Better Call Saul: Marco [1x10] ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction & Review

Welcome to the Season 1 finale! What a great start to this show. I talk about this a bit in the review, but this season felt VERY establishing and lore developing in a way. Nothing crazy happened, but we got a chance to really understand these characters before things hit the fan. [Direct link here.]

Looking forward to the discussions! Thanks for watching!

Better Call Saul: Marco [1x10] ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction & Review

Comments

Let me make an odd argument. Marco is the spiritual center of what becomes Saul Goodman. But not in a bad way. In the "godforsaken hellscape" which is modern society (or however Jimmy described what he saw out the window), full of brothers who betray, friends who screw your wife, and psycho gangsters who'd break your legs for mere verbal insults, Marco is the figure from childhood who never betrays or threatens. He'd die for you. He is the embodiment of unconditional love wrapped up in a funny friend who wants nothing other than to get back at a society which is cold, calculating, and terrifying. And to do it with his dearest friend ever. In this light, Marco and Jimmy's little scams, in a sense, merely expose the corruption rampant in the world, and get some beer money and laughs to boot. When Jimmy fiddles with the pinky ring, he's feeling this in his gut. He's feeling a loyalty to the high morality of simply being a pure friend in the face of the madness of our world. It's a beautiful cynicism. --Or something like that.

Also you noticed every episode title ended with an O but one. Jello was going to be that one but the rights to use the name was to expensive

I do read comments on older posts! ☺️ Thanks for the Easter Egg! Cheers

Don't know if you read comments that are posted this late but here goes. Easter Egg time. In BB when Walt and Saul were in Saul's car looking to buy the car wash to launder his money. They were also talking about needing a "Danny" to run it. Saul mentioned to Walt he once convinced a girl to sleep with him because he was Kevin Costner. The way they intertwin the 2 shows is flawless. Fun reactions take care

There are gonna be so many little things that I don't remember from Breaking Bad that re-appear in this show LOL I'm grateful I have all of you to help point them out.

Yeah Marco was already in poor health when Jimmy came back. It makes sense he was so desperate for action. Oh, and the Kevin Costner bit is a call back to breaking bad when he said he made someone believe he was Kevin Costner. "If you build it, I will come" is a reference to the movie "Field of Dreams." Funnier by a mile although that certainly wouldn't work in the context of the film. haha
