Go for the friendship route. Romance seems unlikely, given there don't seem to be any examples of herd mentality in the modern pony family models.

Not only is it difficult, but it's dangerous for many MANY reasons. The friendship route however, this patches up what was lost at no cost to others involved. This also maintains Spikes choices without compromising his integrity. Twilight was the one to hurt Spike by failing to accept his choice with grace. While understandable that she would feel hurt at the time, dragging it on like this only hurts them both. Help mend their friendship. (Further, Starlight's probably right. This is a big job either way, but that's what help is for. The players whom should be fixing this, the people whom have know them the longest, just need that little push to get things rolling. Don't go thinking you have to do this on you own, or even all at once. Relationships take time. Your first clue starts with Starlight. Ask her what she knows.) ((More so, nice work with the story. Few have me thinking this much and I'm loving every bit of it!))

But I think it's only fair to have Spike at least give her a chance. The reason Twilight isn't that Spike rejected her, it's that Spike never even gave her an opportunity.

And assuming he can't have more then one mate. Plus the quest isn't make spike bang twilight. It's to help him understand twilight. Which is alicorn and will far live out AJ so she should be given a option of courtship with him. So Love Conquers All!!
