The Ancient Maze: A YCH contest!

Good day, everyone! It’s time for another YCH contest, and this time we’re gonna get lost for a bit in this ancient maze. What will we find? Or better yet, what, or who’s gonna find us…?

Ready to explore? In 400 words or less tell us a bit about you and your logs describing your journey: How you’ve heard of this maze, what drives you to explore it, what do you expect to find? Any observations, feelings of peril? All these events right BEFORE being found by the beast residing in the maze…

RULES:

Good luck everyone and have fun exploring! The prize at the center of the maze it’s quite worth it!

———————-WE HAVE THE WINNERS!!!———————

THANK YOU ALL FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE LATEST YCH CONTEST, AFTER MY COMMITTEE AND I READ ALL THE ENTRIES, WHICH WAS A BLAST, WE DECIDED ON THE WINNERS!

BOTH ENTRIES DID A GREAT JOB IN THEIR RESPECTIVE WAYS: WE ENJOYED THE DESCRIPTIONS AND ATMOSPHERE THAT R CREATED AND THE OMINOUS TENSION THAT ESCALATED IN PUP HADES’S STORY.

WE JUST LOVED THE PERSONAL REASON WHY HIS CHARACTER EMBARKED ON THIS QUEST, A “FOOLS ERRAND” ACCORDING TO HIM, IT FELT VERY SYMPATHETIC!

WE LOVED THE SETTING FOR HIS STORY: A KNOWLEDGEABLE BUT PROUD AND ARROGANT SURVEYOR OF A CONQUERING NATION EXPLORING VAST RUINS THAT EXCEEDED HIS EXPECTATIONS AND BROUGHT HIS DOWNFALL INTO THE CLUTCHES OF THE BEAST THAT INHABITS THE MAZE.

AGAIN I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR PARTICIPATING AND FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN EVERYTHING, YOU PEOPLE ARE THE BEST!!

A Bull's Final Expedition Property of Grant Just before retirement my final task is to investigate an undocumented island in search of unusual specimens to return to the university for analysis. I have only been supplied a few pieces of paper for observations, I better save them for important notes. Night 2: The most peculiar sight has just occurred. While dozing off to sleep with the ambient noise of the ocean waves on the rocky shore, and the crackling of my campfire next to me. My heart was pounding, thinking of a plan for the coming days when suddenly everything got dark. Not only had my fire gone out, additionally, the moon itself appears to have popped out of existence. All noises ceased. Then streaks of color filled the sky, blues and greens. It was strangely calming, and this show of color seemed to have gone on for what felt like days. I was eventually woken by water hitting my hooves. Quickly getting up, I feel more refreshed than I have in many long years. Day 7: After the event that happened on night 2 I feel noticeably stronger and quicker. With this newly found energy I have decided to take a trek up the nearby mountain to get a lay of the land and find some new points of interest to explore. When I approached the top I was shocked to find it contained a well maintained field of flowers, stretching out for as far as I could see, with a large stone seating area to overlook the island. After taking in the view for quite some time I noticed a large structure to the south. A new place to look into! Day 14: My heart flutters with excitement! This island has such unique creatures all around, large and strong looking, I wonder if these effects are from the island itself? The structure I observed a few days ago appears to be a pyramid in shape. After going through the main entrance it looks to be full of many branching corridors. As I go further in, it looks more and more like a maze. Not only that, there appear to be small earthquakes every once in a while. The puddles of water are shaking noticeably next to me as I write this. And a strange large shadow has been gradually cast over me as I write today's entry…

Entry #1 The task I’ve been given is simple: to investigate the “labyrinth” within the exclusion zone. Since its discovery more than four-hundred years ago, there has been no recorded instance in which a person has returned after entering it. Due to the nature of this mission, I’ve been equipped with a tracking device to report my location to authorities. Entry #2 Upon initial inspection of the exclusion zone, nothing seems outwardly amiss. The only thing worth noting is the unusual musky odor that hangs heavily in the air around the air, likely due to the wildlife or something. Entry #3 As if contrary to my previous entry, something strange happened—as I approached the labyrinth’s entrance, my equipment began malfunctioning; likely a contributing factor to the disappearances. I’m not afraid, however. I've had years of survival and combat training, so I shall proceed as normal. Entry #4 It has been a few hours since my last update. The pungent, musky odor lingering air that I noticed when I arrived hasn’t disappeared, but instead gotten stronger. It’s almost overpowering, but that’s not the forefront of my concerns right now—I suspect I’m not alone down here. In my wanderings, I’ve passed by a number of signs: fresh hoof marks in the dirt, scrape marks on the walls and strange noises I can’t quite explain. It seems much larger than what ive been trained to deal with. I think it’s for the best that I abandon this mission; I have a sinking feeling about this place that I just can’t shake. Entry #5 I … couldn’t bring myself to turn back. I’m not sure why, but I just couldn’t help it. All I can think about is this damn smell. It’s strong enough to give me a headache, and yet I find that I’m … drawn to it? It sounds absurd as I’m writing this, but I need to figure out what its source is. I’m going to continue deeper. Entry #6 I’ve found the center of the maze. There’s nothing here that seems to be the source of the disappearances, only the evidence that something—or someone—has been living here. The musky scent lured me here, and though I should feel frightened by this revelation, I feel … not like myself. I hear something approaching this room. I should be terrified, but I cannot bring myself to leave. I’ll add another entry when—
