The Mandalorian: The Return [3x08] โœฆ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Hello everyone! Here we are at the finale of Season 3 of The Mandalorian! [Direct link here.]

I am officially caught up now! ๐Ÿฅณ And oh gosh, the relief I feel LOL. These past two weeks were a lot for me making sure I got everything watched just in time for Ahsoka and I won't lie, I'm pretty tired. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I don't think I've watched this much TV in this short of a time frame since I binge-watched Game of Thrones in 2018, where I watched all 7 seasons - 67 episodes - in three weeks. ๐Ÿ˜†

Now that I'm all caught up with the primary/main Star Wars shows, I'll be creating and sharing an Insiders schedule for you all which will begin next week. With the exception of my reaction to El Camino, I'm taking the rest of this week off from Insiders reactions. There's lots for you to watch before I put out anything new anyway since I feel confident that most of you are not binge-watching through these episodes as quickly as I'm releasing them. I am very much looking forward to going back to a more manageable pace with what I do here on Patreon and for my channels. I really need to get back into my gaming content for kale plays as well now that summer is coming to an end up here.

Please enjoy this! I'm looking forward to discussing this season and the show as a whole with you all.

Thanks for being awesome!

The Mandalorian: The Return [3x08] โœฆ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Interesting opinion here and I don't really disagree! I think now that Bo-Katan has experienced the most ancestral way of The Mandalorians, I personally feel like she's up for continuing to follow that way of life.

small thought among plenty of others i have about this episode, but it's probably a good thing the dark saber is broken (assuming it doesn't just get fixed next time). it's a very cool weapon with interesting lore, but it's been a macguffin for long enough at this point. and it kinda symbolizes the mando culture's idiocy really. they put all their stock into who will lead them based on who can beat up who and manage to hold onto an old sword. doesn't matter if they're qualified, have tried and failed before, or even liked. reminds me of black panther, actually. this advanced society decides their leadership in a hand to hand death match. just cause something is tradition doesn't mean it still makes sense, or ever did for that matter.

I think part of the "underwhelming" reaction to this season was a combination of hype, hope (coming after boba fett, solo, etc.) and that some people wanted it to be about Dinn and couldn't figure out who the main character was. I didn't think it was bad by any means, but I don't know if it lived up to season 2 which is a high bar. Some of the complaints I've seen are from people that didn't watch animated shows or openly said they were confused about who the "main" character was. This season definitely had more of a shift from Dinn/Grogu to "mandalorians" as main characters so I think it threw people off. Also the Pershing episode really threw people off.

Thanks for sharing all your thoughts on this! I def agree with a lot of it, and you're right it does feel like a trilogy! Oh my gosh, riding a Mythosaur would be legendary! Reaction channels, yes! So many, to be honest. Because I've become friends with a lot of them. I am gonna miss some people so this list is a mix of who I'm friends with and who I enjoy watching. As most people know, I moderate for Cassie from Popcorn in Bed and was able to meet her and her husband at the start of the month. Cassie and I are doing two collabs very soon too. The reactions of hers I'm able to watch are fantastic and her and her husband are very lovely people. Will always recommend her channel. The reactors I knew through Twitch before we started our reaction channels: - SoEverdream - him and I have been best friends since early 2020 and we've been able to meet and hang out for two weeks (late 2021) - MikeyVenture - we were on a Twitch team together with SoEverdream - TinyShark Reacts - she was on that same Twitch team with us - Verowak Reacts - Hollyreacts Reactors who I make time to watch (F beside their name indicates that I've established a bit of a friendship with them): - Blind Wave - Reel Rejects - Nikki & Steven Reacts - CineBinge - OGB Reacts (F) - Lethal Weapon 2/3/4 is still coming! Sam is getting close to making her return to reactions - EOM Reacts (F) - Awkward Ashleigh (F) - MovieFusion (F) - he just finished Game of Thrones and will be starting HotD soon - Sofa & Chill (F) - Kev just started Game of Thrones and he's only 6 episodes in and so far he's gearing to be my favourite reactor to the series. He does a lot of reactions with his son to Star Wars, Harry Potter and more - WatchMeMovie (F) - he's just returned from a 10-11 month hiatus because of university so I'm excited to see what he watches This is not a complete list. I will often watch other channels more sporadically, like Shanelle Riccio, Mary Cherry, Movies with Mary, Natalie Gold, VKunia, Badd Medicine, and the list goes on. I'm also close friends with other reactors who I haven't listed here because they react to too many things that I haven't seen myself. Some reactors that I talk to on a very regular basis: - Relax with J & C - Run to the Movies - reverseBLT - Awesome US Movies - Timothee Reacts - Diegesis - fwci etc. I think that covers it!

This is so considerate of you! I am so excited for Ahoska!

During this rewatch of all the seasons, it's my honest opinion that this season is just as strong as the previous seasons. It's different than the previous two, but different does not make it weak. It could be there was a bit of Star Wars TV fatigue about this time, because of Kenobi and Andor being also released, whereas seasons 1+2 were the only tv shows when they came out. I agree about the Pershing episode, it is a lot more boring on a rewatch (I might have, ahem, dozed a bit). I read something once that said that these 3 seasons were like the first trilogy, which is why that last scene at the cabin had that circle focus on Din and Grogu at the cabin. So the reclaiming of Mandalore and Grogu becoming an Apprentice with the defeat of Gideon, ended this arc. Like 3 books. I'm super curious to see the next trilogy (which I hope will be made!) but I think how they ended it, wrapped up a lot of the threads that were introduced, really left it nicely so even if we didn't get any more I am NOT disappointed at all. Unlike some shows which are hurried wrapped up because of cancellation, this just is so nice to find something that told a whole story. I wonder if there would be a time jump in Season 4, maybe Grogu speaking? I think the elimination of the Dark Saber will potentially make Mandalore stronger, since they aren't fighting over a JEDI (basically, since the guy who built it was a Jedi) artifact. A theory that is kinda cool to contemplate is the Mythosaur myth the Armorer talks about, where a mandalorian will ride the Mythosaur to usher in the new age of Mandalore. Grogu DEFINITELY sensed it below when he looked in the water; and he's now technically not just a foundling, but well on his way to become a Mandalorian fully as an apprentice. He could for sure use the force to calm the Mythosaur to ride it probably. I wonder if that will be part of the bigger plot of the next trilogy. This was so fun to watch with you!! Thank you <3 P.S. Oh! Do you have any reaction channels you recommend and enjoy a lot?

Oh gosh that makes way more sense haha I was definitely treating the title like Gideon's spies!!

kaiielle

Happy for you finally be ready for Ahsoka. Havent said anything about Season 3 cause it always feels not good to criticize something others like and enjoy even if S3 would make it easy. Honestly, im glad you enjoyed it. Lets just hope Dave Filoni does a better job with Ahsoka. Cant wait for your reactions. Take care and stay amazing.

Curaitis

What a great finale, non stop action!!! You can tell they spent a lot of money on it. You can tell Grogu getting stronger. He can wield the force and not fall asleep lol Love it!!!!!

So the title The Spies was an old use of the word. Jon Favreau is Jewish from his mother and the Mandos retaking their home this season had a lot of paralleles with the Jewish people leaving Egypt to go to the promise land. It started in episode 1 on the green piece of crystal Mando brings to the Armorer, there is a Bible verse written on it about exactly that. In the Bible, the Jewish people sent 12 spies to scout the land in advance of their arrival. Bo Katan assembled a party of 12 Mandos in Chapter 23, those where the Spies ( aka scouts. )
