Slice of life #2! <3

Another sneak peak into my work space! Since somebody asked about the paints I use for my sculptures. I decided to to make a small guide for you patrons!  ^^

When it comes to the paints I use, I'm not really picky. The usual brands of paints I use are Renesans and Amsterdam. Both are really good and I'd recommend them for everyone who wants to start their own adventure with art. I've tested LOTS of different brands along the way, but I can tell you one thing. You should AT ALL COSTS avoid the cheapest brands on the market. While testing one of them I had a very unpleasant experience of paint kinda "bleeding" pigment through varnish. It was creating a rainbow of different colors on finished piece, and I couldn't do anything about it. Luckily, it was just a testing piece, so it wasn't much of a waste. ^^

Also, the cheaper the paint, the worse its coverage, due to the lack of pigment inside. You can't avoid multiple layers when painting with yellow or orange paints (those colors are the WORST). But it's always better to make a few layers with more expensive paint, than hundreds of layers with cheaper one. ^^ Saves a lot of time!

When it comes to my brushes, I'm kinda ashamed to admit that, in contrary to paints, I use the cheaper synthetic ones. I just find them much softer and easy to work with. I used lots of natural brushes back in the day, but they were wearing out as fast as all the others. So I'd rather buy a new pack of synthetics each month, than pay at least twice as much for the natural hair ones.
I found out that white synthetic brushes are a lot softer than any different color, like for example orange ones. I don't really know what's the difference - it's just how it is! :)

In the pictures you can also see a white, small make-up sponge, it's the thing I use when I'm making gradients on my sculptures. ^^

Anyway, lots of you are asking "But Arnne, how are you making this thin black lineart on your sculptures? :O" And I'm about to share my secret with you!

I...

Make my own brush just for this purpose! Gasp! :D
Well, it's not like I'm making them from scratch, no no. I found out that best brush for such a precise lines is hidden in... An eyeliner! I just buy one, take it out of the container, wash it underwater and connect it to a... Chopstick. I know, nobody expected that. But honestly, that's the best brush that I ever had. I'm not sure if this certain eyeliner is available outside of Poland, but I use the Lovely brand. As for chopsticks... Anything goes I guess. ;)

And now you know my biggest secret! Don't tell anyone! :D
