New hominid fossil site in South Africa
Added 2020-08-24 19:03:32 +0000 UTC Happy Monday! If y'all have kept up with the paleoanthropological discoveries coming out of South Africa in the last few years, you might remember the discovery of Homo naledi and the Rising Star Expedition (https://blog.nationalgeographic.org/tag/rising-star-expedition/).
The Cradle of Humankind is an extraordinary complex of fossil sites (both Blake and Darcy picked it as their dream locality to visit on the latest livestream!) and it looks like another one is being added to the list as we speak. The lead researcher on the Homo naledi project, Dr. Lee Berger, is a big advocate for open access and is posting video updates from the field, if anyone is interested in following along! The first one is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDrKVUxQd24
