Hunters Page 149!

Is it late at night? Yes. Is it delayed by a day or two? Yes again. But I was determined to finish this page tonight so here we go! The first page of the month gives all patrons access to the in-progress images this time around.

Normally I would say I hate backgrounds again what with having to match them all the time. Granted I do my best to match them to previous panels, but overall I was actually less focused on the backgrounds this time, mostly to make the deadline I set for myself.

Something I did actually do a bit differently, however, was the initial paneling. Normally I will create the panels with a ruler in the first step of the process. But for this page, I instead drew rough lines, and then used a ruler to outline the panels after the pencil outline had been finalized. I rather liked that method a bit more, even if I had to do a bit more erasing, but somehow it simply felt easier to put the panels and characters together without having to worry about, "Am I gonna go over the line of the box?"

Some fun facts about this page. The goldenrod and woundwort that Alina talks about? They are based on genuine plants found in nature known to aid in the healing of wounds, whether through ingestion or wound application. Goldenrod is related to sunflowers and literally looks like rods of golden buds on a single stalk, and is often used for treatment of various infections and wounds. The woundwort is actually based off of a plant called yarrow, also related to sunflowers and goldenrod but is often a flowering white plant that can be used in ointments for abrasions and wounds; it can also be used to relieve fevers and colds!

Laruk's wounds may be cleaned a little bit but she's not out of the woods just yet. She won't show it much, but she is actually in some pain about now. Luckily Nysha and Alina looking after her and explaining to her about the plants takes her mind off it.....somewhat.

And they're not the only ones looking after Laruk. Believe it or not, that strange wolf in the last panel is actually a character that has appeared in the comic already, albeit very briefly. Don't worry; we'll get to learn more about her before long!
