Imagine being a nurse, power's out, and ninjas appear out of nowhere. And then the dude you personally stitched up shows up and kicks their asses. Awkward! I love that even Claire calls Matt out. Foggy, Karen, Claire...literally EVERYONE around him is telling him he's wrong and he still thinks he's justified. There's no shame in admitting you need help. There's no shame in confiding in the people you call friends. Trust goes both ways, Karen flat-out saying "I'm not yours to protect" is a beautiful moment. Matt takes it upon himself to be everyone's savior when he hasn't even entrusted his own friends and girlfriend with his alt-identity. What right does he have to say "do this, don't do that" when he won't even be up front and honest with them in most aspects of his life? Frank and Karen always have the best conversations. They're open and honest with each other too. There's no bullshit or secrets, they just tell each other what's honestly on their mind. Frank probably thought he'd never have that level of trust in his life ever again. Totally understandable, however, why he warned her to stay away from him. His war isn't over yet. Could it ever be, really? Can we get a Bernthal vs Reeves movie please? Not necessarily John Wick 5 but maybe BRZRKR or some kind of warrior adaptation. Those two need to meet on-screen. Claire's awesome, I hate how life-saving institutions have become so political and greedy. I wish more people had her will and drive! I love the subtle cross motion by Matt when he admits he has to allow murder to make things better. At least he's starting to see there are other avenues besides his own.

My heart has def gone thumpety-thump when people I love (not necessarily are in love with) are in danger, like Karen was when she thought Frank was in danger. Anyway, yeah def not in on this ship fully but understand why people are!

Because I think it's an important distinction...there's a difference between loving someone and being IN love. In that Flashback with Stick, his response isn't "she loves him" it's "she's in love". She loves Foggy...I doubt her heart goes thumpety thump over him. Not trying to force you to be all in on it...just saying that, according to what the show has told us...that's a sign of being IN love and was the tipping point for me to go "oh, this isn't just fandom shipping... they're kinda telling us outright" Some of the Kastle memes are -chef's kiss- maybe I'll drop a few in the Marvel shows chat.

Agreed!

Thanks for the videos! Jon's nose does look like it's been broken a ton, but it suits his face and I like the shape a lot. As for Kastle, I definitely appreciate your perspective on it and I can see what you see. For me, I think my firm platonic-ness about it stems from personal experience in that I have had, and still have, a lot of male friends where it's very platonic, and with some of them I've been fortunate to get into some very deep conversations which have been valuable. In my mind, just because Frank and Karen have had that together doesn't mean it is or even could be anything more. I mean, if the show ever went that way, I'd probably be open to it. But I'm all for when movies and films and books choose to write platonic relationships that have good emotional connection and pure love. And sure, there could be a slight bit of attraction there with both of them, cause it's not like platonic friends have never tossed out the odd flirty comment to each other for fun. I can definitely see scenes where that's the case. But overall yes, Frank knows better and I think Karen does too. They wouldn't actually be right for each other, so why wreck the good thing they do have? I'll also note that love can be platonic, as well. So that scene at the docks, the way that I interpret it is that it's a scene to show Matt how much Karen really truly cares about Frank. Maybe she does have some love for him because of her own past (that we still need more details on). Perhaps that gave Matt a little dose of jealousy and that's why we had the scene where he was able to sense that. Thanks for sharing!

kaiielle

That was in this episode ;)

Rat MacKay

I'm pretty sure we saw Marci in the previous episode, when she came to visit Foggy in the hospital and brought him the Foggy Bear. She also floated the idea of getting him a job somewhere, if he was open to it, but didn't say where.

Thadman

Don't worry about how much you're typing! I'll respond to this all a bit later. Thanks for sharing!

Great fights this episode.

First...two short interview things because they relate to the Jon and Charlie scene on the boat (I was just going to do the second, but the first provides necessary context) https://youtube.com/shorts/bIglr_dw48M?si=w5rUw6FVSDWSy7gk And https://youtube.com/shorts/U_l9IOv6Y00?si=u410NALAOj1unq24 Secondly...I know that a couple of times now you've mentioned that Karen and Frank are just platonic...I disagree. I mean...they ARE...but I don't think it's because they aren't interested. I'll explain my thought process...just so you get where I'm coming from with it. Incoming Kastle ramble, ha. First, Karen comes to Frank when he's all beat up in the hospital...and against everyone's warnings, she gets right up in his face, she meets with him alone. They talk about his family and, when he gets emotional and she goes to leave, he asks her to stay. He gets comfort from her presence. Now, maybe it's just that some of her fire reminds him of his wife (since we learned in this episode that she was a fiesty one!) or maybe it's that in the middle of all of that violence and death, she's a caring, friendly person who listens...either way, clearly he's a more human version of himself around her. I mean...isn't everyone around Karen? Then in jail, she gets all fiesty with him again and it's clear that it amuses/impresses him and he gives her what she needs...and then she sits down to go over stuff with him and he's basically all I've been there, done that, ma'am and she's like "but you haven't done it with me." And then proceeds to spend who knows how many hours with him that we didn't see...not helping him with his legal case necessarily...but helping him try to figure out who killed his family. Then in court, he seems relatively detached from the proceedings, but looks to her for explanations...and when the outburst from one of his victims' sons happens, he's concerned with how that made Karen feel...and expresses concerns that maybe he is a monster. We see how Karen takes him blowing up on the stand...we see how upset she is that he's going to prison...how she still defends him to...everyone...and won't let the case go afterward. It's important to Frank for her to know that he wasn't the one who killed Reyes or the coroner. It's not like he knew that the Blacksmith would come gunning for her, so I don't think he went to her apartment to save her necessarily...he looks shocked in the moment...but to reassure her that it wasn't him...because he didn't want her to think of him like that. I mean...thank fuck he was there, though! Then the diner scene reveals a LOT, in my opinion. Him complimenting her on her choice of weapon is some serious Marine flirting, lol. Apart from that, if I were on trial with the rest of my life in the balance, the last thing I would be focusing on was who my lawyer's secretary was crushing on. Guys notice when the girls they like like other people, just saying. If he picked up on that...it's fair to say he picked up on her stealing glances at him, playing with her hair, etc. too...so, because a) he's in NO kind of place to entertain the thought of being with anyone else and b) even if he was, he knows he couldn't be the right guy for her...wanted felon, etc. he pushes her HARD at Matt...because he knows that Matt isn't a killer AND can keep Karen safe. He ends that whole diner scene by being as brutal as possible to show her some reality and then tells her to stay away from all of this and stay away from him...because he wants her safe...and doesn't want her life to be filled with that kind of awfulness. Sometimes the only way to eliminate a threat entirely is to lay a trap. He couldn't be on her 24-7 and if the Blacksmith could take out the DA at the courthouse...I wouldn't trust the safety of someone I cared about to the cops, either. They're nowhere near as vigilant as Frank. How many people can have a heart to heart convo while still keeping tabs on the traffic outside to notice a car making multiple passes...especially in NYC? So...used her as bait to put down the guys sent to kill her AND to scare her back to police protection (having ended the threat from the guys who were specifically tasked with taking her out) while he ends it all. It was the best way to keep her safe in his mind. Now, the real stuff. Do you remember this scene from season one? https://youtu.be/UKy1n6qTVBM?si=tvUhp1HQNiLi0cVw Why would they show us Matt hearing Karen's rapid heartrate at the docks when she rolls up to the explosion and "Frank...why...?" if not to show the audience that Karen loves Frank...and to clue Matt in to the fact that Karen was all "I'm not yours to protect" because maybe she has someone else who she is putting that trust in. I cannot think of any other reason for them to give us the heartbeat sound/for him to listen to it if it didn't mean something. That, plus...well...Frank and Karen have had more heartfelt convos than Matt and Karen...hell, Matt and Karen argued ABOUT Frank, lol. They set up Matt and Karen and gave us like five minutes of "awwww" and then immediately pushed Matt and Elektra together in scenes and Frank and Karen together in scenes. Just sayin'. I don't think we would see a Frank and Karen romance storyline on Daredevil...but I think if Frank was ever in a better emotional place and had some therapy, they'd both be open to it. He's got a metric fucktonne of grief to process first. And we did see Marci earlier this season...Foggy met up with her at Josie's to talk about Reyes (she referred to Daredevil as "the horny one" and dropped that she works at a firm where Jessica Jones makes appearances while talking about Reyes trying to make her bid for mayor on the back of taking on the vigilantes which is why she was chomping at the bit for Castle) ...but it's still been a minute. Go Claire! I think she just assumes that Foggy will pass on the message about her quitting. Even if they aren't in business together and Matt's being an ass, Foggy would likely still let him know that he doesn't have her for medical help at the hospital anymore. I know if someone I cared about was likely to need help, I wouldn't want to withhold that info, even if I was mad at them. As usual...I have too many thoughts/words.

Thank you! And yes, the makeup work has been fantastic overall. Really enjoying it! Yes, privatized healthcare is awful. I'm sorry that you have to deal with that on a regular basis.

I noticed both in Backdraft and in this episode what I have taken to be better lighting. You seem well lit, brighter. Visually brighter, not intellectually. You’ve always been intelligent. Basically you look lovely. Yet if you hadn’t said anything I don’t know that I would have noticed your shirt or hair style was the same. I found my lack of observation skills funny so I mention it here. Anyway. I do have to say Marcy grows on you. They first introduced her as an obstacle to Foggy with a history that almost makes you question his character. But here we are appreciating her because she does genuinely like him and you can see his character rubbing off on her. It’s great and it works for me. This show, similar to Jessica Jones, does a good job giving the supporting characters real depth and opportunity for growth. I have enjoyed the makeup work in this season. Especially on Frank. We’ve been seeing the passage of time as his bruised face healed over time, in court and in prison. It’s so realistic. And the bruising on his knuckles in this episode. If you’ve ever been in a fight, that’s exactly what your hands look like afterwards. Phenomenal attention to detail. To me Frank and Karen’s heart to heart seemed a little forced. It didn’t feel like the natural evolution of their conversation. I understand we needed something to trigger Karen to reevaluate her relationship with Matt but maybe another pass over the script could have made it more organic. Lastly. This is the United States. Hospitals are all about money and protecting their reputation over caring for people. I’m in a position to know because of my job. I literally fight with hospitals to ensure people get access to medically necessary services. If they don’t make enough of a profit they will turn patients away. Sorry to get on a soapbox there but that struck a nerve after the day I had. And because of confidentiality rules I can never talk about it. Anyway, looking for to the rest of this weekend and the season wrap up. Looking forward to how this season ranks for you overall.
