It's all coming together....
Added 2021-05-13 06:01:19 +0000 UTCSo....months ago I was supposed to work on that Disgaea poll item right? The Defense/armor Knight? I promise I didnt forget about it! (despite all the distractions and work that piled up besides)
Truth is periodically I get this burning urge to improve and I feel like my work just isnt good enough for what I've got on my plate! So I lose track of time on projects to practice endlessly until all the guilt eats me up....and I muster the courage to tackle the ones I owe.
Really bad habit I know...but I come bearing at least a little fruit from all that grueling practice!
So my idea for that original poll was to have the Armor Knight getting a res orb shoved into her ass.
I wanted a little shop like stand such as this one from Disgaea 4, but I just couldnt get the perspective right despite how simple it was.

So I journeyed into perspective books and used all kinds of tools that just left me feeling lousy about the idea. Between that I picked up what I thought would be some quick projects, and did a LOT of portrait practice (as you might have seen on Twitter (1, 2) ) Turned out that those weren't so quick...
But that eventually lead me to some practice blender tutorials and a course I took to put together some basic assets. What started as a plan to just download some assets and throw them together ended up being a multi week deep dive. I'd love to tell you I'm great at it now but all I managed to put together independently was a mock up of that stand with some crates for my characters to lean on

Not great but this ended up being a lot more than I was expecting to be capable of! And I even learned how to export it into Clip Studio!
This weekend I removed the textures and threw it into clip studio alongside some default models and got a little base to start with

Which leads us to my latest wip!

I expected to be overly influenced by the stiff models but I think so far its working out! All things considered at the end of the day I took a couple months to learn to render basic cubes so i could draw over them in clip studio but I feel like I've learned a lot of valuable skills in the process I'm hoping I can leverage to make better work in the future. Sorry for how long all of this has taken but I think you'll like where things are going!

That is SO awesome!!! I too took the last couple months to learn a new skill. It's such a cool feeling to evolve your craft . I'm super excited to see the cool perspectives you come up with.
