Down But Not Out, Hunters Page 135, and Archetype Classification!

Down But Not Out

You know, I was hoping to have my computer back by now so I could at least work on a couple of little projects and allow my patrons some early access to something......but clearly, fate had other plans for me.

That's right, I've been laptop-less for 13 days, and even now I might not be able to pick up my device until later this afternoon. On the bright side, however, I have finally a new computer, a new large monitor, and a new keyboard-mouse combo.

That being said! I still have a lot of setup to do. Most of the necessary installations are complete, but it's not yet ready. I don't have any of the newer recorded files needed to edit anything, and I need to switch the activation code for my editing program (which I need my actual laptop for), and there are still lots of transfers necessary relating to games, recording files, and programs.

It's been a long wait, and I've become increasingly frustrated. Even so, I've still been thinking about and planning some video content to an extent. I know exactly what I'll be working on once I do actually have my laptop back. I'll definitely have some busy evenings ahead of me, but I am fully prepared for that.

Here's what I've got planned thus far for the next few weeks at least:

At the moment these are my highest priorities regarding projects, and there will certainly be more to come. But I'll be doing what I can to complete these projects as quickly as possible, while still making sure the content is good quality.

And now that I have a new computer that has shown to produce higher quality videos regardless of the content, I'm real excited to get lots of new videos started! One step at a time though.

Hunters Page 135

Alright! Now that the prologue is finished, I can finally return to drawing the main comic story! And now that I'm creating 3 new pages a month and intending to stick with a regular schedule, maybe I can get to some exciting parts I've been thinking about for a while now. Especially approaching the end of Chapter 2: The Outsider! Not to mention I'm about to draw my first real action scene in the upcoming pages!

Anyways, enjoy pages 133, 134, and the early access to Page 135!

Archetype Classification

Every wonder how many character archetypes there are? Whelp, I'm here to give a not-so-helpful answer: there aren't!

Let me be more specific. There are anywhere between a dozen and a couple dozen general character archetypes, where writers try to include at least a few of them into their stories. But to some writers, there are hundreds of different types of character archetypes, many of which may fall into a subcategory or even a sub-subcategory of another category. Point is, it can get reeaal confusing.

And sometimes, you can be a writer that creates their own type of classification system.

Most people might label characters under certain archetypes like the Damsel in Distress, the Absent Father, the Love Interest, the Hero, the Villain, so on and so forth. Pretty typical tropes people are familiar with even if they don't read fiction a lot.

My system focuses not on tropes, but rather the characters themselves. I identify a character based in large part on their personalities and histories, not under the typical archetype one might see in a story. Specifically, I have a 2-Point Archetype Classification system. It might not seem all too complicated, but just you wait.

I first analyze a character, then look at all the words I've provided to myself for classification, and pick which two seem to be the most defining traits of the character I'm working on. One point is an adjective, of which there are 66 options to choose from. The second point is a noun, of which there are 55 options to choose from. I analyze and reanalyze the words that best define the character and let that be the identifying marker for what type of character I've created.

The options are incredibly varied, and the combinations even more so. For classifications I've defined adjectives such as ambitious, overbearing, loyal, and immature; and I've identified nouns such as pessimist, leader, soldier, and artist. And these are just some of the examples!

This list of adjectives and nouns have been changed multiple times these past few years, refined over and over again. But I use this system to identify character types across all my stories so that I may have a better idea of identifying their personalities, strengths, weaknesses, fears, and desires.

If I had just one story, the simple character classifications provided online would be suitable. But when you have dozens of stories and already over 600 solidified characters, each of whom is incredibly different from one another? You need something that isn't basic to help you along the way. And at this point, my classification system probably couldn't even be considered an archetype system anymore, but, it is the way I do things with my own stories and characters.

And none of this even takes into account the fact that character's archetypes might change (even more than once) over the course of the story, and also doesn't talk about the compatibility analysis I put into this process! But, those could be for another time......and you know, if you'd ever like to see what kinds of classifications I label for characters from my own stories, or South Park characters, or well-known characters already established in other stories, let me know!!
