UPS and DOWNS of our Sailing Life- SV Delos Ep 182

Sometimes the boat drags anchor, you lose your dinghy, things break, and you miss your family.  But then you have fantastic islands and even better company to bring you back up! In this episode we explore a bit about both sides of this incredible lifestyle.

Really hope you enjoy!  Peace and love from Delos!  Brian, Karin, Brady, and Alex

UPS and DOWNS of our Sailing Life- SV Delos Ep 182

Comments

Hey Janne, thanks so much for sharing your time and support with us. The lows are what makes the highs so dang good, so we're glad to hear you liked the style on this one. Much love!

Sailing SV Delos

I've been binge watching these episodes since returning from a boat trip in the Finnish Archipelago, Estonian Western Islands and the Gulf of Riga, and am starting to get these mixed up ("did this thing I wanted to comment happen in this episode or the previous one"). But I have to say I admire your skill to keep the video flowing, to shape occurrences in daily life into story arcs. And episodes like this, with the ups and the downs, make for an interesting break from the traditional "first this, then that" style of storytelling. So thanks again, I enjoyed it a lot :)

Janne Peltonen

There's always the "cruising extra" added to everything you get for a boat... That said, the fancy case is often half the actual product.

Janne Peltonen

Welcome back to internet land Steve :) . Glad you got a chance to watch, and yes the niceness of people continues to surprise us everywhere we go :)

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah, we have just been waiting to get to a place where they can ship it to us! Hopefully soon :)

Sailing SV Delos

You guys ever thought about upgrading your anchor to a Rocna or Mantus? I used to have the same exact plow/CQR type anchor and dragged a few times on it, but once I got my Rocna, I have yet to ever drag, even in 45 knot gusts. Dont want to start an anchor war conversation, just putting that out there. :)

Jeremy Whittaker

Finally got to watch after getting wifi in son's new house; things go sideways on land too. Once again the negative masses are proved wrong as the locals anchored Maggie so she can be found by her owners. Random acts of decency renew my hope for us all. Enjoy!!

Steve Leker

I don't see much calling for landscaping onboard Delos. I am curious as to whether or not Kazaa's university degree in landscaping is totally a waste of time at this time or are there aspects of the education that are useful in your current adventures.

Beau Truong

Marta we will see you soon in Gotland!!! YIPPPEEE :)

Sailing SV Delos

Ha Ha nice lars :) Also sounds like it could be a town in the center of North Island NZ as well ha ha!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much for that Chris!

Sailing SV Delos

Hey Panagiotis! So good to hear from you, thanks so much for your comment and bringing a smile to our faces :) You know Brady flew back with the spare and it worked like a charm. Turns out it's just a pretty expensive potentiometer in a fancy case!

Sailing SV Delos

Hello Orlando! Lot's of our family around Florida

Sailing SV Delos

Really our pleasure Matthew!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Ray, just shows how sometimes you assume people are out to do you in, then they go and anchor your lost dinghy....

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Daniel, glad to hear it :)

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah Karin and I are just finishing the editing this week :) . It's a great one!

Sailing SV Delos

Hey thanks so much Johnny, I enjoy it as well :) Brian

Sailing SV Delos

What a great episode! So down to earth. Down to sea. :) Love your sharing Alex! <3 To be where you want to be is not always so easy.

Märta Syren

Nice one, y'all!

rodney weiner

Life is laid back fun. Enjoyed the video of Brazil where all problems seem minor...

Benjamin Franklin Hamilton

Ahhh nice to hear the Savi Fernandez Band in this one. Vintage Delos/Savi tune.

Tim T

Yeah I chuckled at Brian’s delivery of that joke.

Gordon Potter

leesir is so hot in the rain. i had some other comments, but lost them while watching her at the end. great episode, can't wait to see the great city through your lenses next time. be safe.

gregory olney

Just watched this truly authentic episode from the cockpit of 'Pauline' moored in Middelfart, Little Belt, Denmark. I know Brady will enjoy hearing there's a town by that name! :-)

Lars Bøcher

Loved this episode! Always a happy moment Fridays, when we realize we have a new Delos episode to watch!

Chris Burchhardt

There are no more words that can describe Delos and the crew... been following from the beginning, watched the entire series of videos over 5 times now... the amount of people inspired by you guys is countless, like Phillipe said you're changing lives... I really hope you keep this up for years and years to come. Also i'm an electronics engineer and pretty sure I can find you one of these sensors for a whole lot less than the assembly costs. usually these are hall effect sensors or optical rotary encoders... it looks pretty standard, if you want send me some photos/any details it has on it and i'll find you one to have a spare. (I know this was over 6 months ago and you probably have a new one by now... just for the future) I hope one day you guys make it to Greece... it'll be awesome to see you here...

Panagiotis Verras

Front gate failed. Estimated $25 million in damages. 4 brand new diesel electrics underwater along with all the other electricals and mechanicals. Gotta replace front gate before they can pump it out again to initiate repairs to the ship. Yeah, I think that qualifies as "pretty bad". Bad day for NASCO reputation, really bad day for the insurance company's wallet (maybe they have 'accident forgiveness').

William Gross

SOME HOW LOST MESSAge--we will try again --we flowing you all via viedo we live east of orlando , 40 miles. we love all!!!

michael

WE LOVE ALL

michael

Like @raylehman said "Challenged to find more superlatives!" Great stuff!

Peter Kane

another great one!!! its nice to see the struggles that a RTW sailor goes through in order to enjoy such beautiful places. thanks for showing us how beautiful Brazil is.

Matthew Jaroslawski

Hey Laurence, so glad you met up with Brady and Alex, Karin and I just got back to Sweden after deciding to jump on another boat and sail from Svalbard to Norway! Ha what an experience crossing the Barents Sea, can't wait to share! Brian

Sailing SV Delos

Yeah I know, complacency is the sailors worst enemy....

Sailing SV Delos

Oh no, shit that sounds actually pretty bad :( I can't even begin to fathom the work and expense that will incur. Any ideas what causes the failure? Brian

Sailing SV Delos

Challenged to find more superlatives. Another wonderful video . Thanks for showing and sharing with us more of the Brazilian vistas and how you deal with "boat" and "legal" stuff. Happy no damage to Maggie. :)

Ray Lehman

Very Cool Video, Thanks!

SV Trippin'

great ep - made my day and enjoyed every bit to my breakfast here in Sweden - many thanks for keeping them coming :) - be safe in Rio and fair winds !

Pierre Salomon

Another smile for me from y'all.

Daniel T Parker

My gosh if you guys liked São Paulo, imagine what is going to be the episode in Rio ! Safe sailing guys , always amazed to watch your videos getting better every time

Arnold, Clara, Luna and Noa

"We have been to 37 of the top 10 beaches in the world" Gold

Mike Murphy

One consistancy in the world is government paperwork

Dean Moore

Great video, btw, hold the cork and twist the bottle, you get way better leverage and control.

Stéphane O.

Entirely separate trip to U.S. but such a coincidence to meet Brady and Alex in S.F. this week--wonderful ambassadors for the Delos Project. Alex is a fantastic person, and after 8 years Brady just keeps improving with age... and Alex I guess.

Laurence Phillips

It's still Thursday!!!! Love it! I'll watch tonight after a few drinks in the cockpit.

Sail Loot

POP!! - who else saw that coming? Note to all: after you pull the wire off, it's a live grenade until you pull the fuse out.

Laurence Phillips

Your supposed to watch out for the smallest member of your family......FAIL !

Larry Sumner

Enjoy the DIY diagnostic and repair stuff. And what a good looking pup! Great episode. Thanks for sharing Delos.

Johnny Harrison

Your bad days are better than NASCO San Diego bad days. Dry dock failed last night and flooded. Brand new, nearly complete Navy ship inside still had access holes in hull and flooded to the waterline. Many manlifts, scafolding, and welders in the pit when it happened. Happened after hours, no one injured. But I still enjoyed watching Brady scrape the scrunge from under the sole. I think I'll watch that part again!!
