Can’t Describe This Feeling…LAND After 19 Days At Sea 🤯 Sailing Vessel Delos Ep. 424

Hey hey friends!  It's Friday again and we've got a suuuuuper fun episode for you today.  After 19 days at sea, we FINALLY see (and smell 😂 ) LAND!  It was such a crazy feeling for all of us, and honestly one of our most special moments of this entire 13 year journey.  Long passages are such a rewarding experience, and that first sight of land wraps so many powerful emotions into one.  A lot of it is definitely "type 2 fun" meaning it's not necessarily fun in the moment (although we did have SO MUCH easy fun on the trip too!)...there can be a lot of challenges and discomfort involved, but the feeling of accomplishment, the memories, and the lessons learned make you look back on it with a special kind of fondness that can't come from doing something easy.

We hope you enjoy sharing in this beautiful moment with us.  What's the longest passage you've ever been on?  Or if you're not a sailor, have you had any other accomplishments or experiences in life that made you feel something similar?

Big hugs from all of us!

Brian, Kazza, & Sierra

Looks good :)

Janne Peltonen

Cheers Brian and Kaz! So glad you opened the bottle on your arrival in the South Pacific. All the best!

Mike B

Hey William! Oh yeah man totally! We’ve had our eyes on that for a while, since we sailed from Indonesia to Philippines last time around. We weren’t able to make it that far east on that trip, but this time we will find a way to make it happen. Brady and Alex did some diving there and said it was out of this world :)

Sailing SV Delos

Oh nice, that's a solid run for a lake mission, that's a big lake!

Sailing SV Delos

Luckily neither of us are big in to sports, otherwise Delos might feel REAL small for a few days 😂

Sailing SV Delos

I know 🥺 We have literally no idea what could possible be wrong with the video, we disputed it but with no luck. The annoying thing is that they don't even tell you what caused the video to get flagged. We are gonna upload another version for the public release on Friday with a few small changes and hope for the best🤞

Sailing SV Delos

I know right, what a crazy place to lay eyes on after 19 days of nothin' but the big blue!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Sean, so happy you enjoyed this one :)

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Jackie, happy we can provide you with some good entertainment 😁

Sailing SV Delos

LOVE hearing that we can make you smile 😁😁😁

Sailing SV Delos

We pretty much felt the same when we arrived! Thanks so much and glad you enjoyed this one Marisa :)

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Gergely!

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks so much Dan, really glad you enjoyed this one :)

Sailing SV Delos

Technically Kazza will finish hers in the Solomon Islands! She sailed some other places between New Zealand and there but she hopped on and off a bit while she was still studying

Sailing SV Delos

Thanks Anthony, and so stoked you got your sail bag, thats a perfect use for it :)

My longest sailing passage was a day-sail in Belize on a charter. But a few weekends ago I logged 80 miles or so in a single day run around Lake Lanier here in GA. That hurt!

Bruce Perry

Crazy moment, Sweden and the US Women’s teams taking it to the last moment! Glad at least some of the Delos Fam is celebrating.

Colleen Balch

FYI - Age restricted message

Nico - The Toad Tribe

Funny memories: we would hit land and everything was fuzzy: because your eyes do not see further than 100 feet or so for 3 months - it takes time to focus on long distance!

Michael Williams

My father (may he rest in peace) was at sea in the Pacific for 3 years during WWII (second in command of the destroyer Mansfield) and had one stint where his boat did not touch land for 18 months (supply ships would come to deliver food, gas, munitions, etc). He told me that getting on land after that period of time was so disorienting that he literally felt “land sick” and the ground moving under his feet.

Myra Slepoy

awesome, what a beautiful place you landed on!! Congrats

Garry Gill

This episode was magic. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful place and experience with us. <3

Sean Martin

Hay Guys look who joined and I just wanted to say congratulations on an amazing passage you guys get.def me entertained

Jackie Martin Light

Congratulations to everyone. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. Your videos always make me and Heather smile. Have a great day !

Brian Travis

That place is mind blowing! What a passage you guys! I’m in awe: congratulations 🍾🎊🎈

Marisa Conner

Beautifull place! Congratulations on the crossing!

Gergely Jónás

That was an absolutely beautifully filmed and edited episode. I was there with you for 20 minutes.

Dan Moss

Hello Delos, another great episode. Completely unrelated, I was recently looking at dive locations in the Pacific and was wondering if Chuuk Lagoon was on your possible itinerary. Lots of coral, and ww2 wrecks to dive on, and seems like a really nice lagoon to lay anchor in for a while. Thoughts?

William Houck

How far till Kazza circumnavigates?

James Good

Another great episode! Just got my new duffle bag for my snorkel gear thank you!!

Anthony Spezza

Fleet Ballistic Missile patrol in the Atlantic. Punching holes in the ocean. But we were "well compensated." lol

Michael Williams

Haha, that's awesome you're looking to get into sailing. We have a lot of friends that have found really cool crew opportunities on findacrew.net and crewbay.com that's a great way to start :)

That's so exciting! Hope you have an awesome debut, sounds like all your hard work is paying off :)

Sailing SV Delos

It's the simple things in life 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Just stopping into the comments section for my weekly dose of puns 😂

Sailing SV Delos

Absolutely! It was such an incredible destination the first time around, but seeing it through Sierra's eyes is just the best. And so excited to share it this time with some upgraded camera skills and story telling!

Sailing SV Delos

😮‍💨 OMG what was the passage?

Sailing SV Delos

The feeling is really something else, can't wait for you to experience it too!

Sailing SV Delos

89 days. But I didn't have cute shipmates as you do...

Michael Williams

Great video, it must be such an awesome feeling for you Brian to have experienced this before, knowing how beautiful it all is and getting to share it with Kazza, Nugget, and the rest of the crew. I bet the second lap is better than the first.

Michael Conway

Arrival! def. - A person who competes against you. LOL This is the much better version. : - )

Scott C. Wise

So beautiful there!, and apparently it smells good.

FreeWilly

It is a similar sentiment i can hear the starting horn. We've spent the good part of 2 Mos on Bristol 29 boat projects. Our first ever regatta (in our boat) is Tommorrow. I'm sure the memories will last long past the hardships endured.

Brian&Christina

I haven't been on any long passages because you guys haven't invited me! lol Aspiring sailor, hoping to find more experience soon. Can't wait to watch the video! I'm sure it will be great.

Segundo Armendariz

really enjoy seeing the excitement everyone had upon arrival. can't wait to get that experience ourselves.
