Dark: An Endless Cycle [2x06] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Well... I think this is the best episode of the entire series so far. 🥰 [Direct link here.]

REALLY looking forward to your thoughts on this one, especially. I think I am enjoying Season 2 way more than Season 1. But as we get further in, I feel less and less confident about theories. It kind of feels like ANYTHING is possible here. And that one line that Claudia said... 👀

Please enjoy! Cheers!

The actor did such a great job. Completely agree, such a tragic character.

To your question about Jonas and Martha - yes, that's how I see it. I don't think they saw each other again and Jonas went MIA. I'll have to rewatch the scene from Season 1 where Martha confronts Jonas about it all. I remember her feeling kind of betrayed. It makes sense why now.

I am sure you got your head around this after a rewatch or some time to think, but the show did open with Mikkel/Michael, but the first episode takes place a couple of months later on the first day of school at the end of the summer. Bartosz has been covering for Jonas saying he was off in France, Hannah and Ulrich are a well-established thing by then… etc. I do think the night of the party in this episode was the start of that affair, though obviously Hannah has been pining since puberty. Something that occurred to me on my re-watch was… so Jonas and Martha sleep together. Do they see each other again before that first episode? Like do they sleep together, he wakes up the next day, his dad is dead, he deals with that for a couple of months, shows up at school and Martha is dating Bartosz? Is that how that went? And Charlotte and Peter are awkward because Charlotte (and Franziska) knows that Peter is seeing Bernadette. And good point from Carl about Adam setting out the exact same clothes that Jonas is wearing. The raincoat is obvious, but the same brown pants… everything. Diabolical indeed. There were some great KL raised-eyebrow, look to the bottom corner of the screen fourth-wall break reactions in this one. That look always cracks me up for some reason.

I love the moment when Michael is telling Jonas how he ended up in the tunnel. When he said "I was so afraid, but you held my hand" you can see him reverting back to being a child, back to being Mikkel for a moment. Incredible episode and acting for an actor we only saw briefly in the beginning of season 1. You can see the love Michael feel for his son, and what he's prepared to do for Jonas to stay alive. One of the most tragic characters of the show and one of my favorites.

Ivan Chicharro

True. I just wonder if she would have leaned into as hard as we saw in season 1. Like for her, her husband was dead so nothing was keeping her planted on bound morally.

I'm going off the assumptions based on Claudia's remarks so far in the series and in that scene. Considering that Adam has this centralized location and what seems like more people on his side makes me feel like Claudia's side is the underdogs and the "good" guys.

Carl Johnson

Yeah I didn't quite pick up on this first watch that Adam did this very purposefully, but I think we are still missing some info on Adam's why and understanding, especially when compared to Claudia's.

Well we've seen teenage Hannah be super into Ulrich, so I think the affair would have happened regardless. I'd need more insight into the relationship between her and Michael - more than what we got in this episode.

kaiielle

"I've seen the world without you." Hold up, wait a minute, can we elaborate on that Claudia.

Carl Johnson

Marta exits the Lake, K "Damn Girl". Yep, I had basically the same reaction. 😆 Like okay Jonas, we can understand your affection for your aunt.

The three seasons of this show feel like the 3 acts of a movie and with that formula of writing, this episode feels like a midpoint. Jonas learning that he is the one that gave his dad the idea to hang himself and showed him the letter all because his older self manipulated him into doing so. Like Adam had the exact same clothes June 20, 2019 Jonas was wearing laid out for Jonas to wear, knowing exactly what needed to be done, diabolical .

Carl Johnson

From what I remembered, Ulrich and Hannah didn't start the affair until this night, June 20th. I wonder if Michael wouldn't have committed suicide would Hannah have been so into the affair? Like did she fully fling morals to the side because she was, in some way, mourning the loss of her husband? Who knows.
