Jessica Jones: A.K.A. Smile [1x13] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Last night at work I was thinking, I have a theory about IGH. I think they trying to combine powers of special people an put it in pill form like what Simpson took. The reason why they paid for Jessica's hospital bills when she was a teenager was cause they got her blood and was able to add her abilities to their pill hence the super strength from the pills. This part might be far out but Jerri is part of it she keeps Killgraves fetus to try and get the powers from it, they didnt get it, which I thought was mentioned when Jessica called her and told her Killgrave got twice as strong due to it. In short IGH is gathering powers in pillform trying to make the perfect soilders and maybe they are the ones who also brought about Luke Cage as well.

Well I decided to wait till I saw all 13 episodes along with you to do my first comment. I really enjoyed my first watch along with you and you're rection very well done. As for the show and for all the Netflix shows it seems only fair to compare them to the Netflix shows alone due to the mature and sexual content that is allowed compared to the ABC shows. As far as story wise and character wise I give Daredevil the edge over Jessica Jones, but just slightly. Seems like every character has a flip of the coin darkside to them in this show you never know which one you'll going to get which is what made it so interesting. Jessica and Luke might be the only ones straight forward. Killgrave is a top tier villain you cant hate to like him just to hate him again, well played and acted for sure. Jessica and Lukes powers not fully explained I assume Lukes will be learned about more in his show, and I honestly think Jessica might be more along the line of mutant rather than enhanced by the IGH , kinda like from X-men comes out from teenage trauma ect. Speaking of IGH and Simpson I think they are their to hunt down and stop bad powered people like Killgrave thats why Simpson was like why didnt you ever kill him sooner. Maybe I'm wrong on part of that I might be confused lol but I do think they are looking for special/enhanced people. Like always thanks for the great content KL

Dead is dead, but I can't be alone in thinking that Kilgrave deserved something far more painful. Ripping his tongue out as previously threatened would have been poetic. After all the pain he caused, the fact that his death was essentially painless just is a very hard pill for me to swallow [then again, my fave of all characters ever to exist in this entire universe...and possibly ever... is the Punisher, so...that may be my internal Frank speaking ;) I cannot wait for you to meet him.] If I were you (and I'm not, obviously, and totally don't mean to step on toes if I'm crossing a line) I would prioritize editing at least Daredevil for YouTube...simply because I think with Born Again coming in March and all of the D23 conversations, there should be renewed interest and that could translate to more clicks for you. Do with that what you will...I don't have a reaction channel, so my suggestion could be totally wrong, but it makes sense in the soggy clump of electrified bacon that lives in my skull. It was awesome watching this through with you...now I'm gonna go vibrate in place while waiting for season 2 of Daredevil.

As to your thoughts on why Jessica didn't kill Kilgrave earlier...Jessica was trying to save Hope. She didn't actually get underway with her plan to kill Kilgrave until Hope killed herself...and told Jessica to kill him. Once saving Hope was no longer an option, Jessica was all in to killing him.

I'd forgotten a lot about this show. It was great fun re-experiencing it with you! I totally agree with you that this was a very strong finale, and a great show. A lot of the MCU shows drop the ball a bit in the finale, so this felt noticeably better. I haven't seen Jessica Jones Season 2, so I'm free to speculate without fear of spoilers. I think the IGH storyline was a set-up for season two, and maybe Simpson comes back and is the main bad guy? The actor did a great job and his character could totally come back changed even worse by the drugs. Killgrave was a phenomenal villain so whatever comes in for season two has big shoes to fill!

I don't know if I'll like any other season more than S1. The mind control aspect really entertained me. At least I've got a long time to find out the answer. So many new TV shows to watch. I never thought I'd be watching so many new TV shos when I joined your patreon.

Claire is essentially the Coulson of the street heroes in my eyes. Only difference is, Fury didn't send her, she just has bad luck, or really good luck depending on how you look at it. Rosario Dawson literally has done it all. Healthcare worker, Jedi, assassin, love-interest... she's an awesome actress. "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" doesn't specify am or pm so... Jessica's not weird, expectant societal rules are weird lol Jessica and Luke's story is so tragic. She carries so much guilt for what she did and she let herself feel again only for him to find out the truth. The one good thing in her life outside of Trish and she feels like she can't be with him, not only because of their past but also because she thinks she's trash. That's a post-trauma effect and the irony is Luke probably could help her heal if they could let each other in permanently.

Oh you're going to watch the Runways and Cloak and Dagger, sweet. Underappreciated shows to say the least.

I believe his powers still work after death if the control is related to his death. So if he compels a couple people to stab themselves to death after he dies, they would attempt to until the virus wears off in 12-24hrs. In a previous episode he told the two house helpers to remove the skin from each other's faces if he wasn't back in 2 hrs (when Jessica took him out to teach him to be good) which I assume was to tell us his powers still works even if he was not present including being dead or incapacitated etc. Also, as Chris mentioned, Jessica wasn't motivated to off Kilgrave initially until after Hope's death as she was trying to clear her name.

When Daredevil and Jessica Jones came out, they became the bar in which all superhero shows need to live up to. The latest MCU Disney+ shows haven't even gotten close. Some have been good but not great like these two shows.

On Kilgrave. Remember she was trying to save hope in the first part of the season. Her dying allowed jess the freedom to kill him. Claire is a nice connection to Daredevil and I am glad you missed her name in the opening. This season is all about the Bad having a little good and the good having bad traits. We saw Jess, Malcolm, and Simpson all have bad traits caused by their trauma but ultimately Jess and Malcolm turned it around while Simpson spiralled. We saw Jeri, Kilgrave, and Trish's mom be horrible people but they did have moments of being good people. Like Jeri near the ending saving Jessica or her mom giving files even though she would not get anything in return. It is interesting that Daredevil ends with Matt not killing Fisk and Jessica ends with her killing Kilgrave. Two heroes presented in different ways.
