And here is the last half of the series! This series had a lot of charming moments. 😊 Thanks so much for taking the time to watch with me! I appreciate it. [Direct link here.]

Up next is Thor: Love and Thunder! Not sure when I will get to that as of yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Cheers,

Ms. Marvel 104 - 106 ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

This show gets better with every rewatch. Once again, I found myself tearing up so much more than I did when I first watched it, mostly with tears of joy, but the heavier moments hit harder as well. This show gave me lots of X-Men vibes, especially the finale. Even before we got the iconic music tease and “mutation” line, I just kept feeling like the MCU was laying the groundwork for a shift of the social and political climate in a more obvious manner. The comments Deevers made about “the wrong people” having abilities, saying kids shouldn’t have super powers. The conversations about “coming out” as a person with abilities and how your friends and family process that. A person’s right to tell their own truth when they are ready. The elements of finding your family and a sense of belonging amongst new friends. Embracing who and what you are, and where you come from. As well as, being ostracized and targeted because of who and what you are and where you come from. Spider-Man does have a tendency to experience a lot of similar types of hate and prejudice that the X-Men receive and the Spider-Man vibes were present throughout this show as well. We did get more positive vibes when Kamala’s neighbors and community came to her defense. It was showcased in a very Tobey’s era of Spider-Man kind of way. That was nice to see. I love that you are so open and accepting of the MCU branching out and exploring different cultures and ethnicities. The variety of genres and diversity of it’s characters will always be my favorite aspect of Marvel and the MCU. I love to see them trying new things and embracing a new generation of characters while still honoring and utilizing the older generation when needed! Ms. Marvel, along with her family and friends are a most welcomed addition to the MCU and I am very much looking forward to more in the future!

The title of the last episode is a nice nod to the graphic novels as the first volume was titled "No Normal"

Both of my daughters read the comics back in 2014/2015. My first was watch was weekly with my youngest, and her enjoyment was infectious. But now with my second watch, I can confirm I really enjoyed this show. While Ms. Marvel’s powers are radically different in this show, they stayed true to her and the supporting cast. I really like the world they built around her. Like you pointed out with the street vendor who kept popping up. I think they handled the social media element well too. I followed along with you, episodes 1-3 one evening and 4-6 the following day. Once again it’s like watching a movie split into 6 parts. But it gives you time with the characters. I do wonder though, would Ms. Marvel have been a movie if the “streaming wars” had never happened, or would we have never seen this character on screen at all? I like the tone, especially since we have a teenage hero the family friendly vibe works. I also liked that they felt like a real family. Imperfect, but loving. I found your comment that it feels more Marvel than Daredevil or Jessica Jones very interesting. Just like this show, those series are staying close to their comic roots, the characters and stories adapting comic stories. I appreciate your perspective though, seeing how someone without all this…baggage perceives Marvel characters. Anyway, looking forward to the next one.

I could not force myself to watch this again .__. I will wait for the YouTube edit LOL

There is a group called The Young Avengers and I think Kamala will be part of that. There are other young characters introduced that will probably be part of that. I think it'll be a while for that though.

I believe the woman we see during the social media flurry after the school showdown who says something like, "She seems kinda familiar" is the woman who created the comic character Kamala Khan.

Thadman

Oh, and I read that Iman Vellani actually IS Canadian, so when she said that, it was bit of a joke.

Thadman

Nani's studio always makes me sad 'cause it's filled with pieces of her past that she's trying to put together through remnants and memory. The fact that she never even had a picture of her mother and had to try to paint her from memory really gets me.

I bought the run of the comic "The ClanDestine" in the early 90s. It was a short run, but I really liked it and thought it was interesting. I was glad they mentioned them in this show, but they didn't really go into them and they changed their concept quite a bit. The Clan Destine were a family that all descend from the product of a human who fell in love with a Djinn (genie). She granted him eternal life (I think) because she loved him also and wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. All the offspring have different abilities and some don't look human, but more like demons or monsters. They aren't inherently evil or anything, but they do only really care about themselves/their family and because they're very long-lived, they manipulate world events to further their own power and keep themselves safe. I can't remember how many kids their were (quite a few) but the youngest ones were young teenagers, a boy and a girl (possibly twins). They admired superheroes and wanted to be superheroes and help people, but the older siblings and parents thought they were naive and foolish because all that matters is the betterment of the family because they (way back in the day) were persecuted for being different/freaks/demons, etc. That's why most of them don't really care about other humans. The father was named Adam Destine, hence the name of the comic, The ClanDestine. Anyway, really liked the comic for its short run, but I'd read that some of them did show up in other peoples' comics. I'm pretty sure the two youngest left the clan and teamed up with some other groups for a while, like mutants and such, to help people, against the rest of the family's wishes, and they worked against the family when they'd have world-changing plans that would hurt people. I don't know if the family stance softened later or not, but they were never straight-up villains exactly, more like they were indifferent to humans and would play with them and governments and such, like chess pieces as long as it secured the family's status. Anyway, I was glad for the shout-out of them in this show, but feel like they were kinda wasted and I liked the story of them being progeny of a Djinn rather than them being banished from another realm and didn't really explain the "why" nor what the others from the Noor dimension were like or anything. That being said, I do still really love this show and that's because of the characters and actors who play the Khan family are just awesome and Bruno and Nakia are great friend characters. Not to mention the stuff I learned about Pakistani culture and The Partition.

I really liked a lot of the characters in this show, and nearly all of the actors did a really great job! Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan is adorable. 😊 But wow, the writing on this show was... rough. The villains barely made sense, and the exposition was extremely clunky. 😬 To end on a positive; I'm glad it got made and it has some nice things going for it.

Onno Smits

Fun reactions. Sure, it's a little clunky here and there, but that's part of its charm. -- it's such a warm and lighthearted show that I can't help but enjoy this much. I adore this show. I adore Kamala and her family. I will fight anyone who speaks ill of them. Haha. I look forward to seeing more of these fantastic characters moving forward. :)

To clarify it's the xmen animated series theme.

Carl Johnson

Inhumans weren't created for Ike. They debuted in the comics over 50 years ago.

Carl Johnson

To be fair that rift isn't in any of the xmen movies, it's an animated series only tune which she hasn't watched. And the small bit in Doctor Strange 2 isn't enough for her to lock onto it like us.

Carl Johnson

Little easter egg for you. When Bruno mentions "mutation" in EP6, the X-Men theme does play for like 2 secs making her the first "confirmed" mutant in the MCU. Also the first time any variation of the word mutant has being used in the MCU given that at this point Disney had acquired FOX and gotten the rights to the X-Men. Also Kamala Khan debuted in the Marvel Comics in 2013 which means Ms.Marvel is the first Movie or TV series based on a character that is younger than the MCU itself.

Isaac A

Kamala in the comics was originally inhuman for years just like daisy. Inhumans were used as a sort of substitute for mutants because ike perlmutter wanted to focus less on mutants because they did not have the rights and they were with fox but after this show the comics have actually made Kamala both. She is one of the rare inhuman mutant hybrids. Her inhuman power allowed her to stretch her arms like mr. Fantastic into longer limbs and also shapeshift her fists like we see in the finale. They have now made her "mutant" powers more light based and closer to Captain marvel in the MCU which is why we hear the X-Men 97 intro theme at the end of EP 6 signifying that she is a mutant.

Christopher simeon

Not sure if it helps you but Muneeba did mention her mum getting older (seemed like she went to avoid some form of regret later if anything was to happen) and also calling a truce with Kamala for the trip. And after finding out she was powered, the wedding fiasco explained itself so would be weird to still be mad at her.

Isaac A

Oh how my heart broke when the rift of the X-Men theme played and you had no reaction 😭🤣 The shot of her on the lamp post is straight from her iconic comic cover. Iman Vellani was the best choice for this role because she’s Ms. Marvel in real life. She even keeps Kevin Feige on his toes with superhero knowledge. As a wholesome show, this one was a good time.

Ray H

"Come with me if you want to live" is the TERMINATOR universe's "I have a bad feeling about this" of STAR WARS fame. It's that fun little quote you can expect in every respective movie. ;)

William

I have the biggest problem with the opening of episode 4. We go from Grandma saying Kamala and mom need to come to Pakistan to the opening of the episode of them on a plane. It doesn't make sense. They have established that mom and grandma don't get along. Kamala is in trouble for the second time with wedding fiasco. So why would a mother suddenly pull her from school to go halfway around the world. The flight alone is going to take a day. And that's probably costing them a few grand round trip. It just doesn't make sense to me. If they had written in that they were planning on going after the wedding from the get go then i could get on board but who has the time and money to just drop everything and fly across the world?
