It’s Batman as nihilist nightmare and that’s cool. Now, BATMAN RETURNS is not the best Batman movie, period. That honor goes to BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM from 1993, based on Batman: The Animated Series, which is the best version of the characters ever created, including the comics.
