabilitation thing for Jack Black's character built on previous world building we saw in the Dr. Pershing episode and it was fun getting a glimpse of droid thought and culture.

Kinda filler-y, but more time with Din and Bo and their relationship and teamwork and now that I think about it, this episode wasn't really all that different from the numerous "filler" episodes we get in Clone Wars or Rebels!

kaiielle

I thought the episode was weird to me. The Bo-Katan fight at the end was sic. Seems like a filler episode.

Perry Campbell

This episode got a lot of flack for being unimportant, but I disagree, because you get to see the different skills of Din and Bo-Katan. They learn from each other in this episode.
