That's not necessarily accurate. Obviously, the lineup was real because Kujan is part of that story, arresting Keaton; the New York's Finest Taxi Service story can be verified; the boat thing was at least partially real because we can see them investigating the aftermath; the character of Kobayashi, even if Verbal has changed his name, clearly exists. I have my issues with the film but one of the qualities I think is good about it is that it never answers how much of what Verbal tells the cops is true and how much he made up. It seems clear that he presents fictionalized versions of things that happened, so it's not entirely true and it's not entirely a lie either. The only full lies are the little riffs he does when he's trying to piss Kujan off by talking about something else.

2025-09-11 12:38:21 +0000 UTCI used to have a VHS copy of this movie that I would bring to friend’s houses and just be like “you have to watch this movie!” Only one of my friends figured it out before the reveal; the rest were just as shocked as I was the first time. Anyway, great reaction, as always!
