NOT What We Expected Out Here 😳 (Pacific Crossing Pt. 6 of 8) Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 421

Ahoy friends!  Welcome to part 6 of our Pacific Crossing, get ready for some wet n' wild action as we approach the equator.  We arrive to the doldrums, or the Interpropical Convergence Zone.  This is where the northeast and southeast trades converge, and its known for being mostly calm and windless...on my last Pacific Crossing we had to motor for a couple days straight to get through this part of the ocean, but this time we are FLYIN!  It worked out great for our speed and fuel consumption, but man did things get sporty!  Definitely not what you typically expect from this zone.

But we manage to make the most out of it and are able to laugh at ourselves as we navigate our rolly state of existence, and enjoy working our way through the massive pile of Wahoo that's got our fridges and freezers bursting at the seams 😂

Who here has done a Pacific Crossing?  Let us know in the comments how you did going through Doldrums :)

Sending lots of love and gratitude to everyone from a beautiful atoll in the South Pacific,

Brian, Kazza, & Sierra <3

NOT What We Expected Out Here 😳 (Pacific Crossing Pt. 6 of 8) Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 421

Comments

I've always loved the passage videos. Especially once you started having drone footage of Delos flying on the waves, surrounded by the ocean. She looks so much like she is exactly where she belongs.

Janne Peltonen

Sweet video love these long passages I think they make the most interesting ones!

SV Trippin'

Interesting, that's a great idea!

Sailing SV Delos

Good to see you! Sometimes when it's windy we use a blanket to catch the drone. Two of us hold a light blanket and fly in the midle. I haven' t had turbin damage. Before this I lost a dron! 😋 Have a good sail! Greg

Gergely Jónás

(18:58) "Peaceful sailing in the ocean"😂😂

Erdem Arican

Great episode!!! I was younger than Sierra (20 months) when I crossed the the Pacific, BUT I was with my family returning to the US from Japan and it was a large Navy transport ship. My Mom, Dad and two sisters had already traveled East to West via ship (and Hawaii) three years earlier and I was born in 1960 at Yokosuka Naval Hospital (my Dad at that time was a Commander in the Navy and was a chief officer, but had served on the Pacific in WWII as second command of a destroyer for 3 years). I wish I could remember!!! I did grow up as a Navy “brat” and my Dad taught me to sail and race.

Myra Slepoy

Maybe one day I will be a pollywog! LOL

Scott C. Wise

🤘 Excellent call!

Sailing SV Delos

Thank you! That's what I've been saying around here 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Aloha back at ya Lilly! So stoked you're enjoying the videos, maybe one day we will sail past your lanai!

Sailing SV Delos

Probably not a bad idea William

Sailing SV Delos

Great to know there are some more Shellbacks among us! And yep its definitely good to be on the shellback side of the initiation 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Good things come to those who wait!

Sailing SV Delos

She really is such a gem isn't she, and Sierra absolutely adores her 🫶

Sailing SV Delos

Do ittttttttt!

Sailing SV Delos

Poo safety is a top priority on board haha, so we gotta keep all the toilets with an optimal set up! Hahah, thanks so much for the well wishes Spencer!

Sailing SV Delos

Absolutely! Wishing you all the best on the hard and minimal repeat trips to home depot/chandlery 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Mark, happy to bring a little spark to your fridays!

Sailing SV Delos

Don't forget to put on the southern cross by CSN&Y while you are sailing for the Marquesas looking at the southern cross. Just making sure you have good tunes.

Brian&Christina

Brian you deserve a little hazard pay for all that drone catching! ;D

Colleen Balch

Aloha from Big I, been watching out for y'all from da lanai! Love your content!

Lilly Dietz

I'd be wearing gloves and maybe goggles when drone-catching.

William Domb

Shellback X 2 here. It’s always humbling crossing the equator. The sailors of old did it the hard way. I remember the doldrums, where as far as you could see, the ocean surface was unbroken. Just the slow undulation and crystal blue water forever and away. I can see where the sailors of old when caught in the doldrums could be so hot. The ocean cool and inviting. It would sing to you. Come to me. Come to my cool blue waters. And they would leap into the arms the Siren of the Sea. In crossing, I had lot of fun in the initiation. ‘Specially if you are the Shellback. Woe to you Pollywog!

Ray Norman

What? We have to wait for the Equator Crossing? Dang! Can't wait to see what happens to the Equator "Virgins". LOL

Scott C. Wise

Loving Hannah! 🥰

Obie and Laurie Alvarez

Man I hate being stuck here in Indiana working my life away! Need to plan my escape!

Michael Conway

Kazza, I seem to recall a video from years ago when Brady talked about putting a tiny bungie on the lid to the forward head for just that same reason. It's a rally weird thing to recall, but I've actually watched the entire series about 2.5 times. I know you are actually living now several weeks in the future of this. So, where ever you are and whoever is aboard, blessings of peace, safety and joy (and few post-crossing repairs).

Spencer Norby

Stark contrast to your previous crossing, Brian, "like a box of chocolates. Ya never know whatchya gonna get." Love it! Currently on the hard here in SF. Thinking of you all as we get dirty.

Atencio's

Love love love, Delos crew. Thanks for making every Friday a little brighter.
