Respectfully, what the fuck?! 😂 [Direct link here.]

A COUPLE THINGS BEFORE YOU DO, if you skip intro's and outro's:

Have fun! Thanks for watching! I haven't watched Episode 18 yet at the time of this being shared. Was too late for a back-to-back. Plus my brain is still REELING from the last two mins of this episode LOL.

Comments

your reaction to this episode is priceless. i have been waiting for you to get here all season. excited for the rest of the series!

Julian Calzada

Wellcome to the rest of the show hahaha. I loved this twist when the episode first came out. The first episodes made a lot of people drop the series, but this was an amazing payoff to the ones who stayed with it. Be ready because it only goes up from here. Each season is gonna be better than the ones before ;D

Loved the reaction. As other have said, there were hints along the way. The writers and show runners knew all along and left the clues. "The Centipede program is always one step ahead of us, they must have tremendous resources". Yep, it's SHIELD/HYDRA. Garrett in the last Episode when all the high level agents were on the plane, talking about Ward, "You wouldn't believe what I can talk this one into". Now we know. You noticed that May's seemingly odd or inconsistent behavior all season suddenly makes sense. Just know that we meant it when we said that nearly everything matters eventually. Not many throwaway lines. "Sitwell, you needed on the Lemurian Star". Bam, In Winter Soldier there he is on a ship. Straight from AOS to the movie. And then back to the show, where we see more of the ground level action / fallout from Hydra and the events of the movie. It's tied in real time with the events of the movie. Ending with "Captain America defeated the Helicarriers". At least at this point, this show should absolutely be considered canon. It adds so much to the Marvel universe. Glad you have taken to it. It just gets better now that they can really run instead of waiting around.

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah it all makes sense now! So stoked for more. And thanks for that little tidbit about the drones.

kaiielle

This episode does add a LOT more to Winter Soldier, can't wait to rewatch that one. It was already a top 3 MCU film for me, but probably even more so now.

kaiielle

Thank you!!!

kaiielle

I def did, it was like I personally felt betrayed. And right after a Skye kiss as well, like c'mon!!! You're right, people prob saw this without being able to make it to Winter Soldier first. I feel a bit better HAHA.

kaiielle

Stoked that you're stoked!

kaiielle

I genuinely walked out of Winter Soldier convinced that the Zola program was the Clairvoyant.

Adam Nelson

The post-credits scene of the last episode was the first part of the Fury SUV car chase.

Finally got to see youre reaction to one of the biggest WTF's reactions that we had when the show came out. the jaw drop of Ward at the end was a for sure WTF.... His acting is so good. Sitting here typing this while watching you thinking and pondering about Ward what to do and think about makes me smile just cause its such a great realistic reaction top notch I love it. makes a perfect valentines day a great reaction and a whole day to sleep after working all night lol

Chris Elkins

Poor Skye - last episode she becomes an official Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and then it immediately collapses (plus, her love interest is Hydra, not that she knows that). One thing I do find amusing about reactions to this episode is that *no-one* realises Ward is Hydra until after he shoots Agent Hand - the shock means it doesn't register that something is wrong when he kills the other two agents! So, yeah, pretty much everyone was aware that this episode was going to tie in to the movies - not only was the tag for the last episode a trailer for CA:TWS (hence no end scene), but AoS had been advertised as being a tie-in show since it was announced. This is also a big part of why AoS had a rather irritating release schedule throughout S1 - in order to ensure that this episode aired after CA:TWS it was necessary to put gaps in the schedule since the start/midseason breaks were at the traditional points of the year for a network show (this, along with the show's initial marketing creating unrealistic expectations of what the show would be, and the need to 'hold' the story to an extent until this episode really didn't help the show build its audience). Garrett listening to (Don't Fear) The Reaper at the beginning is a little joke - the S.H.I.E.L.D. drones sent after him are MQ-9 Reapers

Sean Ellingham

Yep. Just great big buckets of sloppy yep. (Psst...it just keeps getting better from here).

The winter soldier destroyed the premise of the show and made it 100% better. Shield is gone and Garrett and Ward are Hydra. The show needed this twist to really put us into the reality of what happened in winter soldier. 16 episodes bonding with a character in TV time so that the knife of betrayal effects us too along with coulson and the team. Yes Garrett said he switched sides so he was not always Hydra. The title Turn,Turn,Turn HAND TURNED Bad to good. GARRETT turned good to bad. Ward turn good to bad. There is foreshadowing of ward being hydra (I made a video that you can watch after you finish the season) but it is subtle because the actor was never told until around episode 15 or 16. One of the biggest is Lorelei the Asgardian spell was broken (necklace was on Lorelei before gun scene) during the ward may fight and his attempt to kill her was not because he was still under the spell but to get her out of the way while having that as a cover (This is never said in a show but it makes the most logical sense.)

Christopher simeon

this was the episode I was waiting for and your reaction did not disappoint

Disaster averted with you realizing the audio issue 7 minutes in. As you said, this would be the _worst_ episode for that to happen in! 😂 Just heart-ing a comment is perfect I think. Please don't feel pressure to reply to everyone, that's just unrealistic at the size of your Patreon. MCU (Winter Soldier) connections: - Fury "died" in the movie (everyone thinks he died), and thus also in this show. - In this episode we learn Fitz created a device called the Mouse Hole which can cut through anything to create a new exit, and Fury used that in Winter Soldier to escape the upturned SUV when Winter Soldier attacks him (and Hill uses it to escape the prisoner transport). - Agent Sitwell is mentioned again, with Garrett stating "Sitwell was in charge of filling your ranks, so at least some of you know what to do!" implying Sitwell added HYDRA agents to every tac team to ensure a smooth takeover by HYDRA. Winter Soldier is the movie where Sitwell has the biggest role. He is the first agent we get confirmed is HYDRA, he is interrogated by Steve, Black Widow, and Falcon (Widow throws him off the roof, Falcon catches him in the first reveal of his wings). He is the guy that reveals the info about Zola's Algorithm. Sitwell ultimately dies in the movie when Winter Soldier pulls him out of a moving car and into the path of an oncoming semi-truck... So we won't be seeing him again. Which I think is sad, I always enjoyed his sort-of weasely alternate version of Coulson. And some fun META info: When AoS was greenlit, the first day of the writers' room, they were told: "Oh yeah, we're going to get rid of S.H.I.E.L.D. in CA: Winter Soldier, so good luck writing your show around that." That must've been such a challenge, and the reason why the first half of season 1 feels a lot more like a procedural, as they were in a holding pattern for Winter Soldier to draw nearer.

Great reaction KL, Is it me or you had a really long "pissed of look" about Garrett? Not every one knew about H.Y.D.R.A, Winter Soldiers was release 4 days before this episode was aired. I already did a chronological re-watch after End Game. The heaviest part was alternating between Netflix shows LOL

Steve Graham

Most folks watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier right after Episode 16.

Rileymetal

Well, that was an episode. And an ending.

Yoshi1990

This week was INSANE when watching in real time lol. Episode 16 came out, then a few days later Winter Soldier came out, then this episode a few days after that. So it was just hit after hit. There were hints in ep 16 that it came before Winter Soldier — Sitwell saying he has to head off to the Lemurian Star, for instance, which was at the beginning of the movie. So this episode takes place concurrently with and a little after Winter Soldier. Also the Mousehole that Fitz mentions he created in this episode that allowed them to escape the plane was what both Fury and Hill used in the movie. But yeah, that Ward reveal? BLEW MY MIND. In the absolute worst way. Like you, I thought everything was fine because we already got the betrayal out of the way with Garrett and the episode was basically over. But nope!! This is where the show really shines, though, as a rewatch show. Knowing the twist now, you can look back and see in previous episodes that they definitely dropped breadcrumbs about Ward being HYDRA, but we just had no idea. Also, you shouldn't have to worry too much about forgetting a lot of movie stuff from here on in. To my recollection, the Winter Soldier tie-in was far and away the most direct and intensive. While the other movies certainly will affect the show down the line, it's more like what they did earlier this season rather than a monumental twist like this one was. Not a bad idea to rewatch your movie reactions anyway, of course.

Laurel

Tee hee hee! That is me...not containing my glee.
