I definitely understand the use of the word "underwhelmed" as your feelings towards this as a finale. I think it's a very valid statement about this being a series that we're all watching for the first time as it is being put out without having a particular outlook towards a renewed season nor how much of it will be continued into the future film. For me, it was at episode 6 when I fully came to look at this season as something that was never meant to be fully wrapped up within 8 episodes. Through that lens, I fully appreciated and loved how it ended up as a whole, though of course I do have a few of my own critiques throughout. But overall, for me, this season has set up these characters well for the next big fight to come, which very clearly is meant to happen in a following season or film.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah I'm 50/50 on whether Morgan is actually dead or not. Wait and see!

I loved this episode!!!!!! It was my second favorite 🀩. Everyone can’t like the same thing, it would be a boring world πŸ˜‚. No way Morgan is dead. No one gets killed in the stomach on this show. Plus what’s the use having Witch powers and not coming back from the dead. I still loved your reaction!!!!!!😍😍😍😍

Thanks for sharing! Totally understand where you're coming from. To your point about the dialogue, the dialogue in Rebels was waaaay better than anything we got in this show. But animation is an entirely different medium altogether, so the way the dialogue has to be spoken is different than live-action. My main gripe about the dialogue is more about the hugely unnecessary pauses really. Dragging out conversations for literally no reason. I love that this show has adjusted your opinion of Anakin. The prequels were enough to do that for me.. feel bad for him and his downfall instead of look at him straight as a villain. Clone Wars added even more oomph to it because Clone Wars showed us so much of Anakin's good and competence also. Plus all the moments with Padme and showing their relationship was realy sweet. That one Tales of the Jedi episode is very good. I don't think you're in the minority. I've seen some other reactions and some polls and such and I've seen opinions on Twitter. A lot of people love this show. Heck even with my criticisms, I love this show too! I would rewatch this before rewatching Mandalorian or Book of Boba Fett.

Interesting! I am all for a recast of him too and I hope that happens. Thanks for watching! 😊

Completely agreed!

OK, here's my impressions, mainly referring to your points first. The absence of Baylon and Shin in this finale did not bother me because I didn't think their stories would be wrapped up in any way here. There was so much only hinted at about both of them that I did not expect their stories to be revealed here. I did expect that to be the bigger focus next season (because I thought there's too much unsaid that needs to be told that a movie wouldn't be enough). So, I was perfectly fine with the idea that this is bigger, and less immediate, than what needs to be shown here. After all is said and done about the season, I see that the main focus of it was to find Ezra and bring him back. Thrawn is the overall big threat, but that wasn't going to be tackled this season, only him coming back. We got more extraneous stuff with the Witches and Baylon, which is great new(er) stuff and I look forward to more. That setting up for another season is good for me. Sabine-I thought of Sabine most of this season as being blocked from feeling the Force, not that she didn't have the capability or anything and that losing her family and Ezra is what kept that block, along with Ahsoka walking away from her training (which now Huyang explaining it makes complete sense and I think was a good thing Ahsoka did at the time). I think Sabine was probably too filled with anger at the time and wasn't ready to unlock her connection to the Force and if she did, it probably would be all dark side. I think Ahsoka coming back, showing faith in her and finding Ezra all helped to give her a better/more optimistic outlook which helped to unlock her connection. That being said, I don't know if a person needs to build up their Force wielding or if it's more about an understanding. So, I'm not going to say that she couldn't do that Force push because from all the things I remember from Jedi and especially Yoda, it's about believing/knowing you can do something that allows you being able to do something with the Force. "Size matters not." Her emotional attachment to Ezra probably helped to keep her from dropping him. Ahsoka's lightsaber battles-I don't know if it was intentional or an oversight, but watching the series and her appearances on The Mandalorian, it always felt to me that she uses about as much effort as she feels is necessary and not much more. Sometimes she calculates it wrong (like using one lightsaber against Baylon the first time), but most times not. Sometimes she decides she doesn't need one at all to deal with her foe. I felt the sort of lackadaisical use of the lightsabers against the Night Troopers was showing that they're not that difficult for a Jedi to deal with. Again, that's how I saw it throughout the series. The dialogue, I didn't find particularly cringey. I felt most of S1 of "Rebels" was cringey in dialogue. It's why I stopped watching it after a couple of episodes when it first came out and didn't pick it back up and finish it until after it was completed, sometime during S2 of The Mandalorian 'cause a lot of reactors kept mentioning Ezra. That being said, it seemed pretty on par with most Star Wars stuff. I never compare anything with Andor 'cause NOTHING is Andor except Andor. I definitely don't expect all the different SW stuff to be uniform in their storytelling and tone. I treat them all pretty separately. Granted, this was pretty much Rebels S5, so I was relating it and it's storytelling and tone to that and it lined up really well for that, I think. Now, my views over all on the finale and series, I have to say that I may be in the minority, but I was never as emotionally invested in Anakin as a LOT of SW fans. I always had a hard time separating him from Vader. Since I saw the original trilogy as a kid, he was always a villain to me. I didn't even think of him as a tragic villain until the prequel trilogy, but I still didn't get emotional at his downfall in "Revenge of the Sith," which I know a lot of people feel emotional about. I more had a view of "Man, what a shame." But, this series totally changed that for me. I've felt more emotion about Anakin in this series than all the nine movies combined AND Clone Wars. It's like this put all that into perspective for me. After the 5th episode and rewatching it and understanding what Ahsoka was going through/living with this whole time since the Clone Wars (and her tragic confrontation with him in Rebels which did make me feel awful for her about how guilty she must've felt) and the perspective of Anakin trying to teach her that he's more than just his downfall and so is she, that hit me pretty hard. I started tearing up in the last episode when she was training with his recordings again and her saying out loud, "He was a good master." Everything he became as Vader has nothing to do with everything he taught her as her master, so yes, she can separate that and know that he WAS a good master. That "Tales of the Jedi" episode really drove that home also. She wouldn't be alive today if he wasn't as good a teacher and it's exactly what he set out to do with her. In this finale, I teared up a couple of times. One, when she told Sabine about how he always stood by her, even when no one else did. The other was at the end with his Force ghost looking over her in an approving way and that makes me outright cry on subsequent viewings from the first time. So, sorry this was so long, but I think I may be in the minority, if these comments are any indication, because I REALLY liked this series and all of the criticisms others have are not criticisms for me. They're not even nitpicks because I can see the explanations for pretty much all of them. I did have a feeling that some would have a problem with Sabine unblocking her connection to the Force. I was like "Oh, I can tell, some people are gonna have complaints about that," but I can see it in the storytelling.

I share some of your frustrations about the structure of this finale. That said I want to share some info that was leaked online just after Ray Stevenson's death and I think it is true now that the finale happened. I don't believe the show was change in any way after Ray's passing because the leakers posted immediately that it was going to be an issue as Dave had big plans for his character going forward and nothing was revolved in the last episode and we were only going to get a tease of what is to come. This show needs a season 2, I will feel better about it when it will be official. I am also all for a recast of Baylan. Hard shoes to fill because Ray was awesome, but the story is too good to not tell. I also trust Shin will be important in those plans. I had fun watching this season, thanks for all the reactions and the honest review.

ditto to your review overall k, i think the show had a lot of good but with some underwhelming-ness by the end. i think it really comes down to how transitionary this whole season turned out to be, which in hindsight should have been obvious. transitioning animated characters to live action, closing the loop on rebels, wrapping up ahsoka's emotional journey in some respects.. but also clearly setting up a bigger story to come with major unfinished threads. we had hintings that lead to some wild fan theories that may still be true but didn't quite materialize as well. the planet ended up being kinda dull too, just a barren wasteland, visually. going to another galaxy should have a bit more spectacle. (even though other galaxies are just full of other planets, to be fair!) and we don't really have confirmation on what's next. season 2? movie? both? how long between those and until them, etc. the standoff between thrawn and our characters until he was ready to dip wound up being a bit awkward too. like, just send your whole force after ezra and you would have beaten him, or if he's no threat and you can't spare resources, just hunker down at your giant fortress and destroyer with your whole force defending and they won't get past. and they were both there for years, etc.. it just doesn't add up that well logistically. and then there's a room full of zombie troopers and three people with lightsabers.. but no limb hacking somehow, even by accident? they can't get too violent i know, but still.. all that being said, the journey was exciting. they nailed the live action characters imo, i love these versions now just as much as their animated counterparts. between the on and off screen character arc, plus natasha's portrayal, sabine has jumped way up to being my 2nd or 3rd fave sw character. the character development was there for everybody. and i enjoyed the samurai and fantasy genre influences a lot. it honored a lot of what came before really well and opened fun new doors going forward. so i'm pretty happy with it despite some shaky plot specifics and i think it'll sit better when we can connect all the dots to future projects.

Bahahahaha true that. The fight between Ahsoka and Morgan was awesome! I love wide shot fights.

Please do not post at length about Abeloth/the Mother. I have a bunch of Legends books that I will be reading well before we get the next Dave Filoni live-action to continue this story. Thank you! πŸ’™πŸ§‘πŸ€

I 100% believe its abeloth now

If the statues is an indication that this planet has a strong connection to the Mortis gods, it might be a reason in itself for Ahsoka to stay here for a while. Alternatively if this is where the Mother is located, things could get really tense. In general I really enjoyed the show. I do agree with your criticism, however it didn't really detract from my enjoyment of the show overall. Andor was something special, but I didn't exactly fall in love with the SW franchise back in the days, because of good dialogue (something something about sand comes to mind) πŸ˜‚ Sabine tried to force push Shin back on Seatos and I believe she has had enough training in the past that she knows exactly how to do it, but not being open to the force in the past means that she has never been able to actually do it. Once she managed to pull her lightsaber for the first time, she knew the rest. It is still an insane step up to do the force push just after, especially risking the life of her closest friend in the belief that she could do it... But... There is no try (which she made a callback to when Ahsoka asked if she had kept up with her training. "I try... I do"). Looking forward to seeing what's to come in the future.

Such a fantastic finale. Character arcs--check; Thrawn badassery--check; all around awesomeness--check; but that fight between Ahsoka and Morgan...holy shit balls! Can't wait for Rebels season 6--er, I mean Ahsoka season 2!
