Thunderbolts* (2025) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction
Added 2025-09-11 13:00:04 +0000 UTC
Waaaooowww, everyone's right, this is one of the top MCU movies since Endgame! 🥰 This one was such a joy to watch and Florence Pugh is just so wonderful as Yelena. Definitely one of the better MCU castings and characters in general. So many things to like and enjoy about this one!
EDIT: Thank you for your patience with this video fix, as I wasn't able to do it while I was away. The link has been replaced with the corrected video that no longer cuts off and now includes my reaction to the post-credits scene and my full review of the movie.
PS. I mixed up actress names in the review, I said Olga when I meant Hannah. Forgot to put an Editor's Note in the actual video.
Please enjoy! Looking forward to your comments. [Direct link here.]

I’m usually fine with YouTube edits, but decided to buy this reaction. Grateful you fixed everything before I did. This is the only movie to push Cap 2: Winter Soldier from number one spot for me. I’m glad I decided to watch your entire reaction. Your emotional intelligence makes my comfort movie even warmer.

I’m so sad that your video cut off. The mental health storyline is such a good one. It was tough for me on the first watch in the theater… I didn’t know to have tissues, so I was really glad for the lengthy credits so I could compose myself before the lights came up. It still hits hard… Florence gives such an amazing performance. 🥹

This movie beat my expectations from the great chemistry from the random group of misfits, to the origin of Sentry and the love hate and great acting from julia louis-dreyfus.
You have the great moments between so many characters that give off goodness through the darkness they all been through. I felt I can relate to The Void just due to my own life of being alone for 25+ years. The emotional given off when they team comes together to hug Bob and bring him out of the void was amazing.
The Sentry himself omg such a powerful yet scary being, Superman like mixed with moon knight. Would love to see what all he can truly do !
Best new marvel in a while for me since Dr Strange 2.

Ah, Thunderbolts*. Easily in my top ten MCU things since the moment I walked out of that theater. Love the tone of this film, and will never not get teary-eyed at Yelena's talk with her dad. My favorite bit of symbolism that I don't see many people mention is that when Bob is fighting the Void, he literally pushes the team away from him, just like how some people can push others away when they try to face their own demons alone. Such a fan-fucking-tastic time.

Really enjoyed the reaction. This was my third watch of the movie.
A little surprised you only fanned yourself after Bucky appears on his motorcycle and didn’t wipe the drool off your chin 😉. I got a little kick out of hearing what sounded like a dryer buzzer in your background at the exact same time Yelena disappears into the void.
One comment I have when it comes to the story is how much time and distance is it between D.C. and Allegra’s storage site? Because anyone familiar with United States geography (or not, I guess) should understand that’s like a minimum 22 hour drive to find dessert like land and climate and the actual filming was in Utah, so we’re talking around a 30 hour drive from D.C. Not gonna lie, it takes me out of it a little bit.
I do look to forward to hearing your thoughts, especially considering how much you were engaged with the movie.

i Adore this movie, for many reasons, ive now watched it with multiple reactors and wanted to mention a few things i noticed, so sorry for the long comment lol, but this movie's theme is very important to me.
firstly, i love that Bucky finally has his own theme that doesn't incorporate the winter soldier's theme, the music when he shows up to stop the convoy is titled "Its Bucky" and is entirely new and heroic, hes finally past that part of his story, and i LOVE that choice.
now onto some of the more serious stuff, fair warning im going to get fairly dark, for obvious reasons, but this movie touches on some things ive experienced,
In the vault, when you mentioned Yelena going into a "zen" moment, i think it was a bit darker than that, her and bob's actions both ring true to a state of mind ive been at before, a very low one where, well, you want it to end, but you're not going to do it yourself, both her and bob in that moment accepted it, its why bob was the way he was when they got out of there and why Yelena instantly knew what state of mind he was in by his reaction to her attempt to help, this is especially true as i reacted that way when i saw others in the same state of mind, even if i didnt want to help myself, it was disconnected i guess from me, when i saw others in the same mindset i still wanted to help them even if i fought against that help when offered to me (the way bob at first just tells her to leave him).
but the part that makes me sure of this is Yelena's state at the start of the movie, sure when she had to interact she was still her usual self, but it was a mask she only put on when interacting with someone, you can see almost every time she talks to someone her face drops almost immediately after, or she puts on a face to interact, at least up until the vault.
then the Void, everything they did around Bob and the void was perfect, they showed how tiny details and especially things said to him when he was young changed how he viewed himself as an adult, the things he says about him self were told to him in the flashbacks, but i especially love that fighting it brute force wasn't the way to beat it, destructive "coping" never works and often makes the problem, the "void" worse.
i went to see this movie on a whim, i knew nothing about it, (though i had heard about the sentry previously but not that he was in this) i went because i was having a terrible day, something had happened that shot my mental health way down, so i went to see this to try and cheer myself up, i had NO idea how perfect of a choice that was, this movie nailed every element of mental health so well.
as for the Sentry/Void, im so happy they are leaving him in the most interesting place rather than fixing him fully, Sentry is the nuke allegory in the comics, for every life Sentry saves, Void kills another, its not a risk, its just how it works, it will happen. so if you bring Sentry to a fight, what your fighting has to be worse than the Void as he will show up, even then if the Sentry is defeated in any way (such as the kill switch we saw) the void takes over that instant, so it can sometimes even be worse bringing Sentry in. i really hope they let this sit for a while and dont just "fix" him, as beyond being interesting, having him battle with that part of him self is important too, the "void" in depression, in loneliness isnt removed that easily, people, friend, help but it takes a long time and a lot of effort to remove that voice.
anywho, cant wait to see the full review and reaction to the end scene when you upload it, and im so glad you seemed to enjoy this movie as much as i did!
if you read this long thanks lol, sorry again for the huge comment and probably stream of consciousness grammar haha

God I love this movie so much. I clicked on PLAY as soon as this went live. It is soooo good. Definitely top 10 MCU movie but for different reasons than all the other ones. The acting, the storytelling, the music…all on point. I have yet to see any reactors that didn’t like this film. It’s spectacular. A++

Right off the bat, the building Yelena jumped from at the beginning of the movie is the Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It’s the second tallest building in the world. Florence Pugh loves heights in real life. She even had an adventure with Bear Grylls a while back.
(By the way, that explosion after Yelena left the building wasn’t special effects. They actually blew up a floor.)
My one hot take about this movie night was how they treated Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster. They brought her back just to have one line (again) and kill her off after a good fight. I thought we were gonna get more of her without the mask this time.
Next to that, I would’ve wanted to know what Ava was up to since we last saw her. Scott was getting more particles for her in the quantum realm when Thanos made half of all life vanish including Hope and her parents and left him stuck in there. I wonder how she managed all that time or if she was also another vanished victim.
About Bob Reynolds/Sentry, he was originally supposed to be portrayed by Steven Yeun. However, just when this film was about to enter production the Hollywood labor strikes happened. By the time everyone reached a deal, Steven had already booked Mickey 17 among other projects he couldn’t turn down.
Even after all this, he said he would still like to join the MCU later on with a different role. In the meantime, Bob was recasted with Lewis Pullman.

Mel (Valentina's assistant) steals every scene she's in imho. Now watching this for the fifth time I was looking at her just standing off to the side/in the background, and her facial expressions are hilarious. Or the way she was having too much of a good time at the "First Responders Family Fund Gala", and Valentina just gives her a look like "tone it down", it's all in the background and non-verbal but it's very funny.

Wasn't sure what I was going to watch while I ate dinner...and then I saw this. This movie is one of my favorites of the entire MCU...Florence Pugh shines, but everybody else kills it here as well. I think maybe Wyatt Russell as John Walker might steal a considerable portion of the movie here for me...he's such a dick, but so good at being a (somewhat compelling) dick. Good shit.

Honestly thought there'd be more tears but anyway, fantastic reaction, glad you liked it! It's such a great film. Man did this hit home in a lot of ways.

Dont worry, I'll update the post when I re-upload the corrected video. And yes that's exactly where my confusion came from haha

I enjoyed watching this one with you! I've seen it five times now. It's still just as good on the fifth viewing as it was on the first. Love this one!
Please make a little announcement post when you've fixed this video after your Eurotrip, because I'm very much looking forward to your final thoughts on this film!
RE: Olga Kurylenko vs Hannah John-Kamen confusion:
Yeah, they did Hannah a bit dirty in the credits graphics imho. Her agent clearly negotiated a reserved billing clause for a final "with"-credit at the end, but then they had the first billings (Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russel) all be portraits of their characters, and then we immediately see a portrait of Ava/Ghost but with Olga Kurylenko's credit. Creates confusion for sure.
I've been a fan of Hannah John-Kamen since her lead role on Killjoys, where she played a character that's frankly quite similar to Ava in terms of personality! 😅
Killsjoys was a SciFi channel show that was basically a Firefly rip-off. Very fun and I like to imagine it took place in the same universe as that of the crew of the Serenity. 😊

Well shit, I have no clue how that would have happened. Because it's at a weird point, I must have accidentally enabled an In/Out prior to rendering, but without realizing. Unfortunately, I won't be able to fix this until I'm back home in October.
