The Next Hunters Concept Arts

Remember that everybody can check the progress on current video, art, and writing projects on my Trello page, don't forget!!

____________________________________________________________________

My first piece of concept art for my Hunters comic turned out quite nicely; Boundless Earth & Starry Sky gave me the chance to really try drawing legitimate wings on a creature that normally does not bear them, and to fully design 2 characters I'd never even drafted before. Amarok and Fenris turned out better than I could have imagined......but now that that piece is finished, time to get started on the next piece.

Or should I say, pieces.

In my most recent YouTube poll regarding the next concept art, people seemed most interested in me working on a bit of concept art I'm going to call Lost Sorrows, which will feature mothers and fathers who did not survive in regards to the comic.

What exactly does that mean? Weeeeell I cannot say yet! Because the more detailed information actually relates to story elements in future chapters of Hunters, and I don't want to spoil anything quite yet. Patrons may get some neat bits and sneak peeks, but I'm not about to give away all the juicy details! That'd be no fun!

I've at least figured out the conception for the artwork. It will feature 6 different characters, 4 of whom are definitively named (and have not even been mentioned in the comic) and 2 others back in the shadows. The relationship between mothers, fathers, mates, and children is a very complex one in the world of the wolf pack, but that does not mean they are not important in some way. Marlo, Nyrali, Tema, and Elina all play major roles in the story even though they have already been lost, as have the two other wolves featured in this piece.

Will they ever be seen to great length in the comic, or even discussed in-depth? Not very. But if anything this piece shows just how much prominence they did have to the story, seeing as how I have decided to dedicate an entire piece of art to characters that passed before Laruk's encounter with the pack, or even before her birth. I have carefully thought out timelines and families and history.....and the 6 wolves I have chosen are by far the most important of those lost before the story of Hunters actually began.

Lost Sorrows is one thing, so let's switch to a brighter topic. What about the other pieces I mentioned? They actually relate to another idea I came up with for concept art more recently, something a lot simpler than the concept art for Earth & Sky as well as Lost Sorrows. Basically, I'll be putting together expression sheets for each of the characters!

So far many of the expressions for each character that I draw in comic panels are [relatively?] the same, but I want to show that wolves like Laruk, Nysha, Diala, and Cival are much more emotive than what people may have already seen in pages already. And it's good practice for me too!

The expression sheets will be more simplistic in that I have little desire to color them since it's really more about the faces and expressions and moods rather than the color or identifying markers, whether you're familiar with the comic or not.

Fun fact! I think my favorite parts of this to draw was the downward dog play pose near the top right and the content sitting in the bottom left. Laruk so rarely carries a smile on her face, and even when she does it's a very subtle or nervous one, so drawing a genuine smile on her face really warmed my heart. The middle left pose with Laruk snarling and poised to fight was also a cool one, as it shows that Laruk may actually have some fight in her which really excites me as the writer/artist for this comic that I've planned for years!

I probably won't be sharing these kinds of sneak peeks publicly for a while, so hopefully this expressions sheet and the Lost Sorrows in-depth concept idea will satisfy anyone's curiosity about more comic sneak peeks, even if you don't read it!
