It's Pollin' Time: Inspiration for Mr. Robot Edition
Added 2024-04-25 22:10:48 +0000 UTCI've mentioned here and there that Mr. Robot is my favourite TV series of all-time. Very dramatic, incredibly rewatchable, the score is perfection, the cinematography is fab, the acting is superb, the writing is chefs kiss. I could go on and on. I just recently finished doing a watch party of the whole show in my Discord server and I'm on my fourth watch now with James vs. Cinema who is doing reactions to it for his channel.
You all recommend movies and shows to me a ton and while I have a big list I could throw back at you as well, this will always be a #1 recommendation from me. 🥳
Big thank you to Tyler for letting me know that Sam Esmail (writer and creator of the show) has a Mr. Robot Companion List on his Letterboxd account and he has said that all of these influenced him when creating the show and it could be neat for a poll!
All of the options in Sam's list are in this poll except for: movies I've seen before, documentary-style films, foreign films, TV series and films that require a TV viewing before seeing it, and movies that are part of a series that I've already started reactions to.
Since there are so many options, this poll is not only MULTIPLE CHOICE, but I'm also opening it up to the public. Unfortunately YouTube only allows us to have 5 options max in a poll.
Please pick ALL of the movies you'd want to see a reaction to. Multiple choice polls are best when there's more votes.
This poll will end a week from today. ✌️
Happy Voting!

Everyone does Goodfellas and very few do Close clockwork. If you are looking for a movie that. Exemplifies the Hollywood studio system, then do Michael Clayton

2024-04-27 12:58:44 +0000 UTCIt's not on this list and there's no guarantee that you'll even watch the original yet (although I imagine anything hitting 40+ votes in this poll is a strong contender for the channel), but if you do watch Trainspotting (1996), I hope you also watch the sequel, T2 Trainspotting (2017), which for my money belongs in the top 10 of movies (and one show) that are part of the recent trend of "legacy sequels" made decades later (ala The Force Awakens). A really wonderful movie that was worth the wait and does a great job of skewering the aggressive nostalgia that makes so many of these sorts of movies feel like they're just reliving the past.

2024-04-26 16:04:40 +0000 UTCI was 18 when Pump Up the Volume came out. Saw it in the theater on opening weekend. Loved the film, and totally had a crush on Samantha Mathis afterwards.

2024-04-26 05:36:39 +0000 UTCThe Third Man is probably my favorite film of all time. This is a brilliant list though. Lots of great choices!

2024-04-26 05:29:16 +0000 UTCI actually think Pump Up the Volume and Hackers would make for a fantastic double feature. I wonder if you could figure out the theme I think they share.

2024-04-26 01:34:58 +0000 UTCIt really is Nathan, there is an incredible amount of content to watch. I’ve been consuming movies & tv shows constantly for well over a decade & my parents still have watched like 10x the amount of stuff I have. Bc they’ve had a lot more time to watch than me. 35 more years to watch to be more precise for example

2024-04-26 01:34:49 +0000 UTCIf I had looked at Sam's list shortly before turning 30, there'd have only been one "seen" movie on it for me.

2024-04-26 01:11:04 +0000 UTCIt's a good watch if you ever get a chance to see all 3 . I voted on Hackers for what ever reason I'll watch it when it's on . Lol

2024-04-26 01:03:28 +0000 UTCThat's not on Sam's list though! 😉

2024-04-26 00:31:22 +0000 UTCI would say the original trillogy of The girl with the dragon tattoo not the single remake american version

2024-04-25 23:55:31 +0000 UTCI'll second everyone else's sentiments in saying "wow, that's definitely a heck of a list!"

2024-04-25 23:53:59 +0000 UTCThis is one hell of a fucking list...three of my all-time top 10 favorite movies are on here, and the rest are solid gold. Have to go with A Clockwork Orange...Stanley Kubrick is my cinematic Buddha (also did Lolita on here), and this movie is, for me, second only to 2001: A Space Odyssey. But whatever. I'd gladly watch any one of these with you.

2024-04-25 23:30:19 +0000 UTCI’ve only ever seen goodfellas out of that entire list. Don’t roast me too hard I’m only 24

2024-04-25 23:17:35 +0000 UTCIn to praise Pump of the Volume too, great movie. My introduction to Mr. Slater as an actor.

2024-04-25 23:07:05 +0000 UTCPump up the Volume! Christian Slater’s best film in my opinion. My daughter watched it last and totally felt like it held up. It’s got my vote.

2024-04-25 22:46:43 +0000 UTCI saw it for the first time when Jen Murray did it. I was surprised I'd not seen it before, and that it hadn't really been on my radar at all.

2024-04-25 22:41:19 +0000 UTCI disagree. Fincher butchered DT. I'm glad he didn't finish. But I'm going to breathe and take a step back, and not start any arguments cause this is a real sore subject for me 😂

2024-04-25 22:26:07 +0000 UTC#JusticeForNoomiRapace 😂 😂 😂 The sad thing is, I can't tell you why even if the remake does win cause it'd spoil the original 😭 😂

2024-04-25 22:23:41 +0000 UTCThe remake would be ok -- if they had finished the trilogy.

2024-04-25 22:20:27 +0000 UTCI couldn't help but see a very young Christian Slater on that poster, so I'm already intrigued. His performance in Mr. Robot is fab.

2024-04-25 22:19:21 +0000 UTCOmg "Pump Up The Volume" all day long. Super under-viewed, super-underrated. One of my all-time favs, and super poignant considering our social media age, and this was before social media was a thing. Anyone who votes here should see it and check back on this poll.

2024-04-25 22:16:02 +0000 UTCMaybe one day. 😊

2024-04-25 22:15:50 +0000 UTCPS. I'm not necessarily going to watch *only* the winner. 😏

2024-04-25 22:14:22 +0000 UTCClock work orange, Goodfellas and Taxi Driver 👌😤

2024-04-25 22:14:17 +0000 UTCThe only Dragon Tattoo worth watching is the 2009 Swedish original.
