Superman (1978) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Hey everyone! Another "surprise" reaction kind of, sort of! This was my first request that came through my Reactr page, courtesy of Bryan Dempsey. Thank you Bryan!

I mention this in the intro, but the version I watched is the 2h23m version.

This will be edited for the channel eventually, just not sure when I will fit that in at the moment especially with my recent decision to edit Fallout for the channel. πŸ˜… But this will get on there maybe sometime in the summer! Please enjoy and I'm looking forward to your comments. ❀️ [Direct link here.]

Superman (1978) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Comments

I try my best to mention in both the intro of the video and in the post which version I'm watching if there are multiple versions. So sorry you ended up in a fuss with that! I'm glad you enjoyed the movie and reaction though! Cheers

Okay, so I just watched this full length watch alongβ€”it was a bit of a nightmare because I assumed you were watching the regular one and paid to rent it on amazon... sat down, and turns out you're watching the director's cut (I hate director's cut versions of anything)... so, I downloaded it "another way"... so that was all a pain and will teach me to read the blurb beforehand, entirely my fault... however... I haven't watched this film since I was a kid, and I was skeptical about how much I would enjoy it this time around. But it's brilliant. I can fully understand why this is the favorite film of the chap who recommended it. And your reaction was perfect! My reaction was exactly the same... and I've seen it before! It's obviously of its time and it has got 70s written all over it, but that's cool and you went with it. And my favorite line from your reaction was when the news paper editor was asking questions to his staff about superman, he said "does he have a girlfriend" and you went "Lois is like 'I fucking hope not'".

Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman belongs on the Mount Rushmore of superhero movies along with RDJ and Hugh Jackman. Still my favorite Superman movie ever. Part 2 is a must watch, especially the Donner cut!

FYI, Superman can't read minds. X-ray vision, super strength, flying, but not telepathy!

Tyler Foster

This is perhaps slightly less of a fun fact given the controversy surrounding him, but Superman Returns is also by Bryan Singer, the director of X-Men, X-Men 2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Gene Hackman is in several of my all-time favorite movies, including The Conversation and The French Connection. As such, he's one of the actors I have the most autographs from.

Tyler Foster

Interesting that you said Gene Hackman reminds you of Kevin Spacey since Spacey plays Lex Luther in Superman Returns (2006) lol I'd recommend that movie too, it isn't that bad. It takes place five years after Superman 2 (1980). Brandon Routh honestly does a great portrayal of Christopher Reeve's Superman

"Son, I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse..." - the literal God Father lol

Or when Hugh Jackman wore a Wolverine costume at a comic-con and someone went up to him and commented "too tall, dude"

Ah, the real superman movie. Not the wasted potential of Man of Steel. Human perseption is a powerful thing. People see what they want to see. A clumsy reporter is just a guy you work with. Superman is a hero. Just like the time Henry Cavill (superman) stood outside the theater when Super man vs Batman first came out. And no one reconzed him even though he was wearing a superman shirt.

Yoshi1990

And he also in turn was the voice of Jor-El in Smallville :) I love how active he stayed in the Superman franchise

Someone was checking up on your reactr page and jumped on the request as soon as it was open again? What a weirdo πŸ‘€

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Yes you should definitely react to at least Superman 2. Also General Zod (Terrance Stamp) was Supreme Chancellor Valorum in Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace

Thanks Bryan! Great that you have now seen a closer depiction to certain aspects of the character. Christopher is the only actor to fully commit to playing Clark as the mild mannered reporter, in the modern depictions, in my opinion. It's not much of a disguise in all honesty. So losing it, seemed like a why bother approach in those versions that followed. When the glasses are the only part left. It has seemed a shame to forget a staple of the character. Having Jonathan die from something Clark was unable to prevent is something they altered in Man of Steel. That never landed in the same way for me. This is that film that had us as kids button our coats at just the neck, or hang off our heads by just the hood, and wizz around the playground with our arms stretched out. Singing that iconic theme. Go on, you know you wanna now. We won't tell anyone. πŸ˜‰

ah the movie responsible for my adoption and name haha. Will enjoy the reaction this weekend.

Oh wow! Gracias! 🀘🏼

William

Please enjoy tonight! And yeah, I was really surprised. 😁

Super excited! Pun not intended, but acceptable. I’ve been out of town the last couple of days and look forward to watching the reaction this evening when I return home. And I love the fact the ReactR slot filled in so quickly, what a great compliment to your insightful response and commentary on movies. It’s in demand! πŸ˜†
