Daredevil: Dogs to a Gunfight [2x02] ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction & Review

The media didn't come up with the name, ADA Tower said that their people working on a profile for the shooter gave him The Punisher as a codename.

I don't have anything of substance to comment, just wanted to chime in and say I'm having a good time watching this with you! I didn't remember a single thing about these two episodes, so this was like a first-time watch for me as well.

The award for best jump scare since Pennywise grabbed Beverly in the bathroom in IT goes to…KL picking up an empty water cup. I literally laughed out loud and when the episode was over, rewatched that moment and laughed again. Regarding the episode, I feel that name dropping “The Punisher” in this episode, taking into account the information available to the characters seems…forced. I think we could have gone a little longer and organically come up with the name. For all they know this could still be a criminal trying to take out the competition. “Punisher” implies admonishment for an infraction. Seems like a leap. Anyway. Beyond that, I am literally afraid to comment about anything else the for fear of spoiling anything. I’ll just say I love your enthusiasm for this series.

Yep matt does have flaws that you pointed out. He is a complex character but I would not call him a man child. He struggles with his morality and what he does constantly. We saw him last season almost kill Fisk. He still has some lessons to learn of course.

Jon Bernthal was born to play that role (to be fair, I've yet to see him play a role where I didn't think he embodied the part completely... he's a fantastic actor that will consistently be overlooked because of the parts he plays...much like Cillian Murphy was for the longest time... I'm looking forward to the day the world recognizes what a talent Jonny B truly is)

So...a reminder (because it's been a minute and you watch a lot of things)...Matt didn't choose to tell Foggy. Foggy found him bloody from his fight with Nobu. Him choosing to tell Foggy on his own might have made him a halfway decent guy and that, frankly, wouldn't be in keeping with his usual character. So I'm completely transparent here...I can't stand Matt. To me, he's a sanctimonious man-child who hides behind religion to give him a moral code...because without Catholicism, I'm not entirely sure he has one. He's a broodier budget Batman (and I fucking HATE Batman.) I suffer through his series for Karen and Foggy (and 2nd Season for the Punisher, primarily) and he consistently undervalues their friendship...even though this is twice now that Foggy has saved him. Revisiting the Jessica Jones Simpson-esque toxic masculinty...see also: Matt Murdock. His ego drives him to think that he alone is capable of stopping all of the crime in Hell's Kitchen and he won't entertain even a whiff of someone implying that he doesn't know everything and is capable of being wrong. To him, it's not possible that he could be partially responsible for a more violent vigilante (to be fair to him, Punisher gonna punish...I don't think for a moment he was inspired by Matt...but the point is, according to Mahoney others HAVE BEEN...and Matt refuses to take any kind of responsibility for it). To him, he's good because he doesn't kill (intentionally...but he's not exactly stopping and checking vitals/providing any sort of aid most of the time...it's only a matter of time before someone dies of their injuries at his hands) but he enjoys inflicting pain. He likes "letting the devil out". Bruh. That is not "good" by societal standards, my guy. He's a whole-ass mess of a human, IMHO. I prefer my anti-heroes as being aware that they aren't great people...not trying to hold themselves up as pillars of piety. Suck it up, Matty...you're flawed and broken and your friends deserve better.

It does say something about Jon's acting that you already recognize the silhouette. It is just that walk when the shop scene happens and The Punisher enters, but he's in the background and out of focus, and you gleefully say "Here he is!"

Richard Flores

The Punisher vs Daredevil has been amazing so far. The fighting has been thrilling and we see glimpses of Punisher's own morals in the shop. The deaf scene with Matt is so terrifying. You are blind and rely on your hearing so to have it go away even for a second makes you a prisoner in your own head. Unable to process anything at all. Reyes appeared in the finale of JJ

The cinematography and camera work seriously elevate this show so much. It's not even that there's awesome action, which there is, but the way it's shot is incredibly beautiful and dramatic and even haunting at times. I agree, it's awkward especially now that Foggy knows and Karen's the odd woman out. Foggy's an incredible friend but it's also a lot of pressure being put on him. Sure, it's nice for Matt now that he has his best friend to talk to about this stuff but who does Foggy talk to? Who does he have to vent to when Matt's missing or going after someone as dangerous as Punisher? Foggy's literally in the position Matt was when he first started crime fighting. Secrets, lies, and alibis. From one perspective, I understand the whole "protecting the ones you love" aspect but as we've seen from other heroes' stories, they're going to be in danger regardless so shouldn't they at least know what's potentially around them so they're more aware? "Hm, Matt is Daredevil and I have a thing for Matt, maybe I shouldn't cut through the dark alley to get home anymore." 2 episodes is, what, an hour 50 minutes total? This is why some movies can't work as well as shows can because these two episodes alone have built up so much regarding Punisher and the clash between him and Daredevil. A two-hour movie has to rush through the build-up and the extra details to cram everything into a shorter runtime. Season 1 of Daredevil, even season 1 of Jessica Jones, I could see how it could be shortened into movie length. But Daredevil season 2 needs its own trilogy, spin-offs, and novel tie-ins and this is only episode 2.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Punisher has always been an anti-hero. In his first introduction in the comics he was hunting down Spider-Man. It was when Spider-Man was framed and the Punisher thought he was a bad guy.
