X-Men (2000) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

It was so fun to revisit this as a completely different person compared to the child I was when I first saw it! Yes, this is technically not a first time viewing but I truly had no recollection of the story in this so I'm glad I decided to do a reaction to it instead of skipping over it. I thought my memory might come back as the movie progressed but NOPE haha. Child me only retained character looks and I don't blame child me because everyone in this movie is HOT AF OKAY. 🔥

Now that I'm walking away from this with a full understanding and investment in the X-Men, the mutants, the story, and the bread crumbs this movie drops for us to keep us eager for more, I am VERY HYPED!

If you'd rather watch on YouTube, click here.

Thanks so much for watching and looking forward to your comments! Please remember no spoilies or hints about the upcoming movies in the series!

Totally fair point! Thank you!

When you said you wondered what Magneto directed Mystique to do as Senator Kelly and that is something I never thought of exactly. I mean, I always assumed she did it on her own since Magneto got caught and they were of like minds, she just shifted to the cop to escape from Ellis Island and then, since the Senator wasn't known to be dead by anyone but the X-Men, she thought she'd be him and stop the bill that he was championing before. Mystique is smart and did live her life manipulating situations to get ahead. She's the perfect infiltrator which means she listens to give her the advantage when interacting with people. I don't think Magneto would have any way of contacting her within his prison anyway.

Thanks for watching! I really enjoy Xavier and Magneto as well. It helps that they're portrayed by two amazing men!

I grew up on X-Men comics and seeing this on the big screen was a big deal for me. Patrick Stewart is my only pick for Professor X. Hugh Jackman was a complete surprise but he did an outstanding job and will forever be Wolverine to me. I love the comic book costumes but that line about the "yellow spandex" just put me in my place XD Professor X and Magneto has been the pinnacle of adversaries for me. I really wish the MCU had more nuanced pairings like this. I'm not sure if you have Legion on your radar, but it might be a great series to explore way after you're done with the X-Men movies. Thanks for another great reaction video. Can't wait for the rest of watch-a-longs in the series!

Like many X-Men fans. I loved the 90's animated shows. I always used to try and fancast in my head which actors would be the best live action representation. I always pictured Wolverine/Logan as a Martin Riggs (Lethal Weapon) type. So back then I always thought Mel Gibson would make an awesome Wolverine. I also thought Angela Basset would've been perfect as Storm. As I'm sure most people thought so as well. Colossus does not make an appearance but back then I naturally thought he should be played by Arnold Schwarzenegger or Dolph Lundgren. I'm pretty sure most people couldn't imagine anyone but Patrick Stewart being Charles Xavier. The cast was got was pretty good for the most part but I always love to hear how other people would've casted the X-Men movie.

I too watched this movie as a child and I love it now just like I did back then. The X-Men especially Wolverine have been my favorite ever since the animated series so you can only imagine the excitement young me had knowing there was a movie coming out about them. Ian McKellen performance was so good it really mad me appreciate the villain side of the story, excited for your journey through this franchise

Been a long time since I've interacted with this franchise. I used to watch the cartton when I was a kid. Storm is my favorite, always has been.

So worth the wait!!! Loved it!!! It is awesome the way you appreciate movies from the early 2000’s. You view movies thru a lens of intelligence and common sense, it is very refreshing. IMHO, the X-Men/Mutants are the most relevant and relatable characters of any superhero story. We have all felt like a “mutant” at one point or another in our lives. It is incredibly grounded, and I really appreciate how real the abilities seem, and the way they highlight that having super powers can sometimes suck. It’s not all flashy tech and super soldiers, it’s mostly just scared kids who need a safe space to be themselves and guidance to help figure out how to deal with the changes their bodies and lives are going thru. As a youngster, I was all about Wolverine. I have always had an eye for the bad boys. Hugh Jackman is too tall to be Logan, who is 5 foot 4 inches in the comics and animated series, but it didn’t take the fandom long to forgive and forget, because he is so damn good! This was Hugh’s first movie role! Russell Crowe was approached, but couldn’t make it work, so he suggested his good friend Hugh Jackman, who had mostly done theatre and some television in Australia. We are all in debt to Russell Crowe for the last 20+ years of enjoying the beautiful and talented Mr. Jackman. So as a kid it was all about Logan for me, however as an adult watching the movies I developed a great appreciation for Magneto, and his complexity as a character. I especially enjoy the dynamic he and Charles have. One of my favorite scenes from a comic book movie is the end scene chess match. I love that they still call each other friend and have an unspoken respect and understanding for each other. Does the fact that the two Sirs, McKellen & Stewart, are so iconic, sexy, and master class thespians sway my opinion in their favor? Yes. Yes it does. But if being completely taken in by their swagger and skill is wrong, I don’t wanna be right 😜😆 It’s even better knowing what good friends they are in real life. Ian even officiated Patrick’s wedding in 2013. This was Stan Lee’s first theatrical Marvel cameo. He had popped up on the Incredible Hulk tv show, and been a guest star in Mallrats. He was supposed to have a cameo in Marvel’s Blade movie adaptation in 1998, but it was cut. So this became the first of many. I wondered if you would recognize Ray Park’s signature light saber/pipe twirling after he kicked Storm down the elevator shaft 😁 I could go on and on,the train station stand off, Scott & Logan, Mystique!!! the political and social commentary, ITS ALL SO GOOD!!! Can’t wait for X2 next month!!!

I got excited at work last night seeing this notification, I was like what is Kl doing up this late, then I realized you're 2-3 hours different than the east coast of the US lol. So I go home at breakfast and decided to do my first full movie watch along since I have my double pc setup now. Its very enjoyable not watching a movie by myself lol... the good ole single life. Have a great weekend thanks for all the content you provide :)

Chris Elkins

Love Jack & Sarah!

CheshireKat528

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me... 😜 The amount of 'Oh' moments were very enjoyable considering I went in thinking, Ok so you've seen this before. Patrick and Ian's voices are iconic. My first film of Ian's was a less known Brit RomCom Drama called Jack and Sarah. I wasn't a kid in 2000, but I'm also not sharing how old I was either. All I'll say is I could drive, drink, vote and sign up. 😁

Death Lego

YES! Can’t wait to watch along after work!!!
