Cicada Springs v0.9.5.1 | Finally, Bedrock
Added 2025-01-31 02:00:05 +0000 UTCHello again, friends! January has come and gone and with that means a new Cicada Springs update.
This time of the year can be stressful for a lot of people, myself included. Luckily this month's update was not as vast and sweeping as the last, though there's still much that's been done! I consider this to be sort of a "part 2" for what I was working on last month - a completion of the rewriting, retagging, and reformatting that needed to be done in order to add some much needed polish to the game.
I'd like to take this time to thank my bugtesters on my Discord channel, as well as all of my lovely patrons for their part in making this happen. It feels like I've been working on this game for such a long time, but the closer we get to the light at the end of the tunnel the more fulfilled I get going back and looking at old versions of this game.
You all rock, and I wouldn't be able to do this without you.
Cicada Springs v0.9.5.1.
Will I need to start a new save file?
Not unless you are loading a save from v0.9.4.x or below. Any files from the previous version should be kosher.
Are there any known bugs?
Kendra is coded to like Margot's blueberry frappe and the Hot Bo-Colate beverage, but cannot accept them at this time. This is an easy fix and will be addressed ASAP.
Dialogue Revision
This update marks a fully revised, reformatted, and retagged dialogue system for all main characters! Kendra and Margot were the last holdouts from the previous update's [TALK] and [GIFT] menus, but I've also updated everyone's [ASK] menus as well.
[TALK] menus will now unlock information about the characters in the NOTES menu. This means their likes, dislikes, schedules, occupation, and information regarding their individual storylines.
[ASK] will now have characters reveal similar information from the lens of other characters. For characters like Clover or Charlie, who are more closed off, this is the most efficient way to get certain pieces of information.
[GIFT] will update a characters likes and dislikes depending on what you give/try to give them. If you try to give Margot something chocolate-flavored, her notes will update and tell you that she doesn't like chocolate-flavored things, but if you give her something sweet, they'll update accordingly.
In addition, Kendra's tastes have been tweaked so that she will eat almost all items, excluding predominantly sweet ones. This means that, yes, she can finally drink that there fancy coffee.
The biographic information in the NOTES section will act as switches to unlock questlines in the final version of this game. That doesn't mean anything to you guys right now, but it'll be one of the last things I switch over before I port the game out.
Item Descriptors
In addition to the color tagging that I've done for flavors and items (in conversation) I've finally formatted the item descriptors when purchasing. They look nicer, and while it's not the biggest deal in the world, it was a headache to fix and I'm happy to have finally gotten everything more streamlined.
Main characters and important bits of information are colored orange.
Sweet foods are colored pink
Odd foods are colored blue
Chocolate foods are colored brown
Savory foods are colored yellow.
Miscellaneous
Over the course of this update, I think I fixed something like 50 bugs - most of them related to portrait flickering/representation. A lot of them were Charlie's, but not exclusively.
Speaking of Charlie, due to a bug, y'all were not getting half of her ASK dialogue. This has been fixed! Now, at higher weights, whenever you ask Charlie about another girl around town, she has a good chance of chastising you for paying attention to someone other than your "special project"
What's Next?
Endings. Just endings.
I know, can you believe it?
Anything that I fix from this point on should (please God) just be a glitch or a graphical update or just a little thing that isn't something as huge and sprawling as the sorts of updates I've been doing recently. Which means... all that's left is to finally buckle down and implement the (admittedly pretty intricate) endings tallying system that tracks what you've done, who you've fed, who you've made friends with, how much money you have, how much you know about certain characters...
Ugh, it's going to be a lot.
But that's okay! We're getting to the end of all of this, and I cannot thank you all enough for your continued support. With y'all's help, Cicada Springs has been coming to life little by little and I'm so excited to see it get nearer to its fullest potential.
Thank you all again, and I hope you enjoy the latest version of Cicada Springs.
