Luke Cage: Suckas Need Bodyguards [1x06] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

I've been to NYC twice in my life, so I do understand neighborhoods feeling very clsoed off from one another. And I'm a fan of the "15-minute city" which NYC is, like multiple of those all together. But it's also because I travelled all over Mannhattan so frequently, that's where it also doesn't make sense to me why you would stay in a certain block radius when it's so easy not to. πŸ˜‚

Yeah that's fair, didn't even think about that tbh.

HAHA if she had told the press that, that would have been funny.

kaiielle

Villain brain, confirmed.

Just caught your reaction. I can see why you thought Luke would be in the van waiting. It makes sense for how he’s approached Cottonmouth’s lackeys before. I think this time he in protection mode. He had to play defense over offense. I consider the distinction some solid character writing. One of my takeaways in your commentary was when you mentioned the New York neighborhoods seem so sectioned off in these stories. I feel like that’s in part to how Marvel approached their stories in the comics. Most of Marvel’s comics are set in New York and giving the heroes their own neighborhood added to the flavor. But speaking as someone from a large city in the U.S., the way the city was designed, every few blocks nearly everything restarted. You had grocery stores, restaurants, clothing stores, hairdressers/barbers, walking trails, parks, and schools, etc. Then it all restarted for the next neighborhood and you didn’t have to interact with each other unless you were dealing with a unique restaurant, specialty store, or museum. To me it rings true to how a large city feels. Every neighborhood has its own style and vibe. At least, that’s my personal experience.

At least in the US, the notebook without Scarfe would be pretty much useless. It's all hearsay and would be ruled inadmissible. If it was somehow allowed in and any case went to trial based on it, a defense attorney trying his first case could drive a truck through the prosecution's case. Reasonable doubt a-plenty and no opportunity for the defense to cross-examine the accuser...which is a violation of his rights. Even Scarfe's shooting was done with his own gun and a picture could be painted that a corrupt cop, burdened with guilt over the unfortunate death of his only son, shot himself and botched the attempt only to regret it and bleed out hours later. If Scarfe had been committed to bringing Cottonmouth down, instead of using his last breaths to joke with and apologise to Misty, he could have made a dying declaration to get around hearsay and salvage some sort of case against him, but it's still a crapshoot as to whether a DA would deem it a winnable enough case to take it to trial.

Somehow I feel like if Mariah had said "It's not my fault my cousin's a dumbass", that it would have been a sufficient answer for the press and the voters LOL What I'm nervous about is that bullet Shades mentioned last episode now that Claire's come into the picture. Assuming it could even pierce Luke's skin, the detonation could cause some serious damage, OR Claire could be used as leverage, hurt, or worse. Or it could just sputter and flame out as HammerTech tends to do LOL

Definitely feels like a midpoint of the season. Cottonmouth arrested and Mariah career torched. Scafe was corrupt but at least he went out trying to do something good. You did mention drowning before this episode. It seems you are now thinking like a villain.πŸ˜†πŸ˜†. Loved Misty's phone trick. Sad to see her reaction to losing scafe but it is better she found out now.
