Deadpool (2016) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

This movie really works as a stand-alone, but is so much more fun when you know all the little things. I'm looking forward to your comments! Thanks so much for watching. Anything I missed? Let me know.

Deadpool (2016) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

Comments

Yes, so many movie references was definitely enjoyable for me and that will only continue to get better! Glad you enjoyed it.

What I enjoyed the most about the reaction was hearing all the pop culture references that tour back through your reaction library. We had The Matrix, Star Wars, Stan Lee, X-Men, Robocop, and even Knotting Hill (I’m just a boy standing in front of a girl…). I had only seen this once before in theaters. Following your reaction channel over the years enhanced my rewatch of this movie too!

The lack of budget led to a lot of the best moments in the Deadpool movies and ultimately to Ryan asking for a lower budget in the third than they offered as that pressure brought out the best in them. He might come across as a clown a lot of the time, but Ryan Reynolds is a really smart cookie.

Turns out I was wrong so no need to feel ashamed!

Oh I didn't realize that about the ammo, that's funny. Firefly will definitely be watched at some point. Very excited to see Morena in it, because that's basically the only thing I know about the series is that she's in it and it's sci-fi.

kaiielle

I think that's why I hesitated and wasn't sure what it was exactly.

Yes, Ryan is so dedicated to this and it's impressive. Highly doubt any other actor could have nailed it like he did. I feel ashamed I did not recognize him from Last Night in Soho. 😳

"Sir, what does Miss Mama June taste like?" "Like two hobos fucking in a shoe filled with piss." And with these words, I had fallen in love...

I love how the restricted budget of this movie lead to the repeated joke about forgetting his ammo/weapons saving some of the cost on the fight scenes. As for Morena Baccarin, one of the (many) reasons I'm glad to see that Firefly is likely to win your miniseries poll is the fact that it's the first thing many of us ever saw her in.

This is the 3rd take on Colossus in the Fox X-Men movie-verse, so yeah, different actor/voice. This take on Colossus is probably the most comic-accurate of the bunch, though. And yeah, it was a helicarrier at the end, but it since it was Fox, they couldn't use the MCU model, so again, based more on the comics than any previous movies.

The thing that makes Deadpool work the best in movie form is Ryan Reynolds' dedication to the project. I can think of a couple actors that have high energy, or at least used to, but none of them would be remotely close to the energy and passion that Ryan Reynolds brings to it. Deadpool was literally a passion project for him and I would say that it turned out successfully. His banter with Negasonic Teenage Warhead is some of the funniest banter in the movie and his chemistry with Moreena Baccarin was perfection. It is such a shame that TJ Miller turned out to be kind of a douche cause he is a funny dude and fit in perfectly as Weasel. But a lot of the best moments are just throw away lines that have zero bearing on the story or characters. For instance, the Zamboni, deciding whether killing the twins was sexist or not, the Hugh Jackman magazine cover, and of course the jabs at Green Lantern. Oh and who can forget Blind Al? I wonder if she went blind because she's such a cokehead? 😆 The surprising amount of heart and serious moments balance Deadpool out and makes him somehow relatable and super both. Oh and Ed Skrein was the copper in Last Night in Soho 😀 I liked him better in Soho though he does make a good sleazeball villain.
