Comments

You may or may not have noticed that I didn't exactly keep up with trying to leave a comment for every episode. Turns out I have much fewer interesting things to say about this show on a rewatch than I thought I would so my comments were getting pretty repetitive. I think I'll stick to leaving comments if I actually have something to say that, in essence, goes beyond "This is a really good show" lol. That said, this episode always feels like my least favourite of S1, and I'm not sure why, it's not objectively worse than some other S1 episodes. Maybe it's just got to do with how drastically it shifts in tone from the last episode. Who knows! Anyway, loving these reactions, and there's a ton of good stuff ahead that I'm excited for.

Lots of secrets, very secretive!

Thanks for clarifying the meaning of Coulson's "No"!

kaiielle

A good balance of that is always appreciated!

That's fun! And you're right, the May/Ward fight definitely felt a bit more polished from what we've seen so far. I didn't realize until reading your comment, thank you!

Hey Thadman! If you're on Windows on your PC/laptop, you can press the Windows Key + ; to open up an emoji-menu, and express yourself! 👍 With regards to Project Pegasus; That's not actually a reference to Captain Marvel, it's a reference to the opening scene in The Avengers (2012), which also took place at the joint SHIELD / NASA facility at Project Pegasus. But, like you, I'd like to think Skye was talking about the old event from 1995, just because Coulson was there then as well. 😅

Loving these reactions. Thanks again for doing this show. Definitely my all-time favorite comic book show and that's sayin' a lot considering how many really good shows there have been. You may want to tamp your theorizing until after the characters finish speaking since you may miss hints, clues and actual explanations to what you're theorizing about. If you do miss them though, you know we'll be here to inform you what you missed. :-D (doing this one my PC/laptop so no emojis) When Sif was naming the different alien races that are blue that she knew of, I'm pretty sure one or two of them were the races of Yondu and Nebula because I don't think they were Kree in the comics. It's never said in the movies what they are, because it doesn't matter to their stories at the moment. For some reason though, the one she mentioned, Centaurians, sounds familiar. Anyway, this was just a useless tidbit to say that the show was making comic book references. They did make a reference in the first episode of the show of something the MCU would not pay off until YEARS later which was Project Pegasus. Skye mentioned it when SHIELD first picked her up as something she'd uncovered that SHIELD has kept hidden.

We have reached the end of the beginning literally. This story has so much questions that need answers and it's time to start answering them. Something interesting to think about. Lorelei used loki's secret portals out of Asgard. At this point in Asgard Loki is actually Odin and he tasked sif to get Lorelei most likely to get her away from Asgard while he rules as she is probably the closest to Thor and would suspect him if she stayed to long near the throne. He most likely released Lorelei to earth as a distraction and he picked someone sif would definitely go after. The show and the movies don't focus on this but it makes the most sense for Loki to do. When Coulson said we are going after the person he means the Clairevoyent because he ordered Quinn to shoot Skye and Quinn is already in shield prison. This episode is about following orders blindly and Coulson is tired of it. He wants to know everything that's going on but as we see at the end there are more secrets involved here.

Loving watching this show again with you...must...be...quiet...

Another fun one! Lady Sif showing up is a huge MCU connection of course! Agent Jasper Sitwell also makes another appearance. In your excitement you misinterpreted what was being said between Skye and Coulson at the end there; Skye asked: " 'Alien' as in 'unfamiliar'? " To which Coulson replied: " No. " The implication being he meant "alien" as in "extraterrestrial". You interpreted it as him saying it was an alien he was familiar with. That's not correct. The character of Lorelei is another one taken straight from the comics. She first appeared in a Thor comic back in the 1980's, and there too had the power to make men do what she desired. She actually ended up becoming a Valkyrie in the comics, and was the sister of Enchantress, a character they readapted in the MCU into Sylvie, the female Loki variant from the Loki show.

This is a fun episode to take the edge off the seriousness of the past few episodes that adds in a little infor on skys recovery and coulsons plans with her. Sometimes a show has to have a fun or out of place episode to break up seriousness of the story so its not all out in your face. I guess that makes sense.

IIRC, Clark Gregg bumped into Jaimie Alexander and asked if she would like to be on the show, so there was definitely some element of Lorelei being an excuse for Sif to show up. Having said that, there's still good moments that this episode provides - IMO, the May/Ward fight sequence is the first instance of a fight choreography 'set-piece' for the show, above what we've seen so far. I also like the music cues for Sif's arrival - evokes the feel of Asgard from the films, but in a new distinct way. Incidentally, I *love* the music in AoS - Bear McCreary wrote excellent music for the show, and had a full orchestra for every episode (which is exceedingly rare for a TV show). As for the timelines, you are correct that Guardians hasn't happened yet - it came out during S2. AoS starts some time after Iron Man 3, and Thor: The Dark World was immediately before 1x08 (The Well)
